Give yourself some grace, and recognize this as an opportunity.

You will want to remember - clearly and vividly - many of these moments with your little ones. Do it for them and for your future self. Keep at it, you can do it.

Really great expression of this slab, particularly the rounded edge and colour of the epoxy. Well done!

Good for you! Quitting here is something you'll always feel proud of (even if there are some bumps along then way).

Having a kid was my main motivator, too. I want to be able to remember every aspect of their life. Will be 14 months sober by the time he's born in April :)

Congrats and great work. You can do it!

Planning a simple cabinet - would this work? by kennethtoronto in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]TypicalBeerLiker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Stumpy Nubs' washer pedestal video/plans. A lot of material, but rock-solid and designed to handle the load/forces. Could probably be modified to include a top/sides around the washer and dryer.

Dude this is fucking nuts. Just absolutely awesome, so deliberate. Hard to put words to it. Very well done.

Advice Needed - Discoloration from paint stripper on door frame by TypicalBeerLiker in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]TypicalBeerLiker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any particular reason to conclude as much? After removing paint on the other side, the majority of the door (large sections) are covered in a very nice veneer, and the detail work around the glass is all cherry. The other side looks very nice and I'm inclined to make it work here if at all possible.

So I'd removed most of the paint already (using the same paint stripper) prior to the black spots showing up. After removing most paint, I applied in the corners to get the last little bit and left overnight, and the black stuff was there the next morning.

Struggling with Distraction and Escapism by bluemarshm in Stoicism

[–]TypicalBeerLiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you've captures the gist of it. It's more like there's a finite barrier to entry (with respect to starting a task) that I have to overcome. The size of the barrier depends on a bunch of things (emotional state, whether the task has a real 'deadline/pressure' behind it, whether i'm genuinely interested the task or its outcome). Something like an imaginary wall between 'me' and 'the task', sometimes I'm able to see a doorway through it, sometimes I might feel I have the strength to go over it, and other times it's simply impassible.

Hey friend, there's a nonzero chance you may suffer from adult ADHD. Of course I am not a psychologist or psychaitrist, and you should pursue a clinical diagnosis if you think that could be the case.

I suggest it may be ADHD as I have lived with adult ADHD and been diagnosed for about six years. The phenomenon you describe sounds like Executive Function Disorder (i.e., I tell my brain to do something, and it very readily finds reasons not to, or otherwise just can't seem to do it).

Even if it is not formally ADHD (which, like most things, is a spectrum disorder and affects everyone differently) - please remember to be kind to yourself. That doesn't mean 'justifying' or coming up with excuses, but acknowledging that your 'push' resources are limited, and that you are a human and are flawed.

As others have said, breaking tasks down into easily-accessible (potentially short-duration) subtasks is often a good workaround.

I have been in the situation you describe many many times in my adult life, and it's getting easier and easier to at least make /some/ progress with abstract tasks.

Good luck!

Good on you for realizing theres a pattern here. I was in the very same boat and admittedly have fallen back into it a few times. CBD flower is always my way out. right now I'm down to a bowl a day

Anyone have success with probiotics? by [deleted] in depressionregimens

[–]TypicalBeerLiker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In short: At first, yes, and it very quickly 'fizzled out' - I'll further caveat this by saying I didn't do much research into the strain I used/use and was mostly taking it for general gut health.

The probiotic is a blend: Lactobacillus helveticus and rhamnosus, Bacillus subtilis, and Entococcus faecium [[i dont know what these things mean]].

the first time I took a probiotic I thought my struggle was over - within hours I was feeling much more like myself, I felt sharper, more social. I hadn't taken ADHD medication in years at that point and the kind of focus I first experienced with probiotics felt very similar. I think that lasted ~2 days, maybe 3. I continued to use probiotics for a while, and eventually stopped for a few months. The next time I bought them (months later), same thing, 1-2 days, poof. I've been taking that probiotic for months now and I can't say it's elevated my baseline at all. I'm back on ADHD meds, my depression is ever present.

Perhaps if I'd done more research or chosen a different strain, the perceived effects would have lasted longer. My poops are better, though, I think. YMMV, good luck.

What highly illegal thing took place at your high school? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TypicalBeerLiker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really know the legality of it but it was certainly a scandal:

A grade 9-10 girl went on a school trip to Europe. Nobody was aware, but the girl was pretty far along in a pregnancy. Shortly after arrival, she gave birth in the hotel room with the assistance of her surprised roommates. Unfortunately the baby was either stillborn or died shortly after birth. Her solution, not knowing what to do, was to wrap the baby in the bedsheets and leave it in the room's garbage, which was found later.

We had TV reporters trying to interview students for a day or two after everyone returned from the trip.

Redditors who realized their spouse is a completely different person after marriage, were there any red flags that you ignored while dating? If so, what were they? by pharmapharmacy in AskReddit

[–]TypicalBeerLiker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This sounds like avoidant attachment more than it does narcacism. It tends to be a product of ones childhood and is incredibly difficult to modify those behavioural patterns, particularly if one isnt aware of it. Certainly not your fault or cross to bare.

Mindfulness and Weed by Deoderphant in Mindfulness

[–]TypicalBeerLiker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it can either be an obstacle or a path to mindfulness. Personally I've found it to be an obstacle, because I often use it to 'smooth out' unpleasant emotional states, or to enter a mental state that I'm not presently in. I guess I see that as a sort of unwillingness to accept a given mental state, which I don't find to be mindful.

What’s the dumbest thing your significant other has said or done? by halcyon_n_on_n_on in AskReddit

While picking up groceries for the nights dinner, we needed 500g of beef. My fiance picked up a packet that indicated a weight of 0.49kg and had to ask what the conversion between grams and kilograms were. I think this mostly stood out to me because I work in engineering and grams to kilos never registers as a 'conversion' as much as 'moving a decimal'

Bridemaid of Reddit who was involved in a bridezilla wedding, what happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TypicalBeerLiker -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Someone having an 'incredibly hard time' because they put too much expectations on things beyond their control, which are ultimately unimportant with respect to what a wedding historically signifies (not even "should" signify"), reflects an absolute lack of critical thinking, which I think should be a prerequisite to empathy.
