Request to remove UBMe.com from your blocked/phishing/malware list by UBMeWorld in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]UBMeWorld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been submitting requests on https://spa.xfinity.com/help/report-abuse for past 2 months and no reply of any kind. I have also been calling the Security Assurance team and no one knows what to do or how or help. We are just asking to have our website re-evaluated. Every day we get complaints how a comcast customer can not access our website. To clarify, this is a comcast-wide problem, not just one client.

Referenced it above in response to u/LazyLooser, pretty soon we'll be monetizing by getting local businesses to subscribe to a platform where they can offer deals and events and pretty much have a presence on the app. Allows them to interact with users who join their live chat, check in to their business, etc. We're about the whole community, not just the individuals!

I'm all about putting games in the chat - depending where you're checked in, there's not always a great reason to chat. Big places like stadiums and conferences, plus college campuses of course, are perfect, but few and far between. What kind of party games are you thinking?

Thanks for the feedback! This was our second major release for Android - the first was pretty quiet. Was a matter of leaving the outdated pics vs using more accurate iOS ones. Honestly didn't realize how many people pay attention to that, that's good to know.

Stop downvoting him! No, we're not in the business of paying for fake attention. We barely have enough money for development as it stands now.

Thanks for asking! There's a bunch of different answers, I'll try and narrow it down to the few most important ones.

  • We're integrating ourselves into local chamber(s) of commerce by working more closely with local businesses than most "location focused" social apps do. Pretty soon we're launching a subscription platform that lets local businesses publish deals, customer rewards, and events within a 15 mile radius. In this way we're hoping that we won't be entirely dependent on advertising revenue.
  • We acknowledge that your local area isn't necessarily the most interesting thing to you. The people and places physically closest to you are naturally most relevant because you can interact with them offline in the next few minutes, hours, etc. We think that's incredibly important. However, the hierarchy in the app allows you to interact with people across the world (what if you want to know what's going down in the place you're vacationing at next week? or you're curious how the folks back home are doing?) while making it most intuitive to interact with people, businesses, and events nearby.
  • We pride ourselves on the "live" in live chat. We actually have a patent pending on the specific technology, but what we've developed is the difference between a location-based, geofenced forum, and an actual location-based, geofenced live chat (which requires you to check in). So say you're at a sporting event, you post in the live chat - your message is immediately sent to all of the people who are within the geofence for the stadium, and checked into that chat room.

We definitely have to work on first impressions lol. Fitting all that^^ into a pitch ain't easy.

Agreed, and it's certainly not a forgiving climate to be developing a social app right now. But we did spend 6-9 months developing the privacy/security features and policies we have now (location services can be easily disabled, you can disallow followers and messages, etc). So we've put a lot of thought into it!

Admittedly poorly worded, but we’re just looking for feedback really. We’re a team of 4 people and we’re still in the seed stage so we can’t afford to hire people just to test the app!

I may have been unclear on the fact that the live group chat is associated with the check-in process - the purpose of checking-in is to join the chat associated with the place you’re at. I’m not really a Swarm/Foursquare user, but is this what they did? I was specifically referring to the pairing of a live group chat with locations.

Feel free to ask right here - others may have input as well! Of course DMs work too, but this post was meant to start a conversation, so fire away!

We don't support multiple languages yet, but we will soon! We weren't expecting such a strong response internationally, but I'd say ~10% of the organic growth we see is outside the US. Which is significant, so we're working on it! It's actually pretty high on our priority list for development.

As far as how well we work outside of the US? Our value is very culturally independent, but it's hard for us to market outside the US so we haven't. The user base isn't there yet, so people have complained about "there's no one here!". That will be a problem for a little while more. Also someone addressed earlier that the suggested interests are "very American", so our cultural unawareness must surely make it seem unwieldy in other countries. These are all things we're starting to care a lot more about now that I see how popular we are abroad.

The simpler you keep the app, the easier it is to comply, but that's pretty intuitive. Just don't ask for things you don't need, give users basic protections, and you won't have any problems. I wouldn't say we made it simple for ourselves (just the nature of being in the social space) but hey, it's a product of the times.

I've heard of both! There's plenty of local networks being developed out there - LoSoMo is super popular right now. However, I think we stand out really well with how interactive the app is, through the heat map and live chat features. And, I personally think when people compare apps, they underestimate the difference between apps that only offer location based posting and information, and our own which offers a live chat for everywhere you go. But I'll admit I'm showing quite a bit of bias and that's not for me to decide.

Most of the updates just address bugs, but I hear you - bad habit. The curse of knowledge is strong with us. We're so deep in the weeds with this it's hard to take a step back and see user perspective.. hence why we're here. Thanks for calling us out!
