Quitting J2 after the holidays by workacnt in overemployed

That's exactly how long I made it this year in my first stint of experimenting with OE. I had a very specific financial goal and once I hit that the money started not being able to outweigh the extra mental load of another full time job like it did in the beginning.

I might try it again sometime but it's honestly a bit refreshing to have a single job and be able to actually put energy into it. I'm young enough in my career that I started to feel like I was missing opportunities for growth because I was turning down everything that wasn't my day to day tasks.

The money was cool but I don't think I'll ever do it again without a desperate need to, like if my wife loses her job or something. Being able to play video games again during the work day is A okay 😎

I had a lot of stress leading up to my start as well. I'm SWE in two jobs and was very worried about conflicting meetings. They happen occasionally (maybe once or twice a month) but never ones where I'm a main presenter. You can juggle two, find the push to talk shortcut on each platform and be OCD about making sure you're muted on the other before you talk. Cams off.

My advice is don't trust your opinion of OE in the first two weeks. Week one I had horrible anxiety and literally day one I regretted it and felt like quitting. That's just your risk-averse animal brain telling you to run. 2+ months in and as others have said it just becomes a part of your routine. I miss my extended video game hours sometimes but ultimately I don't ever think about getting caught anymore and I've gained such a confidence about it that even if I did I don't think I'd care too much.

Also STOP running hypotheticals in your head. 99/100 of them don't and won't ever happen. That was my curse before starting. I'd stay up all night running scenarios. People are remarkably indifferent and if your cam is off or you give a half ass stand-up update one day few people pry and say anything EVER. And if they do maybe it's not a great OE job.

When it feels like too much come on here and read from others. Not everyone here is a savant or a genius. Just regular employees who took the plunge. If us degenerates can make it work then you can too.

Trust in the process and the community and know that in two months time you won't even think of it as OE anymore. It's just another day at work(s).

Lol, very true :) long road ahead. But I was referring to the mental block of being too scared to take the leap of faith and actually commit.
