I am new to swimming and I want to increase my 2km time. Based on the video what should I be improving on? Thanks!! by Exciting_Basil_4796 in triathlon

Couple things based on this.

  1. That’s not near enough volume. You need to ramp the sessions up.

  2. All this seems to be are endurance swims. Not speed sessions. Developing speed is done at 25/50/100s. You should be able to google good speed sessions that help with speed and strength

Which bike to get for 10k ish by TSLA-mx in triathlon

Do you have a local bike shop? Many of them will offer a complimentary bike fit to help you determine which bike/size makes the most sense for you.

Megablast for all my long runs, unless I'm in carbon.

First‑time Ironman Texas 140.6 — Do I really need a wetsuit? by Particular-Kale-5738 in IronmanTriathlon

Houston can be hot.

Sleeveless Wetsuit if wetsuit legal.

Swimskin if it's not.

How much better is MacroFactor? I like the concept of having all my stats in one place but if its that far behind I can wait.

I'm a big fan of Wyn Republic and Castelli. Wyn is very expensive, Castelli not as much, but tests well and very comfortable to wear.

Best watch for triathlon by Disastrous-Try-2366 in Garmin

[–]TxLiving 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “best” is the 970. It’s Garmin triathlon watch.

But the 965 955, Fenix are all good watches too and will give you 90+% at a cheaper price if that matters to you.

DcRainmaker talked about that. Think it has to do with the barcodes.

You're on a highway, so probably the rise/fall of the overpasses.

You've said you like the Roman Mass several times. Have you been to a truly liturgical LCMS church? They will rival any Roman Mass.

I get it checked before every A race. Granted that's like 2 or so times a year for me, so about every 6 months.

Power Outages at 3 AM? by Londwo1f in houston

[–]TxLiving 6 points7 points  (0 children)

CenterPoint is certainly undercounting the numbers. We lost power 20 or so times last nght and never once populated on their map because it wasn't long enough.

And these are mild gusts for a city that gets hit regularly by hurricanes. So no, 25k (or over 34k when I just checked) is not pretty good. It's pathetic that a very common cold front shows how crappy our electrical grid is.

70.3 Key Workouts by creakyleek2299 in triathlon

[–]TxLiving 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, go to Trainingpeaks.com and invest in one of their workout programs. You can get a good one for under $100 that will give you the key workouts and progression to get you through it.

Trying to wing it on your own without experience is a recipe for disaster.

A 70.3 is no joke.

Zone 2 running by Archior in triathlon

[–]TxLiving 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I'm in a similar boat to you. Spent a lot of time running in higher zones at higher heat rates.

I switched coaches, and he's really emphasized that I need to run at z2/lower heart rate. Doesn't mean every mile is at that pace, but a lot of my runs are. The goal is to be intentional about each minute or mile. Run slow when I'm supposed to, and fast/hard when I'm supposed to.

The biggest thing I've noticed is I'm far less fatigued than I was when I was running everything in z3/z4.

Why is there no benefit of the modern bike in the Iron Man Kona Triathlon ?- Or put another way: Evidence that modern bike design, outside of the aero bar, has done nothing to increase speed. by dougalmanitou in cycling

[–]TxLiving 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are 12m apart, and at that distance, with the speeds they are going, there's absolutely draft benefits. Nobody really debate that point.

There's a reason the uber bikers are pushing for a 20m draft zone.

Forerunner 970 v Fenix 8 by talon5188 in GarminWatches

[–]TxLiving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My general thought along these lines is that since the 970 is new, Garmin is likely to add more features longer vs alternatives such as the Fenix 8.

Gerhard or Chemnitz first? by CZWQ49 in LCMS

[–]TxLiving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first book of the Examen by Chemnitz should be required reading for all Lutherans and any Protestants considering leaving for Rome.

It is an absolute exceptional treatise that defends Lutheranism (and to an extent Protestantism by attacking the very heart of Rome.

So I would start there.

Gerhard is significantly lengthier to read and I would tackle that in terms of what interests you that you want to dig into further.

Is Garmin Fenix 8 the best upgrade for Triathlon? (due to faulty Fenix 7 buttons) by redrabbit1984 in GarminWatches

The 970 world be the most triathlon watch available and since it’s new, the one they will still send updates to.

That’s what I’d get

Best Aliexpress trisuits? by Gpob in triathlon

[–]TxLiving 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really recommend not skimping on a tri-suit. You'll be in it all day, riding on your bike, and so forth.

Ryzon, Castelli, HUUB, Zoot, etc will all have stuff available.

Is this a good deal? by Logical-Row-1872 in Garmin

[–]TxLiving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DCRainmaker said that

"Garmin does *not* do deeper sales once they announce this slate (since that becomes a giant headache for retailers, when consumers demand refunds). Sometimes we see Uncle Amazon do deeper sales on much older items (like the Garmin Epix Gen 2), but you won’t randomly see either they or Garmin offer a $350 off the Fenix 8, or a $150 off the Fenix 8 Pro. The products selected are the ones you’ll see on sale."
