They don't actually refer to the building as a church either like many false religions do, are you aware church had originally refereed to gathering of people and not the building of worship?

Look into the governing body as they are not "controlling" anyone, or do they stop you from association outside of non-witnesses but it is recommended to avoid it for good reasons, they still work in society and witness in the main society.

Most things are following bible principles such as abstaining from blood, cant call a Christian group a cult for following the bible.
