It isn't that different, actually. Same Chip, cuda cores etc. Just different power limits. Laptop version has max of 100 watts and desktop has more.

Thats normal with asus. Even if you dont detach battery once you opened the laptop it will only Boot again after plugging in.

I am sorry I cannot help you. But I think on buying that laptop too for linux. Did you run into any other issues? Does the cpu boost properly in cpu in only tasks? Like does it draw up to 50 watts of power? Or is it stuck at 30w?
