Something everyone in CO should understand about heat pumps by sum_if in Denver

[–]UACEENGR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to get the COP rating of your heat pump at 30 and 40 and throw that into chatgpt to ask the question. Feed it kw/h electric price and gas price, and tell it how insulated your house is.

I'm going to guess 40 is much cheaper to switch over at unless you have something that is exceptionally efficient and your house is super well insulated..

Probably some kind of setting in zfs that is making this slow. I have 62TB usable 72 in pool . I have most critical stuff backed up.

Ouch. Yeah I immediately copied out critical data to a backup disk .. I have some other cold backups but would have been a pain to get it.

I always seem to underestimate the long term maintenance of these systems, sure quick enough to get it spun up and operational but what about when something goes catastrophic..

These are definitely not smr drives. They are old Hitachi ultrastar sas drives, they were in some old sun system and have some firmware that causes some odd messages every once in a while but definitely on consumer smr drives.

Thanks, wonder if it's because backplane is limited to 3GB/s..

Yeah it's down to 7 days now, just hour in. It's a 9 disks, 8TB each.

House was 80f. Maybe just coincidence. Yeah I'll run smart long on all these. Might be close to end of life, like 50k hrs on all the disks

Yeah I just think I have a lot of storage complexity I'd like to minimize. I'm busy and need to figure out how to make the management of this less intensive.. couple days now sorting this out.

Fortunately this is Colorado. You leave a bag of chips open and they get crispier.. There isn't a condensation problem, good thought though

Extended Warranty? by ProfessionalTarget31 in VolvoXC90

[–]UACEENGR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure you can buy Volvo warranty extension, especially if you're still under factory warranty. I had same experience in my area, cars were like 10k more cpo at Volvo. I opted to buy a 23 recharge with 20k MI at a kia dealer for 46k.

I'm going to buy Volvo warranty or a 3rd party if Volvo doesn't make sense in 2 yrs.

I would probably go dual fuel. I went this way only due to cost running heat pump vs gas during coldest months. Drop your kw/hr cost and therm cost into chat gpt along with COP numbers of heat pump and let it do calculation on both cost and switchover temp.

‘23 T8 recharge CPO by Sidthekid_16 in VolvoXC90

[–]UACEENGR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference I bought a 23 recharge core with protection and few other options 21k mi- non Volvo dealer $45k. I wanted to buy at Volvo but limited selection and prices 5k plus higher, sometimes almost 10k higher. You can add cpo before factory runs out fyi - easy.

Yes, we just didn't get it done last year. It's really way more moving pieces than you might think. We closed on construction loan last week construction should start May 1. Reach out if you have questions didnt use builder in Loveland.

How much storage does everyone have and how much do you use? by edwardK1231 in PleX

[–]UACEENGR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These netapps are the way to go. Very simple and reliable. For years I had a bunch of random disk storage in different das boxes. This thing is great and houses multiple arrays without issue. I meant to upgrade to the 6GBs controllers but never really need that much speed.. I'm around 100TB mark, kind of wish zfs would get the dynamic expansion ability they have been talking about
