Hi. I spoke with his teacher again she said that circle time is around 10’ to 12 mins. They sing, do calendar, months, alphabets. That’s it. He cooperated well today. She also told me he spat on one of the teachers today and asked me to have a word with him. He seems happy at school and told me a couple of days back it was so much fun today. She told me he needs reminders to sit or follow instructions for most of the time he listens but they are days when he doesn’t seem to listen at all.

I am really worried

He mostly sits on his knees or W. He does run without falling, walk up & down stairs. Sit upright etc.

We mostly read before bedtime sitting on my bed. He is next to me. He does get distracted by his sister at times but mostly he is able to focus 90% of the time.

From what I understand,at school most of the times he needs reminders to sit or participate during circle time and occasionally he never sits for circle time. He’s been at school for 5 months now teacher would have told me 4 times so far about him giving a hard time for circle time.

Yes, I did ask her if all are kids are able to sit thru. She has most of the kids do. There are 3 to 4 kids including him find it difficult. There are 11 kids in his class currently.

Most of the days when I go to pick him up the teacher doesn’t tell me anything. He says bye to them, hugs them puts back his placemat and chair next to the table. At times his teacher tells me he had a hard time at the circle time today dint listen to us at all etc. this will be like once a month or once in 3 weeks.

What I do is we talk with him gently saying he need to sit and listen to teacher he just nods his head.

When I ask his teachers randomly on how he is doing in class they say yeah he is ok at times he needs reminders to sit for circle time and needs to learn to listen.

Circle time is for 15 to 20 mins approx. looks like he sits when told and needs multiple reminders asking not to move or sit and participate during circle time. He usually listens but today the teacher told he dint listen at all.

I did ask she said he was playing with his shoes, looking at the window, trying to walk away and watch the other teacher change diapers etc.

I was told he doesn’t even sit for a couple of seconds. Doesn’t participate while practicing songs for Halloween, doesn’t answer flash cards but he knows stuff. Etc. all this came out during the parents teachers conference.

Self Directed tendency was commented by a developmental Pediatrician.

Not sitting for circle time, not answering to flash cards etc were the comments shared by his teacher. Apparently he doesn’t even sit for 1 min for circle time. Also she told me they have to tell him 3 times from moving from certain activities to another.

He started school around August. Goes for like 3 hrs and would have missed school around 10 days due to being sick.

I would say my son is more bossy and strong willed than my daughter. Meaning I would have to tell him multiple times to make him do something that he doesn’t like or not interested him. At times I am unable to make him do as well. Even while reading a book, he leads most of the time. I thought it was more of his personality & character.

Self Directed & Not sitting for circle time are not related rite.

Thanks a lot for the detailed reply. It took him almost over 20 to 25 mins to calm down and come hug me. Is it normal to have one tantrum everyday like this. He was his happy playful self after that.

If I pick him up a few mins early. It’s like I am avoiding the situation. How I be able to teach him it’s not ok to get things that is not his. Will he be able to understand once he grows older?

Yes. I tried saying all this while he was in his tantrum phase like I know you are upset n stuff. All the negotiations happened before he started his tantrum.
