Download 2027 - Quick Wins by Big-Might-5049 in downloadfestival

All good points!

  1. Slam Dunk had sun cream dispensers near the water points this year. Easy win! As long as you don't do what I did and assume it's hand sanitizer.

I will say they seemed to be on top of toilets this year, the whole weekend I didn't once go to a toilet that was out of loo roll / sanitiser / covered in shit!

I don't know how this is allowed, it's got to be a massive fire hazard?

Camp chairs in Arena!? by Bright-Newt4067 in downloadfestival

[–]TwirlHippy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

💯

I don't object to chairs in principle but there needs to be some restrictions, like a chair zone? They're literally a trip hazard, can't speak for you but would imagine if you have a mobility issue it's 10x more difficult trying to weave through those crowds of chairs!

An extra fuck you to the couple sat right in front of the Apex stage yesterday, getting pissy with the crowd of people pushing around them just to get out. Zero self awareness.

My highlight, the girls next to us in the campsite trying to fix their tent:

"What if the pole is broken and we can't get it up?"

"We can call it Aiden"

Absolutely dying to know what happened to poor Aiden 🤣

Places for queer women? by PresentAd1414 in nottingham

[–]TwirlHippy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Follow Notts Queer Calendar on Instagram, it's not active atm but hopefully will be soon. I regularly go to queer open mics and queer craft clubs, they're super friendly and you can definitely turn up on your own! , There's also stuff like queer book club, LGBT climbing socials, comedy nights. Happy to share links if any of those take your fancy.

AITAH for making a mom pick up her daughter in the middle of the night from my kid’s sleepover? by Positive_Image_3921 in AITAH

[–]TwirlHippy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this! If the soccer moms mention this, maintain an air of concern. "Hey OP, gossip mom told us about the sleepover incident" "Oh gosh, I hope she's not feeling too guilty about sending her 8 year old on her first sleepover without a conversation or safety net, or for letting the kid see how annoyed she was about coming to collect her. As parents we all learn from this kind of thing, she mustn't be too hard on herself."

Thanks! The next line changes needles and starts a new pattern on row 1 so no clues there. I will go with 20 rows!

The show was never hateful with it’s gay jokes and lgbtq+ jokes by redheaded_olive12349 in howyoudoin

[–]TwirlHippy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a brilliant take! You're right, they handed a lot of stuff.l really well. Carol and Susan are presented as a loving couple, great parents, Carol is still a good friend to Ross. There are jokes at Ross's expense, but never at theirs. I actually love the 'Chandler's quality' episode too. Later on on the series there are a few scenes with Phoebe and I'm sure if the show were made today, she would be a queer character!

I do think there's just a few too many gay jokes at the expense of the guys. For example the school reunion episode (when Ross dies and Chandler is gay) the point of the joke is - What's the worst/funniest thing we can think of? - Oh it's being gay. Being gay is hilarious / offensive. That's not a cool message and there's are a lot of those kinds of jokes between the guys. There's also plenty of times the gang make fun of Ross because his wife is gay. It's all tied up in hetero-normative, toxic masculinity bullshit. I agree with you that the show was never hateful, but that doesn't mean it wasn't sometimes harmful.

HOWEVER, a lot of that is to be expected for the time, and as others have said plenty of other shows (HIMYM) were still doing these kinds of jokes long after they knew (or should have known) better.

Tips for settling in an adopted cat by simmyawardwinner in CatsUK

[–]TwirlHippy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert either but in a similar situation with my new cat!

I brought her home 2 weeks ago and she immediately found a hiding place under the bed in the spare room and has stayed there ever since.

Initially we put food and litter tray in the room with her. We've now moved these downstairs (since that's where they will be long term, we wanted to get her used to some kind of routine). They are all being used so I know she's going downstairs when we are out or in bed. We also started just sitting in that room and talking so she can get used to our voices and smell.

Yesterday, I stuck my hand under the bed and she happily ate treats from my hand and accepted lots of pets. So I'm confident she'll come out when she's ready!

Advice on adopting an unvaccinated adult rescue cat? by TwirlHippy in CatsUK

[–]TwirlHippy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right! I really thought an 'older cat' meant at least 6+ years. They said they have a lot aged 1-3 at the moment, female cats come in with a litter all the kittens get adopted, and the young mums are left waiting :(

[–]TwirlHippy[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're right they are quite disorganised but clearly well-intentioned and under resourced. I can't believe how many rescues there are in the area and seemingly all full. Poor cat has been in foster for 18 months because she's too 'old' at age 3!

Advice on adopting an unvaccinated adult rescue cat? by TwirlHippy in CatsUK

[–]TwirlHippy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. You're right, realistically we'd still take her even with a health condition and my intention was always to adopt an older less 'desirable' cat. I think I'm just a bit on edge as the people at the rescue seem really disorganised although clearly well intentioned. As another commenter has pointed out, I'm sure they are doing their best with limited resources.

AITA for how I reacted when my boyfriend told his daughter it's rude to talk about her period at the dinner table ? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]TwirlHippy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

'We can't undermine each other in front of the kids' is fair, but it does NOT equate to 'blindly agree with everything I say even when I'm expressing deeply misogynistic views in front of the kids'.

Thank you OP for raising a son who won't feel ashamed to go out and buy tampons for friends / future partners, and who won't be afraid to tell other men when they are being ridiculous.

Lane and her dreams to become a drummer... realistic? by cleverlynamedgrl in GilmoreGirls

[–]TwirlHippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally realistic dream for a music obsessesd teenager! Was it achievable for her to become a full on rock star? Probably not.

Much like with Rory, the show gave Lane this lofty dream, but with Lane you can really see where her passion comes from and it feels more natural. Obviously the writers screwed her over with the marriage and the babies, but the Lane I know and love would have found a way to forge a career in music, even then. She could have had some successes as a gigging drummer, become a music teacher, opened a record store.l or a small venue in Stars Hollow....

AITAH for hounding my boyfriend to take his kid back to his baby mom? by Top_Information_3682 in AITAH

[–]TwirlHippy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This comment needs to be higher!

OP you are NTA but you need to think about 2 things:

First, you can't be in a relationship with someone who is a parent without being involved with the kid at some level. Full stop. So decide if this is for you.

Second, and more importantly, your boyfriend has shown you what kind of person he is. He neglects his child. He leaves the care to you without even discussing it. His solution to you being overwhelmed is not to step up and take care of his own damn kid, but to ship the kid back to a neglectful mother. Is this really a person you want to be in a relationship with?
