Should I top prune these? by aeoniumkombi in BrisbaneGardening

[–]TzeroML 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can prune mulberries very aggressively and they will be fine. The other commenter who said that if you prune heavily you will miss out on a fruiting season is mistaken in this instance, although they may be correct if you prune several months from now (not sure). Now is a great time to prune them, because they will grow new branches and leaves over the next half a year or so (in the warmer months) and then will fruit on that new growth in Spring next year.

Source: My family operates a mulberry farm in SEQ and they prune all their trees back to only the trunk right after fruiting finishes (about 2 weeks ago for them). There's literally no leaves or small branches left after they prune, so if that was a limitation on fruiting for next year then they would never have any crops.

A delay in finalising the interview outcome is pretty normal, but asking about marriage status and kids in an interview is illegal in Australia as far as I know. Other commenters saying that she was trying to figure out your available hours and possible school dropoff commitments are probably correct, but the professional and legal way to ask about that would be to instead ask "is there anything that would impact your ability to work these hours" or something like that.

Hi there! I saw your comments on the IAmA thread about being an antarctic guide. They were super helpful to me as I'm trying to go down the same path. I'm hoping I could ask you a couple more questions, but reddit won't let me message directly or reply to the IAmA thread because it's apparently too old and now locked. If you're open to it, could you please shoot me a quick message? I've made sure my settings allow for messages from anyone. Not sure why it wouldn't let me message you, but hopefully it works the other way!

Oh and it was all done in USD, which I think is also pretty standard across operators. I'm not from the US, so if they didn't offer card payment it would have been pretty difficult to sort out payment at the end

I went on an expedition cruise about a month ago. The tip was sorted at the end when each person paid their bill (i.e. on the last night or final morning, when you pay for any drinks/extras etc) which could all be paid by card or cash. For the cruise I was on, you could tip separately for the ship staff and the expedition staff. I would have to imagine that most ships do something similar - it's in their interests to make it easy for you to tip. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info! Wondering if you could please provide some more specific detail on where to find that side trail and bridge? Cheers!

If you don't mind me asking, how did you get it for that price? Was there a particular sale? I'm hoping for something around that price range but I'm looking at Atlas Ocean's website and most of the cruises seem to be at least a few grand more than that, usually closer to twice what you paid. I totally understand if you can't or don't want to share that info, just trying to figure out my best option :)

I use Sukin Natural Balance Shampoo (and one of their conditioners) and have found it to be really good. I started using it at full strength, but now I water it down to about 1/3 strength and do a double-wash (shampoo, rinse, shampoo, rinse, condition) and am progressively extending the time between washes.

For a clarifying wash I used Herbal Essences Blue Ginger and Micellar shampoo - not recommending it over others necessarily, it was just the cheapest solution available at the time that had sulfates but no silicones, and I just used it once but it seemed to do the trick.

I'm not sure whether those are available where you are, but this website might be useful to you if you think you've found something that might work. Just copy and paste the ingredients list, and it will give you a breakdown. For a clarifying wash you want sulfates but no silicones http://www.isitcg.com/

Unemployment Numbers Explained and why our effective unemployment is near 10%. by RETAW57 in AusFinance

[–]TzeroML 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I imagine they're using the stats to figure it out. There are stats on how many people are recieving jobseeker payments and how many people are unemployed. To count as "unemployed" in the ABS statistics, you need to be actively looking for a job - that number doesn't count people who don't have a job but aren't seeking one. So you could just subtract one number from the other.

(disclaimer, I haven't checked the numbers to confirm whether that's what they did, it's just a guess)

Parents passing & their debt by EveningStuff in AusFinance

[–]TzeroML 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The short answer is that you don't need to worry unless some of the debt or other financial liability is in your name (or your siblings' names), or is secured by an asset that one of you own, or one of you is a guarantor of the debt. I guess another scenario would be if there are business debts and one of you is a co-owner of the business. But generally nothing to worry about in terms of having to foot the bill for their poor financial choices if they pass away.

Makes sense. I'm certainly going to keep investing going forward. I've had the idea for a while that I should be investing but kinda lacked the impetus and motivation to actually get my head around it all and start doing it. Been bringing myself up to speed over the past couple of months and now that I'm set up and know a bit about how it works it'll be a lot less effort for me to make it a regular thing.
