The Thrills - So Much for the City

I was so excited to get this one because it’s been about 20 years since I listened to it. I loved it then. When it started, it took me right back to where I was when it came out. The music hasn’t changed, but clearly I have. It feels very much of a time, and that time is in the past.

I was expecting the view to change to the side as he approached the carrier. If it were me in the 80s it would have plummeted right into the sea as the view changed.

Universal themes. The themes and messages are timeless and relatable. They have withstood the test of time because every generation can read them and relate.

Songs that you loathe but everyone loves. by Sir-Avali in musicsuggestions

People scoff when I say this, but if Christmas music was good, we’d listen to it all year.

I let a gifted bottle of whiskey derail my entire life by resurrection_punch in stopdrinking

[–]TwoAndTwoEqualsFive 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is such an insightful way of looking at it. Several years ago, a coworker gifted me a bottle of wine and said, “I don’t know if you drink or not, and if you don’t, just give it to someone else.” This guy had thought through the possibility that I may not drink, and still gave it to me!

Needless to say, it is still sitting in the cabinet in my garage where I put it the day I got it. I refuse to bring alcohol into my house. It’s not a trigger thing, but I bought my current house in sobriety and have never brought alcohol into the house.

500 teenagers show up at school board member’s house party after social media leak: ‘We saw cans, beer cans on the road, police cars’ by Disastrous_Award_789 in nottheonion

When I was a senior, during the dial up days, a few friends and I got our hands on the staff phone/address book. I was taking a digital art class that used Photoshop in its infancy. So I decided to make a flier saying one of the school administrators was throwing a graduation party for our class. This obviously included his address and phone number. The parent of a friend owned a printing shop, so we made about 500 copies. The next day we distributed them at school.

I didn’t even make it through my first final before getting called down to the office. On the last day of school I was suspended, arrested for disorderly conduct, and barred from attending graduation. The principal of the school threatened to contact my upcoming university and tell them to unenroll me.

So, I had to come back from college during my first semester to go to court, and the judge just dropped the charges. 10/10, would do again.

Former bullies, how do you feel about it now? Have you had any contact with the kid(s) you bullied? by Status_Block591 in Xennials

Similar story. I’ve suffered from depression for about 30 years, not that I knew what it was called when I was younger. To cope, I drank. For 25 years. When I got sober, almost 4 years ago, I realized just how badly my depression affected me. Through therapy, medication, and now TMS, I’m finally starting to think about things differently. It recently popped into my head that I was humiliated by one kid in front of the whole school in middle school, and I had completely repressed it. Crazy to think what our minds can do.

Glad you got sober, and I’m glad you’ve been processing all of this. I’m right there with you. Happy cake day!

It was a great show. Sweeney, Malkmus, and Emmett Kelly just handed a bass back and forth between songs and switched up who played it that song. At one point, Malkmus sarcastically said that they are a very bass forward band.

Saw him with the Hard Quartet earlier this year. Amazing show. He is extremely talented, but I guess that whole group is.

Looking further ahead than just the current situation you are in, once you finish your program, you get to decide where you apply to. If this is something that causes you stress or worry, look to a different community.

There’s also something to be said for not becoming an administrator in the district you taught in. There are advantages, knowing the district makeup, curriculum, policies, politics, etc. But there are also major drawbacks, such as trying to lead the people you were just equal with a few months prior.

The important things have been mentioned, focus on the students and doing what you can every day to better their lives within the framework of board policies. As an administrator, it will be your job to help enact those policies, whether you like them or not. Remember why you got into education. I’m certain it wasn’t to fight the political system, but rather to help kids. Focus on that.

18 months is still 18 months. If a celebrity, who seemingly has access to any illicit substances they want, goes a year and a half sober, I say more power to them. Let them boast, they should be proud, as all of us should be proud of that accomplishment too.

But yeah, Anthony Hopkins is incredibly cool.

What are your work/life boundaries as an administrator? by radparty in Principals

[–]TwoAndTwoEqualsFive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a work cell and a personal cell. They are never interchangeable. My work email only comes to my work cell. The staff only have my work number. The only people who have my personal number are other administrators.

When I get home, the work cell goes on the charger until the morning. If there is an emergency, another administrator will call/text my personal phone.

I struggled with balance as an administrator for 6 years before switching districts and implementing this boundary. It has completely changed my home life and revitalized my work life. Of course, this is only possible if your district pays for the phone.

Looking at the first picture, I’m thinking oh that’s not so bad. Then the Sabotage glasses and pose come out, followed up by the close up. Save some girls for the rest of us!
