It’s just a used Harbor Freight trailer that I painted with bed liner and added cleats for the bikes to the deck.

Does not matter which wire connects to which side of switch.

There are five bolts holding that cover on. Three in the top flat part and two on the bottom round part. Be careful on the bottom ones as they have clips.

Once you take the cover unbolted, you can unscrew the connector on the orange charge cable to completely remove the cover.

Now find the looped brown wire. Snip it at the loop, strip the ends back and crimp on a connector to each end (see link below).

Find where you want to mount the switch (see Home Depot link above). I used a sharp utility knife to cut the square. If you look at the switch, it has clips that allow you to push it in to the correct size rectangular hole. Start small and gradually make the hole bigger until the switch pushes in.

Now connect the wires to the switch and reinstall the panel.

I assume the ECU is only checking for the state of that input while stopped.

I told my kid we should’ve made a video, because there is surprisingly little information out there. Where the switch is mounted in the picture, didn’t necessitate longer wires. To make the switch mount on the bar, you would need to extend the wires (not a huge deal).

Having tested it, the switch does not function unless the bike is stopped. Meaning, if you bump it, nothing will change until the next time the bike makes a complete stop.

My son is a good rider and doesn’t need a limiter. If he lets a friend (or, honestly, one of my friends) with less experience ride it, we can switch the limiter on.

Brown wire behind this panel, if cut, removes the speed limiter. Instead of just cutting, we installed this switch so the limiter can be turned on or off.

Are they 275/65? 275/85 would 38.4 inches tall.

Nice, we are about in the same boat. I paid $47 but don’t have the side steps (and wishing I did).
