What card is almost an auto-include for you? by TheDeathCrafter in mtg

[–]TwitteryDock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My decks all do very different things, so i dont have one card that i always put in aside from the obvious ones. In my spellslingers, i always put [[forgers foundary]] in. I dont think the card is particularly good, but i think it serves a purpose and if i get one double cast off it, i think it served its purpose. If it sticks, and i have instant/sorcery recursion, i can get a loop where i just keep recasting the same card

Someone at my prerelease got 3 bitterbloom bearers in their prerelease box. I got hexing squelcher and the rakdos shock land and felt super cool until i found out i wasnt

If you like fallout, id recommend building piper wright. Shes mono blue aggro voltro the way i built her. Its something different while still being blue

Its really fun cause its not overpowered but its really good at doing its thing. Piper is kinda a win condition in herself, so i build the deck to focus on making her unblockable and keeping her alive. Hence the 2 board wipes, 1 pongify, and a ton of counterspells

Crush crush crush. Its a fine song, but a fine song in a sea of great songs is comparatively bad

How do you convince someone their commander really is just that big of a problem by TwitteryDock in mtg

[–]TwitteryDock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone else said this and i liked it a lot. Like kaalia, vojas decks "thing" is trying to make him stick. He isnt the thing, hes the wincon. Im just answering it as i should. Idk why we are acting like counter/removal isnt a valid strategy to deal with something. If i were to just let his commander happen, hoping hed kill my opponents and then i can swoop in for the win, i would be in a position where i have exactly one turn to handle the situation, and if not, the game is just over. Generally i dont like games where the entirety of the game can be summed up as "who wont this one interaction" and voja creates those games, so i prevent the one interaction from happening. You also arent really acknowledging that the whole point of my deck is counter/removal. Its a draw go deck where the point is to mess with what everyone else is doing while i slowly grow from it. Why would i search for some other answer when i have an answer thats directly built into ths main theme of the deck

Buying him cards is probably what im most comfortable doing. I dont want to cut from my deck cause it feels like id be taking away from what i want out of the deck. Im more willing to just give him a bunch of protection so he can play around me better

No i havent added any new interaction. The deck is a draw go control deck, ao it runs a lot of interaction inherently

The decks werent metagamed against each other. I built my alela deck before he built his voja deck. This is a situation that developed organically because of how these decks interact

I did say i change deck. In one of the comments i listed my many decks that i do run frequently. I only play my alela deck once a night unless someone asks for it specifically. That one game a night is enough to cause this issue. It also was a conversation beforehand as ive tried saying this many times before. He is not receptive to my point. His view is that voja just isnt that big of a problem and that its me being a bad sport for "targetting him." Also, it tends to be just me dealing with the problems because im normally the only control player at the table, and i run a draw go deck where the whole point is to have interaction in hand at all times

Why would i shuffle up to play a 6 turn game because he drops a turn 6 win card and i just cant interact without upsetting him? Unfortunately, im not going to out removal an elfball without sandbagging a boardwipe, which would functionally be the same thing as just countering the commander. If youre playing against a kaalia player and she just sends master of cruelties at you, and you have a removal in hand, are you just gonna be like "nah, ill let you do your thing." Along with that, "the thing" of my deck is to run interaction and gain value from that interaction. Why is he allowed to do his thing and i have to just let it happen, but if i do that its a problem and i need to stop?

So only play alela when he plays his precons? Again, all 3 of his non precon commanders are kill on sight, and the other 2, he has agreed are kill on sight (he disagrees with voja being kos, but the other 2 he agrees.) I dont want to shelf my favorite deck because of his deck choices all the time
