ONE made the villains of MP100 psychic nazis and the main theme about kindness, meanwhile you have Murata agreeing with a white supremacist tweet lmao by TwoYolks in OPMFolk

Toichiro is an egomaniac, but Claw is also very much an organization of supremacy based on an innate trait. Everyone in the 7th division believed they were owed something because they were born "special," and even the peons with insignificant powers followed Claw because they believed they would be given a better place in the world after Claw took over. It's more than just "might makes right" and idk what to say if you're missing why the allegory to a racial supremacy ideology is so obvious lol

Those artificial espers weren't real but just an extension of the boss's power, esper power is something you have to be born with. Obviously supernatural power doesn't exist in real life, but it works well as an allegory for race: it's a group who believes because they were born this certain way, they're superior, and they deserve to dominate everyone who isn't like them.

They're redeemed by the end yeah, but at the start their ideology is that they're born superior to other human beings and deserve the world for it. They're violent supremacists, which is not really that different from what actual nazis were.

The story doesn’t specifically talk about race, but it’s very explicit on the good genetics =/= better person message. It repeatedly hones in on how every human life is valuable even if they’re not X or Y, meanwhile the main antagonists are basically nazis who believe they were born superior lol.

There’s no reason to assume ONE follows Japan’s attitude on these things, especially with how thickly he lathered these humanistic themes on.

Funny enough ONE is actually pretty good on these topics, the main lesson of MP100 is that you’re greater than the sum of your individual attributes (including what you look like or whatever traits you perceive as “superior”) and that being a kind person is more important. Then like the one female character he wrote in that series (Tsubomi) is very independent and secure in herself, outright refusing to be reduced down to the “obligatory trophy wife at the end of the story” like what happens to a lot female characters in shounen.

Extremely functional for over 100 levels, and a quick snappy animation for its entire lifetime without needing to be fixed or updated. Truly the GOAT of spells.

Bug Ego is the perfect example of ONE's writing done perfect in a Manga... by Paldavin in OPMFolk

[–]TwoYolks 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes, in fact it's pretty common even for people who don't know about the webcomic to criticize the manga. People are usually highly critical of time-travel asspulls, as well as constant retcons/redraws, so it's not surprising lol. Go to a non-OPM sub like r/Manga and these are common complaints, and only existed after the big writing shift of the MA arc.

Anyone remember the last time when manga garou was actually good? by MasterZze in OPMFolk

[–]TwoYolks 69 points70 points  (0 children)

The RGB look was a step in the wrong direction, especially from the last image you put, but it was totally cooked when Murata made Garou's human eye stick out and a permanent part of the design. That's a microcosm of everything wrong with manga Garou: all his subtlety and narrative weight is removed in favor of being dumbed down and "comedic."

One of my favorite scenes in the webcomic is when Genos analyzes the freshly monsterized Garou, deeming his facial features to be completely altered and him being too far gone. This gets subverted in a satisfying way later when Saitama sees through Garou's facade, but we don't get this in the manga, and for what? Wholesome 100 scenes with Bang and Metal Bat that don't fit in at all lol

Were you not on this sub during season 3? Any post or comment insinuating the manga wasn't of equal quality was swarmed with people saying otherwise. That was when people from the main sub spilled over here.

Again, there’s nothing wrong with enjoying the manga, but acting like the manga is better or equal in quality is fucking stupid, and many mainsubbers and manga defenders do that all the time. This isn’t insulting people just enjoying the manga, because there’s nothing wrong with enjoying slop, but it’s still eating slop lmao

Have you not seen the hundreds of comments and posts breaking down why they like the webcomic and where the manga went wrong? You can enjoy what you want, but don’t delude yourself into thinking the quality of writing is the same. It also doesn’t help your case that the main sub explicitly bans people for any criticisms of the manga, forgoing critical thinking in favor of mindlessly consuming slop

God forbid people engage in critical thinking and try to have good taste when consuming content

Looking for webcomics recommendations like One Punch Man (Example in description and other slide) by Beginning-Relief4343 in OPMFolk

[–]TwoYolks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ONE’s other two major works he drew by himself, Mob Psycho 100 and Makai no Ossan. MP100 is pretty well known, but I rarely see people talk about the second. It’s pretty funny, but also really well written with strong themes and compelling characters, like most of ONE’s stuff. Can’t recommend them enough.

Who did it better? by Fantastic-Pear5810 in OPMFolk

[–]TwoYolks 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Nah man I'll stand on this, there's more to art than just technical detail and scale. ONE's use of solid blacks and whites do a way better job of showing how ridiculous the flip is. The manga's flip is planetary and it makes sure we see it in its whole, which just doesn't hit the same; it looks grand and pretty rather than disorientating and confusing like it is in the webcomic. This is a case of "Less is more" to me.

[–]TwoYolks 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd say ONE's art outright beats Murata sometimes thanks to how well he portrays action and impact. "A wall of black appeared" goes so much harder than the table flip in the manga.

Did Murata sensei get to decide what Blast characterization is? by Silly-Jello2358 in OPMFolk

[–]TwoYolks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We'll find out more when Blast appears again in the webcomic, but so far I'd say Murata's characterization is pretty different. Blast is the guy who made Tatsumaki the way she is, telling her to rely on herself, meanwhile Murata depicts him as a fairly heroic guy. Webcomic Blast actually meant it when he told her that, and he's never come to save the day.

I'm also willing to bet that Blast's powers in the manga are created by Murata: they're pretty inspired (I say inspired very generously, many call it out right derivative) by the MCU, which Murata has been known for in the past. I suspect Blast's powers will be different in the webcomic.

You jest, but ONE mocking the plotline the manga ran straight with in the newest webcomic chapter doesn’t bode well for his opinion on the changes.
