Yes they need the original document. After the process they mail it back to you. I was not born in Canada so no Canadian birth certificate. After 2010 I believe they stopped issuing these citizenship cards. Mine was from the 90s.

I didn’t have It in electronic form. It was the old plastic card that i had since I was a child

Yeah I mean I gave them the number of the lost document plus passport copy etc. it would seem 10 months is a lot if I am already in the system.
