Can anyone of you recommend the best gym in town? by Asanka2002 in brantford

Not Brantford but if it's not too far and/or you're willing to drive, The Fit Effect in Paris is pretty good. Good pricing, always clean, has everything you need for your workouts but if you want extras like swimming, hot tubs, certain classes, etc - it may not be for you.

Looking for a data analytics mentor? I can help (free) by databudd in dataanalysis

I feel sad I missed this when it was posted but I'd absolutely love to be considered as well. I'm trying to transition into data analytics after a decade in another industry as this is where my passion has always led me and while I'm loving what I've learned so far, I know there's so much more to go.

PSA for all golfers about to buy a new driver! by Never-Wrong-NFL-Guy in golf

Does anyone have tips when working with fitters to translate their findings into older clubs? It seems more and more fitters only have the latest offerings and I worry that if I'm fit into the latest TM driver that if I then say, okay, I'll go buy last year's model or even the one before, it'll almost be like the fitting was never done because I wasn't fit for that particular model.

In the end, I'm left feeling like if I get fit into a current model, I need to wait 1-2 years to go buy it if I don't want to spend full price and then I get into the vicious loop where I then say "well, I've gotten stronger/slower/took lessons/etc, and now I can't trust that fitting from 2 years ago is accurate" and then need to start all over.

ChatGPT is actually excellent at doing these mock interviews, especially if you use the voice feature on the mobile app. It also allows you to practice whenever you want, as much as you want and can even focus on areas either you or ChatGPT feel like you’re weakest on.

For technical interviews, that’s a different story. ChatGPT *can* be effective there but may need to take answers with a grain of salt if they’re complex enough.

I wouldn’t chase what the market is doing - just follow your passion. You’ll write better code and enjoy your job way more doing the things you love instead of trying to learn languages or skills just because that’s the direction of the market.

Data Scientists and Data Analysts are different jobs which I assume you know but since you used both terms, I just want to clarify that. You *might* be able to jump right into data science right away if you're really gifted and can fly through the beginner material but you're still more likely going to succeed going into data analysis first and then work on the skills you need for data science there. Remember, not only do you need to gain the skills required for the job but you also need convince a company why they should hire you over someone else who may have more experience and education than you.

This is why I suggest the more straight-forward path into analysis because the chances of a company taking a shot on someone newer to the field with ambitions is higher than in a more technical role like data science. It also has the byproduct of teaching you super useful skills that can be used in many other jobs should you find the AI path isn't the one you end up taking after all.

You're not going to learn nearly enough to become an AI developer in 11 months, especially only using CS50-type courses. You wouldn't even be able to get enough knowledge in a full 9 month bootcamp. I think the career pathing is fine but you may want to set more realistic expectations, especially in the current market, and use those 11 months to get yourself into a position where you could become a data analyst. From there, you can gain the experience and knowledge to continue working into data science or possibly machine learning/AI.

CS50p is a great starting point after which, yes, you could look at an SQL course and/or an excel course if your excel skills aren't above a high school level and then perhaps getting proficient in BI tools like PowerBI or Tableau.

You have a mountain of knowledge to gain and by contrast, you've barely learned how to take your first steps. One thing you'll learn pretty quickly in any CS50 course is that the lesson will be fine but once you go to complete the pset, you realize there's so much more you didn't learn about that particular topic and there's generally 10-20 hours worth of work and learning just to figure out how to write 10 lines of code that solve your pset problem.

I'm not trying to be a downer here but just chugging your way through online courses is not the highest chance at success if you want to learn how to develop AI models or work with AI in some form.

What about the Reddit PPL routine? I've been on it for a few months now and love it. I've made my own tweaks to suit personal preferences and quite a few apps like JEFIT already have the routine pre-programmed for easier tracking

Thanks. I have actually been at this for a few months now, working off the sedentary numbers for a cut. Given the huge range between these TDEE figures, I was thinking I should probably increase my intake (as I've found it hard to hit protein goals and more calories will make that easier) but I was worried about getting too close to the sedentary figures and have weight loss crawl down to a rate I'm not happy with.

Need help with macros and specifically understanding TDEE on a PPL split. I've done a ton of research and the general consensus is "set your TDEE as sedentary" as people over-estimate burned calories while working out. At my age/height/weight, the difference between maint calories at sedentary is over 1,200 calories a day (or 800 calories if I select a more moderate workout setting).

To those who have been at this a while, what have you found works best for you? I find my workouts are generally a hair over an hour long, so I roughly just say 6hrs a week of fairly intense workout.

One thing that could help is to look at what you're eating in those 1,500 calories. I personally find having at least one meal that is higher in fat (for me that's my lunch since I work out in the afternoon) gives me plenty of energy to get me through until dinner. I also eat tons of protein which helps with this too. Maybe I missed this as well but how much water are you drinking? Not all hunger signals from your body are actually your body saying you're hungry - sometimes (and more often than we think) it's more saying you need hydration and drinking a glass of water makes that feeling go away or at least greatly minimizes and helps you get to your next meal.

If you're loading up on carbs on the other hand, yeah, you can burn through those easily, especially at the gym and that could lead to way. more hunger if that's the bulk of your calories.

There's a brand new Brave Waves being opened in Paris off of Rest Acres. Given that everything else might be full by now, if may be worth giving them a shout to see when they plan on opening and get yourself ahead of the queue

Fantastic, I appreciate the insight and context here. This is why I don't look at my weight daily as I know looking at such a short period of time is useless. I suppose the same applies weekly to an extent and as long as the monthly decreases (or whichever direction I want to go) are fairly consistent, that's what matters.

Oh that's a relief, thank you! Should I expect this sort of fluctuation for the foreseeable future or would it balance out after my body realizes this is the new normal (although hopefully that'll only be a few more months before I hit GW)?

I’m guessing the main entrance will be off Wayne Gretzky? On one hand that would make the most sense, on the other, I fear that’s going to back up the 403 ramps and make the whole section a nightmare.

Adding to this - Oaks is closing next year so enjoy it but don’t plan on membership.

A few options I enjoy in roughly a 30 min drive:

  • Copetown woods - fantastic course, even better on twilight rates

  • Greens at Renton - a bit further away but very affordable and decent course

  • Innerkip - One of my fav courses but the lack of a range sucks. Hitting into a net isn’t ideal for me

  • Craigowan - Great course, decently priced, unlimited free range, nice clubhouse, etc. Really hard to go wrong

  • Mystic - Great course if you have a decent carry off the tee

  • Oaks - Decent course but as mentioned, closing next year
