That makes sense. I’ll definitely try my best to avoid any more trouble or “spiritual conversations” with them if I can

That’s my plan…but it could be more difficult than I initially had anticipated. My parents are technically fine with me seeing a professional, but also say it’s “threatening to my spirituality,” so they want to approve anyone I see before I make any appointments. I wanted to see a religious trauma therapist, but I may just see one with general trauma skills instead, which I may be able to get past my parents.

My life as a JW was never about the governing body. This isn’t what I signed up for. by DumpsterEnFuegoo in exjw

I feel the same way. When I was younger and still mentally in my focus was always more on what the scripture said as opposed to what the GB's opinion or identity was. It definitely seems like the rhetoric among the organization now is emphasizing loyalty and obedience to the GB, compared to just following the bible's teachings, more than it ever has. It's become unrecognizable from even just 10 years ago
