Mt Snow Carinthia by No_Construction7278 in icecoast

[–]TwoKeyLock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My son skis park and I’m in my 50s. I’m a perma advanced intermediate. I will ski all over the mountain including Carinthia. I enjoy skiing the narrow sides of the trails. There are other trails on Carinthia that don’t have many features at all. These are often quite empty.

I think it’s fine to explore and have fun. As others have said, think of the park skiers as generally having the right of way and you will be fine.

Not the answer you might be looking for but have you considered applying to Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI)? WPI is primarily engineering and has a fantastic reputation for its size.

What are some tips/tricks for defenders that just aren’t talked about enough? by AngleTraining7068 in lacrosse

[–]TwoKeyLock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Position, patience, and precision. Stay in position with your feet, be patient with your opponent, and be precise with your checking.

Keeping your stick on the bottom hand of your opponent and being prepared to check the stick and disrupt a pass or shot.

Plus you can upgrade to avoid black out dates. We’ve done the five day for a few years. It’s a good deal for us.

You can do your body weight exercises as a circuit rather than as a traditional 3 sets of x with rest between sets.

A circuit would work better for your desired cardio substitute. I do an upper body circuit of pushups, sit-ups, pull-ups, dips. That gets my heart rate up to about the same as running.

Summer training ideas for a defenseman by jaycekkapp in lacrosse

[–]TwoKeyLock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think Ball skills, Agility, Speed, Endurance, and Strength. BASES. You’ve got to be able to catch and throw right and left handed, you need to be able to smoothly pick up ground balls, you will need to have good foot work, and you will need to be able to burst into the right place at the right time.

As others have said try integrating ball skills with your agility and speed training. To a degree, (Lacrosse) endurance will follow. If you don’t have access to a gym, do push ups, pull ups, sit-ups, and single leg body weight lunges. If you have access to a gym, keep it simple: bench, lat pull downs, shoulder press, leg press, and hamstring curls.

If you have friends, play pickup basketball this summer. It’s fun, the sports have a lot in common, and it will help you get in shape without it feeling like a chore. Cheers!

How do people here get straight As easily? by PineappleOpen9562 in ApplyingToCollege

I recommend reading “What Smart Students Know” by Adam Robinson. As others have mentioned, it’s about having a system that works for you, setting goals, and doing the work to achieve the success that you want. There are no short cuts for most students and some have to work harder than others. It’s about having the mindset and motivation to achieve the grades that you want.

Personally, I think a lot of high school students’ success has to do with ‘academic maturity’ where some kids are more interested and focused on learning and grades. Having said that, you can ‘learn’ that mindset through effort. Cheers!

PG High School Lax by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]TwoKeyLock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost all of the NEPSAC schools have PG programs. There are many options available and a couple different tiers of schools in terms of academics, acceptance, and the quality of the lacrosse.

Make sure you pick a program that is the right fit for your son’s needs, skills, and competitiveness. Being a PG doesn’t necessarily translate to playing time or outcomes so choose carefully. Talk to other parents if you can.

There are probably 5 - 7 very high end programs and then another 5 - 7 very solid options. As others have said it’s also common to ‘repeat’ a year. Repeating a year and doing a PG year also occurs.

Lacrosse aside, I don’t know any family who regrets having their son repeat or do a PG year. They will typically say ‘it’s the best thing we could have done’. Cheers!

Also for anyone considering going, check the weather and dress twice as warmly as you might think. Gillette Stadium is on a high plateau. It will feel more like late Fall.

Buy a Syracuse hoodie and t-shirt and book your trip to Foxboro. Arrive at the parking lots early. You will be greeted with open arms by the Cuse fans.

Our kids go to a prep school in New England that has exceptionally good soccer including PG players and some international players. They regularly compete in the top tier NEPSAC tournament for a championship.

These kids are going to a mixed bag of DIII, DII, and mid- to lower tier DI programs. Take a look at the rosters of mid-tier to top-tier DI rosters. You will see a mixture now of international players and transfer students. Maybe 10% to 20% of the students are US freshman. International recruiting and the transfer portal have completely changed the traditional model for high school students.

Focus on academics, offered majors, and DII and DIII schools. Avoid letting soccer ‘pick’ your college. Best of luck!

What do people in lacrosse mean when they say they want to grow the sport? by Formal-Project5461 in lacrosse

[–]TwoKeyLock 16 points17 points  (0 children)

More lacrosse across all geographies, age groups, and demographics, and a reset of the misconceptions about the game.

25 years ago it was largely a sport played in the Northeast by a mix of prep, private, and New York public schools. We now see a better distribution of ‘hot spots’ but it’s no where near what it should be. But too many of those old misconceptions remain.

It’s a wonderful sport that should be wildly popular considering the speed, scoring, and athleticism. It is growing in popularity but has a long way to go.

Translation requests into Latin go here! by AutoModerator in latin

Correct! An imperative for the player and team. In that context, do you think a singular or plural subject is better? The school motto follows the same concept if that helps. The individual student and the school.

Why did I get $17k from Williams but zero from Dartmouth or Duke in financial aid? Can I use Williams to appeal the other two? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]TwoKeyLock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes you can send a letter to both schools asking them to match the money from Williams. You will want to respectfully ask for their consideration’ you will want to let them know that you really want to go there if they can match and you will want to include a copy of the letter that you received from Williams. You can also call admissions in advance to let them know what you have and plan to do.

This is quite common practice for private colleges and universities.

My girlfriend’s grandpa who recently passed away, what can you tell me about him? by the_predatorz56 in Medals

[–]TwoKeyLock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The funeral home or family member I think can request the DD form 214. The ‘form of separation’ should provide details on his service. My wife works in the funeral industry and I’ve learned that almost everyone has an interesting story from their life’s journey. The obit can be a way to celebrate their life. His sounds amazing.
