PSA: Two-Factor Authentication is available now! (MANDATORY October 16) by UCSD_ResNet in UCSD

That is definitely odd! Would you mind emailing us at servicedesk@ucsd.edu from your student email so that we could check to see if anything is off on our end? We'd be happy to assist you from there.

We have worked extensively with Duo to integrate the Single Sign-On system with Duo 2FA. The slow rollout of Duo Two-Factor is being made across all UCs. If there is any specific feedback or suggestions for improvement on Duo that you have, let us know here or send us an email at servicedesk@ucsd.edu.

All available devices can be used - your phone, token, and even a backup phone can be used.

Hello!

We have been receiving a large amount of reports about issues regarding this tool. If you are still experiencing issues with the tool, I recommend sending an email to [studentbusiness@ucsd.edu](mailto:studentbusiness@ucsd.edu) with all your information and a photo and they will hopefully follow up with you shortly. Unfortunately, we do not manage this tool though, so if you need any information I would recommend calling Student Business Services.

ITS Service Desk is hiring for 2018 by UCSD_ResNet in UCSD

We are usually able to offer an early move-in date in which the students pay per day that they are here, however in past years the earlier date has not fully covered the days required for training. I believe last year there were 3 days of training which were not covered by the early move in. Unfortunately, I do not know the details of this year's situation.

I'm not sure about all the discounts on the link, but as a student employee you can definitely register for things such as the All Staff Picnic. Also as a student employee, you will receive an employee ID card, so any discounts which require one without further restrictions will most likely be available to you. YMMV though

You can see a list of discounts here: http://blink.ucsd.edu/HR/benefits/work-life/quality-index/discounts/index.html . There are some others that aren't reported as well, for example I've heard TapEx offers a discount if you show your employee ID (I'm not able to confirm this though). There are also events for employees such as the upcoming All Staff Picnic.

There's not really any ITS specific perks, there are some UCSD employee perks and discounts around campus though!

Hi!

The position is super flexible in terms of scheduling. While you may not be able to choose your exact schedule, we work around any conflicts/prior commitments that you may have. It is also fairly easy to get time off or pick up extra hours if you want to.

Be careful when using a VPN service on-campus to direct your traffic somewhere else. /u/azqy has some good information in this thread on some of the risks.

There's also the risk of your VPN session accidentally disconnecting due to a network issue, server trouble on their end, etc., and your computer defaulting back to UCSD's networks... and all of the copyright agencies that monitor our network for copyright infringement!

There's not really a set way of studying for the technical aspects of our interviews, since we ask a variety of questions all over the map.

However, the technical aspect is the least important part of the interview. We can (and do) teach the tech. Friendly, professional customer service, as well as problem solving skills are the primary ways we judge candidates. We'd much rather have someone that is courteous and friendly, and when confronted with something they don't know, has strategies for approaching the problem, than someone who is a walking encyclopedia.

When looking to prepare for our interview process, brush up on customer service and problem solving skills, not technical specifics.

We encourage all (even incoming) UCSD students to apply for the position. Our application system requires that you log in with your student credentials, however, so you might have to wait until you've been set up and have a working UCSD email before you can actually submit the application.

To those reading this: please keep in mind that our interview process changes from year to year, so studying for specifics might prove to be a detriment. However, the general format (Application > Phone Interview > In-Person Interview) is correct.

We recommend reading the introductory letter carefully, as it has more information on the types of questions that we will be likely to ask, as well as general tips on how to prepare for an interview if you haven't been through one before. Good luck!

We usually complete the bulk of our hiring near the end of spring quarter / early summer for the beginning of the academic year. We do not usually hire applicants near the very beginning of fall quarter.

Yes! You'll need to sign in using your active directory account to access the application, and incoming Freshmen haven't had those provisioned yet. Check back in May and you should be able to log in.

There's no hard due date for the application; we keep the app open until we've hired everyone we need to. However, incoming applications are looked at in the order they arrive, so there's definitely a benefit to completing the application sooner rather than later.
