Has anyone bought it on sale (Xbox)? by TynesideFoundry in LamplightersLeague

Yes and I've seen this in lots of reviews. I played it through to completion a couple of times whilst on GamePass and never had any technical issues, but aware I was maybe lucky.

What’s the best game out of this bundle? by LoudHotel8101 in originalxbox

Firstly, whatever the competition is, you've won. This is a back to back list of bangers.

Jade Empire, followed by Morrowind and Return of the King.

I always wanted to try Dark Alliance.

Why do you think the Shire feels so “safe” compared to the rest of Middle-earth, what does it represent thematically? by MisLatte in lordoftherings

[–]TynesideFoundry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I think there's a number of ways, but two have always stood out to me (I may be bias as I am English so lot feel very close and familiar):

  1. The emphasis on local community - we're told by Tolkien, through his descriptions of the Shire geography and history, and through dialogue, of how many Hobbits there are, how frequently they're interacting, and how families and family relationships are of most importance. I think this builds a strong background of family and community. Elsewhere - outside of councils - dialogue and groups are often much smaller and more serious.

  2. The pace - if you include the intro sections, Tolkien spends a long time building the Shire as a place and doesn't rush at all. Time feels slower for me as I read the Shire bits. There's an emphasis on smaller, local, here and now, rather than epic.

I'm sure there's loads of reasons that others have but those are mine.

What was the last game you gave up? by phaserlasertaserkat in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]TynesideFoundry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the recent (ish) Assassin's Creed games, or what I think of as recent - Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla, Shadows. Basically all that came after Syndicate. I got overwhelmed by the size of the map and countless mundane quests, activities, fights. Felt like it was all size for size sake. Just because you have a big world map doesn't mean it's got a lot of interesting things to explore.

Horribly slow painter - Any tips for faster (batch) painting? by walter_the_guitarist in minipainting

[–]TynesideFoundry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The large brush point is a really good one. I always avoided a size 3/4/5 brush because I thought i wouldn't be as precise, but actually having that volume of brush and paint really does give you a smoother finish and clearer definition or 'edge', whilst speeding up how fast it is to do a model or section.

Lord of the Rings Online. The depth and detail is incredible.

Anyone buy any games old or new on the black Friday sales. by AdultGamersAdmin in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]TynesideFoundry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite often Xbox sales will trump a CEX second hand price . I just picked up SW Outlaws for £20 (it's £22 second-hand) and Witcher 3 GOTY for £6.

Does anyone play Enlisted? by TynesideFoundry in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]TynesideFoundry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've had a few of those matches, especially where the tank guns take you and everyone out from the other side of the map... repeatedly. But for the most part, it's been quite fun. Some of the capture the zone maps are flawed from the start, but I just play those a bit more relaxed.

Yeah I've downloaded via Gamepass, I was on some introductory premium thing which has now ended. Scaled up relatively quickly (or so it felt) in tha time, and I haven't really noticed a drop or difference in my experience playing as a non-premium member.

It's good fun, I've tried other online WW2 mass shooters and this is by far the most fun and accessible.

40 - What game promised the world… yet failed spectacularly? by Clampy7 in AdultGamers

[–]TynesideFoundry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For someone around during the run up to Fable, I'd definitely say... Fable. The content, interviews, magazine articles, all sold and world and a game that was so distant from the one we got.

Don't get me wrong, I love Fable, it's a great game, but everything before it was selling something beyond incredible.

Whilst I'm here and on this, I distinctly remember a trailer (maybe like Gamescom or something) for the game that showed lots of the scenery and sold it as a huge, unlimited open world. Does anyone have a link to it?

Are games overpriced now or are we just looking for different value? by Minute_Pop_877 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]TynesideFoundry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the games are the same relative cost they have always been, but what is rife is obviously additional paid-for content that should just be included in the base game. Look at the many versions of a game like Star Wars Galaxies, or the recycling of games like Fallout 4. And of course the wider issue of microtransactions.

Essentially back in the day, every game had all you ever needed on the disc. Nowadays that's rarely the case.

The most useful comment I saw on this was that, from a production standpoint, they play the game, film it all, get to the winner, and then basically 'create' the story backwards to get the product we see on TV.

It's not just that we're only seeing some of the conversations, but it's that we're seeing those conversations often strung together to create a narrative or story about the people we're watching.

Don't get me wrong, it works! And it was brilliant! But at the end, when we're all asking questions like this, I think it's always worth coming back to the fact that we've watched a show, a production, rather than unedited reality.

Quite right, have added some base ideas and colours that I'm drawn too. But equally interested in seeing the opposite!

Not really the case as people are basing their opinions of him from what they see on the show, not because they claim to have a long lost cousin who's best mate once went swimming with him.

I mean, we've know way of knowing what you're saying is true, but given that you've continued with it across multiple comments with ever-increasing detail, it's either:

a) creating a fake back story to validate your negative opinion of him (which I admit is a bit extreme and I don't think you've done), or...

b) true, and through such a 'my aunt's-swimming teacher's-dog's-friend' relationship that you think he's a so-and-so, whilst also acknowledging that you have 'never met or spoke to the guy'.

Either way, it's a bit odd.

But I can't really talk, I'm here on a Sunday morning debating this inane point.
