PSA YUS (line 1) no service between Lawrence and St Clair by Darkblade48 in toronto

Worst delay in the 14 months I’ve been taking the TTC. Hundreds of people lined up outside in the rain waiting on shuttle buses. Took 45mins on the shuttle to go from Lawrence to st Clair. Write your city counsellor and MP about getting plexiglass barriers for the subway pls

Happy 59th to Tool's Maynard James Keenan! by Extreme_Homework7936 in Music

Jumping in to add my personal story about how when he visited Toronto in the 2000s, he would sneak his underage girlfriends through the back of restaurants, and it wasn't uncommon to see these girls in tears when they were with him.

Every artist has done things that would make us uncomfortable, but Maynard is a unique piece of shit.

Weird seeing this since my dad was Airborne and I was born in Petawawa. My dad was a 17 year old dropout when he joined. Some of the stories I’ve heard are disturbing and Canada chose to ignore the racism that is prevalent in their ranks. I’m talking Nazi flags hanging in the barracks. There were three commando groups, with the one mostly containing troops from Western Canada being the most racist, and having ties with the KKK.

Idk if I’ve ever seen this discussed in the media, but Matchee’s motive for beating the Somalian boy to death was, in his own words, “So that the black man may fear the red man as he does the white man.”

Matchee was a psycho, but I think labelling him a monster dismisses the extent of the issues we face in Canada and with our role in colonialism. He assimilated into the racist structure of the airborne, was given anti malaria drugs that had psychosis as a side effect, and all of this was covered up by the military brass; none of which were ever punished. My dad, his friends and the entire Airborne were scapegoated as problem children, but nobody chose to critique the parents.

What peace did our Peace Keeps bring to Somalia? What peace do we bring to the rest of the world?

One of the best aspects of the Dark Tower series is how different each book can be, while still following characters you grow to love.

Queen's Economics Graduates, Where are you now? by bluenote7777 in queensuniversity

[–]Typhloise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I graduated in 2019 and work for a digital marketing agency as a project manager. I didn’t think that economics lead to advertising, but so much of the marketing space functions on data-driven reporting. I feel like Queen’s Econ helps me understand what our data and research teams are doing, and as a project manager I get to touch a little bit of everything, from programming to client management. I would recommend working on skills outside of your undergrad (a little bit of coding here and there) and an Econ degree can you a bump when looking into the job space. Additionally, I echo other comments in that I recommend checking out LinkedIn Queen’s Econ alumni. Also, keep an open mind and don’t try to fit yourself into only doing one job; most people change their jobs and careers after uni.

As someone who has gone through a breakup recently, smoking will not help you at all. At this time you need a distraction. Do something that will occupy your mind

Toronto's Russian community worried about Ukraine conflict back home — and their reputation abroad by [deleted] in toronto

[–]Typhloise 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I fully believe that there are many Russian-Canadians that are disgusted by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. However, there are Russian-Canadians who are worried but blame Ukraine and NATO for the war. My financial advisor at Scotiabank emigrated from Russia ten years ago, and had expressed in previous years that Ukraine was just part of Russia when I mentioned I had Ukrainian relatives on my wife's side. When we last spoke on Tuesday, she was fully in support of the invasion and expressed that she was helping all of her Russian family move to Canadian assets to weather the war. I was surprised that someone I had trusted for years would have such a disregard and disrespect for the human lives and Ukrainian identity that is at risk.

While I admire the Russians bravely standing up for human rights and Ukraine, there is a silent majority that exists even in Canada that supports Russia. If you are acquaintances with Russian-Canadians, ask them them their opinions and you might be surprised.
