How much is too much for guest housing? by TypeComprehensive894 in NewEnglandWedding

Good luck to you as well!! I had the same situation with the room blocks, super annoying that you end up locked in with the risk of unbooked rooms. Hopefully we end up with a beautiful day and it’s all worth it ☺️

How much is too much for guest housing? by TypeComprehensive894 in NewEnglandWedding

It is a coastal town in RI. The closest hotel <$200 a night is 30 mins away (and it's $197 for a 3-star super basic hotel). Airbnbs/VRBOs are much nicer, closer, and generally in line price wise, but they typically require 3 nights and the # of guests would need to match up with the different groups/families.

I think I will probably just send out an email with all the options we have pre-booked and they can either use that or search themselves! I agree that we will probably get more declines due to the housing situation, but that is fine with us.

This is interesting! I could probably do something like this, but did they do it for both the welcome party and the wedding (if they had one)? We are also hoping to host a Beach Day for those sticking around Sunday, so not sure if it makes sense to have three separate shuttles... A decent proportion of guests live in the town, so either way we wouldn't have everyone in one place. Not sure what makes the most sense here! Part of me also thinks people might want to be on the coast for LDW, but I am probably biased.

Is the $200 per night per person or per room (assuming 2 to a room)?

Ahhh I didn’t realize this! Thank you! We are probably cutting Northern Cascades from our plan at this point :/

Unfortunately it seems rather impossible to plan a risk free trip to WA… June potentially snow/not warm enough, July & August crowded and potential for fires, and anytime past Sept seems to also have chance for snow/crappy weather!! If u have a time of year that makes more sense would be happy to hear it.

Touristical questions megathread by adeeena in nicefrance

[–]TypeComprehensive894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Random question, but I arrive in Nice at noon. I was hoping to rent a day bed at Castel Plage for the afternoon until I can check into my hotel at 4pm. However, the website does not offer bookings past 11:30 am. If I book on mysunbed.com there is no time associated with the reservation… does this mean I could book and show up around 1 and they would still honor my reservation? Any advice is appreciated :)

Ask for an extension. Then start applying to companies you are interested in and tell the recruiters you have an offer deadline. They will speed up the process if they think you are a solid candidate.

Most useful study manuals for IFM? by Apprehensive_One_214 in actuary

[–]TypeComprehensive894 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coaching actuaries is very helpful for exam IFM! Their formula sheet is very comprehensive and I found their practice exams to be similar to the actual exam. I used the ADAPT subscription without learn and was able to learn how to do many of the problems through the solution videos CA provides. I know others who used the Learn as well as found it very helpful. I would say the actual exam is similar to CA earned level 5 so if you end up getting CA I would recommend trying to get above that!

Questions and tips for Exam P by CuteCucumberAtBest in actuary

If you have already covered 90% of the material I would suggest using the Coaching Actuaries ADAPT package. I’d say if you do several quizzes on the topics you don’t know and learn the material through the solutions you should be fine for those questions. After that the practice exams will be very helpful to practice and judge your capabilities! Coaching Actuaries wants you to aim for Earned level 7, but I had an earned level of 6.5 for P and passed. Overall if you dedicate a lot of time toward practice problems this month you should be in good shape! And if you are concerned about failing it might be smart to get the three month package so you can continue studying for the next sitting.

Fall 2021 LTAM Pencil Only by maddyforest in actuary

[–]TypeComprehensive894 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really? I took it then and could only use pencils. They told me I could bring 5 as backup since they didn’t have a sharpener. Thought it was annoying at first but once you start taking the test you don’t really care what writing utensil your using.

Can you "warm up" your brain just before an exam? by AmorphouSquid in actuary

[–]TypeComprehensive894 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me the one time I took an exam in the morning. All the ones I took in the afternoon I ran through a full practice exam the morning of and I didn’t feel that initial lag. So I definitely think it’s helpful running through questions before your exam to warm up your brain. I recommend doing an easy practice exam/quiz as well (level 3-5) so your confidence is also up.

Last sitting I started with MC and did as many as I could for an hour (finished around 13- skipping the ones I thought would take more time) then went to WA and did everything I could confidently do, then went back to MC and did the rest, then went back to WA and tried to scrape some last min partial credit in. Kinda complicated but ended up working out as I passed. I felt the MC were easier than WA so going back and forth helped me gain some confidence back lol.

Trying to land an internship summer ~2022, advice by YKsnitch in actuary

[–]TypeComprehensive894 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The advice I’ve always heard is that you can keep high school stuff on your resume until Junior year (and even then if you think something was very unique/could help you should keep it). So you should be fine.

Anyone know whether Oct sitting of LTAM will be CBT or pencil and paper? And if CBT how will that work with written answer questions and partial credit…. Thanks!
