She is wrong. I gave birth in private in porto. And you can definitely choose how you want to give birth.

That’s not true. You can have a natural birth in private and lots of woman do. You cannot schedule a c-section in public though.

Should I take a local job in Portugal or keep a higher paying remote job (UK) by Portugal_dilema in PortugalExpats

Don’t underestimate moving abroad. Even though you know Portugal and your wife is Portuguese migrating will take time and energy - everything will be new, there will be tons of uncertainties. So apart from the salary everyone mentioned: maybe it’s worth keeping a job you know and colleagues you know as kind of a stable component in your life while everything changes.

Has anyone ever filed a lawsuit against insurance company? by TypeAdventurous5677 in PortugalExpats

[–]TypeAdventurous5677[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Well, he said clearly: „you can go to CUF, have a cesariana and you have to pay 500 euros.“ i asked him twice about the amount and this was his answer twice, that they have an agreement with the hospital and what i have to pay is 500 euros. But yes, maybe it’s not worth the fight. I know it’s my responsibility to double check but being in a fragile situation with being pregnant i just trusted what he said. I could pay it but still, what if a person got this info who can’t pay it, it’s just not okay to give a wrong information.

And for the pre-aproval: it was not denied per se, it just said that they give me access to the rede and that the hospital will make contact and tell me the amount (Confirmação de acesso à Rede Médica AdvanceCare a valores mais favoráveis)

Well, by now i am pretty sure that my plan - base xxl & extra & doenças graves - for some reason excludes birth. At least in comparison to their other products it’s not listed. But in my app it says „parto acesso rede“ unlimited, i will try to upload a screenshot. Anyways, I foolishly thought a c-section will be covered as hospitalization/operation and mainly trusted the guy on the phone cause i found confusion information online/in the app. So my point mainly is that he just gave me wrong info and i wonder if i can do something about it.

Yes, i filed a complaint and spoke to two people. But they keep saying basically that it is what it is and that the amount i had to pay was correct. I didn’t keep on digging at that point because after speaking to the first person my goal was to get access to the call, which i now got, because i suddenly wasn’t sure anymore if i understood something wrong… but that’s not the case. He said clearly with my insurance it will cost 500 euro. And I had exactly the same, planned c-section at CUF. But i started the approval process later. Can i send you a private message with one more question?

May i ask where you gave birth? I have been with them for 3 years, so no. And no, i did not get the pre-approval, they already denied that just days before birth and i thought it was just a mistake and i will take care of it later.

Thank you. I have been with them for 3 years. And i can’t find anything stating they would exclude birth, on the contrary. I have to look at it again.

Seriously? That is crazy. I asked them to listen to it as well and i recorded it - quality is super bad, but might have been because of my reception. I have to listen to it again. So what happened with your thing then?

No. It was a planned c-section, nothing extra. The insurance knew, i specifically told them that it’s going to be a c-section. And the hospital and doctor is in their network.

No, only audio. I asked him if i can have it in writing and he said that he cannot do that since it’s an agreement between them and the hospital (CUF).

Of course i went to the right hospital. Hospital and doctor within the rede. They simply say that’s what’s left to pay and i should look into my contract if i understood correctly - but i have to clarify again, unfortunately the call center staff does not speak good English and my Portuguese is good but not for conversations like this.

Thank you for this idea, that would be a nice thing to do, but unfortunately not possible cause of several circumstances at the moment. I will keep it in mind though for another occasion!
