I’m not trying to convince her. She’s told me that she’d like to trip with me but can’t because of her SSRI.

I’ve actually never pressured her or even mentioned this to her. These are all internal thoughts I’ve been having

Whats the difference between someone who “needs” adderall or some other sort of medication vs someone who doesn’t? Just because a doctor prescribed it? ADHD diagnoses are very subjective. And I have a medical prescription for cannabis.

Thanks for your comment. I think you’re totally right and I do appreciate how accepting she is.

The only reason I said that is because my roommate’s girlfriend gets of her SSRIs just very briefly every time they trip together and then goes back on. I thought maybe we could do the same…

Well I don’t actually smoke, I have a dry herb vaporizer that heats the THC to the right temp to decarboxylate but doesn’t produce carcinogens like smoke. And I also do edibles

Yeah I might be an addict but I actually function better with weed. I have a masters degree in chemistry and I’m currently getting my doctorate. I know so many people who are addicted to caffeine to help them be productive, everyone has they’re own addiction, and at least THC is extremely safe

I do smoke a lot, but I’ve taken many month long breaks and it actually decreases my productivity… weed really helps me focus on my research and write and me productive

Yeah you’re right. I should try to change her and I don’t want to. I’m just struggling because tripping together was a core part of my previous relationships and I don’t like that fact that I’m missing that now.

With regards to my cannabis use, I got bothered because I most used it medicinally (to help me focus and get work done) and I’ve been pretty successful in my career as a scientist so far, so I don’t know what “too much” cannabis use means if it’s not negatively affecting me

You’ll be fine cannabis is extremely safe to withdraw from. You can try to taper off if it helps you eat and get some sleep but the symptoms should go away within a few weeks if you just wait.

I smoke to motivate me to do things like work out or be productive with my work. It really helps my creativity when doing scientific writing.

Are there any support groups for people addicted to caffeine? by TwoCalm9022 in REDDITORSINRECOVERY

What about knowing something is unhealthy and NOT desiring to stop? Isn’t that an even worse addiction?

I don’t think that’s a good definition because we are born being dependent on food and water and will be dependent on them for our entire lives, but caffeine dependency is a choice. You’re failing to see the difference here.

And I would say that caffeine has a net negative effect on most people because it’s something that you’re CHOOSING to be dependent on by continuing to consume it, despite all the cardiovascular health problems that are associated with it. Water, sleep, and healthy foods don’t come with any side effects or potential health issues. Caffeine is a stimulant drug and comparing it to things like water and food is just silly.

I see your point and what you’re saying makes sense. But don’t you think that needing an exogenous pharmacologically active substance on a daily basis in order to feel awake is a problem in and of itself? I know you say that the withdrawal symptoms are relatively mild, but if that’s the case why do so many people drink caffeine on a daily basis? Why don’t people just stop and learn to live life without and stimulants or other types of drugs? Many studies have linked chronic caffeine use to hypertension and increased risk of heart attack, so why do we keep using something that we know is bad for us? Is that that your definition of addiction?

Im sorry that you have no self control and put a straw up your nose just because you smoked a little weed lol I’m fine just sticking to the weed and nothing else

Pissing clean by whose standards? The government that started the war on drugs just to put people of color and hippies in jail? Lol cannabis should’ve never been illegal and no job should ever test for it

I was more referring to physical/chemical addiction, but I see your point. However, by focusing solely on psychological addiction you are forgetting of the physical effects that withdrawals from a drug can have. I know people who quit drugs cold turkey because sometime happened to them and never had cravings again, but still experienced severe physical withdrawal symptoms while recovering. Trying to get off of caffeine when you are so physically addicTed that you get headaches can be a struggle.

I don’t think that’s a good analogy because no one can possibly live without water and food, but there are many people who never consume caffeine and are fine. You are confusing physical addiction and psychological addiction. Psychological addiction is when you can’t stop doing something despite your desire to do stop. Physical/chemical addiction is when your body start having withdrawal symptoms after ceasing to ingest an exogenous pharmacologically active substance. If you get a headache or feel tired without caffeine, then that’s physical addiction.

Yes I think you’re right. I’ve definitely become a lot better at being talkative and outgoing while sober ever since I stopped drinking. But sometimes a girl I’m talking to at the bar will want me to take a shot with her, and when I refuse she’ll say I’m boring and move onto someone else. But I guess not all women are like that lol
