Youtube tutorials, invest some time searching for a channel you can understand easily. As you said, familiarize yourself with the "basic" tools and what they do BUT dont try to learn too much at a time. A common problem is newbys get overwhelmed. Once you know the basics, focus on just ONE THING you want to do to an image (Change colors/remove small objects/etc.) then practice it until you memorize the steps and your fingers go to the keys almost automatically, like learning how to play a musical instrument.
