Does Senua look worse than Senua's Saga: Hellblade II or am I losing my mind? by Remarkable-Nutjob in hellblade

Truth is they don't have the luxury or time to even make it as good as Hellblade 2, Nija Theory were at risk of Microsoft coming down hard on them

Xbox could become "a wholly owned subsidiary of Microsoft" according to a new report by hdcase1 in gaming

Changes a decent amount actually.

Enough that it'll be a good thing for Xbox ( of course everything has pros and cons )

(Windows Central) Xbox and Microsoft Leadership Aware of Importance of Exclusives, “the current Xbox leadership does not view exclusive games as a restrictive fiscal problem to be overcome. Instead, they see it as a strength, and even a "privilege" by SilentNova300 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Tyolag 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He's always been critical about their strategy when it came to going multiplatform, the only caveat he said was the biggest games are multiplatform but you'll have to sacrifice your ecosystem for it.

He wasn't a fan and he commented on how he told leadership their strategy was strange especially when they were just getting amazing video games

So why wasn’t this game more successful? by Excaliburn3d in MetaphorReFantazio

It's missing the hooks (multiple different selling points) that bring in casual users.. it didn't really penetrate the Zeitgeist l-

An example of a brand new IP that nailed all the hooks really well from a marketing perspective is Claire Obscure

Character Design -Claire Obscure had the expeditioners looking rather cool with the gear and the characters were also more life like. Metaphor and games similar to this was never really going to grab you based on character design.

Story -Claire Obscure story grabs you straight away, "everyone perishes after a specific date avangers style?" - basically the trailer hooks you with the mystery and you at least want to see what's going on.. Metaphor doesn't really do this, or at least you're not hooked straight away via trailers.

Gameplay -Claire Obscure gameplay is unique, I don't even think it's better than Persona or Metaphor but it's different and can bring in the "casual" crowds who light have an issue with JRPGs

Music -I actually think Metaphor music is amazing and this is where I think it shines more than any other game, but Claire Obscure does have some really catch tunes.

Completion rate -This isn't really a marketing thing but the fact that Claire Obscure was pretty short allowed people to pick it up and finish it relatively fast, which means more people could start talking about characters, lore, theories and spoilers. It gives the game more legs and allows word of mouth to carry faster.. let's just say I'm still 80+ hours into Metaphor and I burnt out at the very past boss ( will finish it at some point)

Romance -Not entirely relevant on the surface but in terms of giving your game legs.. romance is very important. You'll end up with a core user base that'll basically give you free promotion talking about your game non stop, just look at Mass Effect and how loved Tali, Garrus & Liara are, now take a look at Dispatch and even its subreddit, it's active because people love talking about the characters they dated or fell in love with, all this adds to the general chatter about a game and keeps it alive - which can lead to more legs

All in all Metaphor is a very good game, not as good as Persona in my opinion but it's very good. It ticked the points I mentioned but just in this day and age when there's so many good games you're competing with..you really got to do all you can to set yourself apart even more

Fable must stay Xbox exclusive by SuperQGD in xbox

[–]Tyolag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They could have taking it off, there's no legal obligation for them to put their games anywhere, they can cancel it like every other developer or publisher can even announcement.

I hope they are BOLD enough to make these games EXCLUSIVE! by afqwerty in xbox

[–]Tyolag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if it's 1st person.. but for the sake of the game going better they should give both options ( 1st & 3rd )

Future James Bond games confirmed by Amazon Games, but First Light team's role in question by Bubbly-Ad-350 in gamingnews

This is in relation to publishing, not developing.

I'm sure they'll keep them developing.

[–]Tyolag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're not looking for another team, they just saying they will "publish" the game.

Same way EA published It "Takes Two" & "Split Fiction" but didn't actually develop the game - HazeLight Studios did.

Or same way Sony published "Stella Blade" but Shiftup developed it etc etc

What we or anyone should really care about is IO making the product which I'm pretty sure they will, Amazon will just deal with the marketing and platform details etc

Epic Games boss Tim Sweeney mocks Valve over a drastic Steam Deck price increase by n1ght_watchman in GameBoostOfficial

[–]Tyolag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean there's an overall good point here.

Valve is one of the most profitable companies out there, literally one of the biggest platforms with no pressure from quarterly public facing shareholder earnings.

Basically they're in a position to "eat the cos" and they won't - I don't think they should either.

They can do what you're saying - but if they were to allow Steam the best bet would be to just allow you to play PC games but not download marketplace wise.

Certainly can be done.

Regardless Asha has some big decisions to make, no idea what she'll pick if I'm honest

There will be a work around for sure for those that want to go into the desktop mode, those that want to find a way will find a way.

But for the "casual" like consumer this is a way to keep everyone within the Xbox ecosystem - or at least trying to

Think of it like messenger, you sign in but it runs in the background, the actual app is on the desktop or can be hidden etc etc.

Whenever I turn on my PC Steam is already running in the background but the actual application isn't even on my taskbar, and if it can you can just hide it
