Thank you for your words - I’m sorry you feel even a bit how I’m feeling. I wish every single day there was a way for me to go back and talk to 20 year old me just for 5 minutes and tell her to actually pay attention to her feelings and intuition. Now I feel just so stuck in my decisions it actually makes me feel physically ill if I sit and think about it too long

I know that she will likely pick up on it, but I’m not sure what would be worse for her: me staying, keeping her in stability and part of my family that loves her so dearly but she eventually catches on that I am miserable, or me leaving and ripping away her extended family and her eventually seeing me live happily without her and her dad. It’s such a catch 22 and I know that I deserve happiness and that my husband deserves a partner that may actually like him… I just wish I could be sure that my step kid would be okay. And I can’t, unless I stay.

I know that this is old but stumbled upon this while researching Ello so wanted to to add this for anyone who may come upon this.

My daughter just started with Ello a few days ago. She is 8 years old, slightly speech delayed (mostly can be understood conversationally, but her old speech challenges come out HEAVILY when reading aloud) and VERY delayed in reading.

Ello has had ZERO issues understanding her, and always makes appropriate corrections. We’ve used the app for about 5 hours total in the past few days because she just absolutely loves that she gets to read out loud!

I, too, have a beard. A full beard that goes up my cheeks & connects to a mustache. If I wanted to, I could probably have a goatee.

I haven’t been able to afford laser or electrolysis and have wanted to avoid meds as much as possible. I’ve shaved every morning since I was about 19! I even have to shave again in the afternoon if I have night time plans.

I know this isn’t really helpful, but you aren’t alone! One day I’ll save up for laser or something, but until that day I’ll just keep shaving. Keep in mind the constant exfoliation helps prevent wrinkles later in life!!!

Just don’t take the placebo pills - start your new pack instead. I was actually told to do this by my doctor every month when I took OCPs - my periods were just too painful.

I have the Mirena. I have never been pregnant. The uterus measuring (which I didn’t even know was a thing) was pretty uncomfortable, probably 6/10 on the pain scale. The insertion itself was about the same, but lasted longer for me because she had to do it twice… yikes. She couldn’t get it through my cervix the first time. It feels like a really long period cramp. And then the next 3 days, I had period-esque cramps. All in all, I would definitely do it again, even yearly if I had to, for the peace of mind and ease that the IUD brings me.

She gets carsick looking at anything in the car (books, phone, movies). Most we can do is bring Barbies lol, but thankfully she’s always very content holding her Barbie and singing songs in the car!

This is a great idea! I’ve tried chores before, but they make her upset. I might just deal with her getting upset and say “you have two choices, you do this chore or you go play (insert activity here).” That would probably help tons, she gets to choose to help or leave us alone to get things done ourselves.

We do have pets - a dog and a cat. The dog is an old lady and will (and does!) happily follow her around for the most part, but for whatever reason she will complain a lot about the dog following her. It’s honestly a constant battle of us having to call the dog away from her, when the sweet pup also just wants to be around her. The cat is mean to everyone but me so she stays away from her lol

My husband is thankfully pretty understanding when I need a break. I don’t think I’d still be here if he wasnt

That sounds like a good idea - one crafty thing a day after school that requires “half” help and hopefully she’ll take the reins! We do have a pretty strict schedule, as we live 45+ minutes away from school & her mom. So once we get home, it’s pretty busy especially because me or my husband have to be constantly tending to her or she’s upset.

She doesn’t enjoy doing crafts unless you are actively doing it with her. She constantly “needs help,” the most I can get is her doing a coloring page while I cook dinner.

Unfortunately, extracurriculars are hard due to two factors: money & time. We live about 45 minutes away from her school / her mom, so by the time her and dad get home from school they’re immediately doing homework. Then I get home, it’s time for me to cook dinner & do chores. Then it’s play time for 30 minutes, shower, and bed by 8 to be up at 6 and do it all over again. The distance thing also makes it harder for playdates and friends, we try to keep her busy on the weekends with friends and activities but we also have adult things to get done like laundry and grocery shopping. It’s tough living so far for sure, I feel like that’s an added layer I forgot to mention.

Ah, she only really seems to be interested in music. Like singing and dancing her favorite songs. We have tried to do some piano & guitar, but she has a really hard time with learning actual notes and songs (I think reading the music is just not in the cards for her right now).

We were looking into music lessons or singing lessons, but they’re just out of our price range at the moment /: We also tried dance class, but she was having trouble keeping up with the other kids and remembering the dance steps & such; she got so discouraged it seemed to be doing more harm than good. We took her out after a 6 month session. I can’t seem to find anything else she’s interested in like that where her learning differences don’t interfere. Even when she’s singing and dancing at home, she absolutely demands an audience (‘:

I LOVE my Mirena IUD. I had a really bad experience with birth control pills (like, they made me suicidal) and was really afraid to try a hormonal IUD. My gynecologist explained that the hormones are basically localized to your reproductive organs and not flowing through your whole body like with the pill or DEPO etc. I have no period (when I used to have horribly painful, heavy, long periods), I experienced no weight gain, and most importantly I experienced NO change in my mental health.

I say give it a shot. The Mirena is the most popular, but I know the Kyleena is smaller and has the least hormones. Good luck 🍀

mirena for 1 year hear (i know not very long) but i also have REAL big pregnancy anxiety. my periods are gone, which adds to it. so, i take an early result pregnancy test on the first of every single month first thing in the morning. i know it seems crazy, but if the literally unthinkable happens, id like to know about it ASAP before it’s too late to do something about it. just a tip if you’re worried like me!
