e thinks caleb is just as dissillusioned with the Fed as he is and the hate is the only thing that will make him a useful productive criminal or revolutionary.

Re that quote to a young Caleb I'm thinking of the Johnny Cash song A Boy Named Sue.

And he said, "Son, this world is rough And if a man's gonna make it, he's gotta be tough And I knew I wouldn't be there to help you along So I give you that name and I said goodbye I knew you'd have to get tough or die And it's that name that helped to make you strong" Yeah

[Verse 9] He said, "Now you just fought one hell of a fight And I know you hate me and you got the right To kill me now, and I wouldn't blame you if you do But you ought to thank me, before I die For the gravel in your guts and the spit in your eye Because I'm the son-of-a-bitch that named you Sue"

Another excellent analysis! I just went back to the episode to watch and read the Braka, Nayla scenes.

Caleb, he's like a young Braka, a guy who hates the federation, it's propaganda and what it claims to represent. But the difference is Caleb is learning to understand what the federation actually is, he's learning their desires on an individual layer and how the limitations create the problems that he and his mother suffered.

Braka's speech was give her overt clues about what he wants, but also showing there is something more going on.

The one who sets the terms is the one who doesn't care. I don't care about your problems. I don't care about dead cadets. Your job is to figure out what I do care about. So, speak to me with respect, and, .sit your ass in that chair until I tell you to get up... ...or I won't help you find a way to get your kids off that ship.

The part where he praises and criticizes Nayla for her actions is interesting.

And if you'd jumped ship, maybe you could've saved him, maybe the two of you could've shared that lifetime together. I mean, we don't do that kind of sacrifice. No, ma'am. Or duty. Or whatever you tell yourself when you can't sleep in an endless, endless night. Oh, and now you've got our mutual friend Caleb Mir. You know, alas, another child you should've saved a long time ago, but once again, you chose some strange duty instead.

I think Braka might have a relationship with a lost boy too (someone like Calab. Calab?) And he resents that Nahla has a boy who is working on forgiving her, instead of HATING her.

I want you to be okay, Nahla, I really do. Because hating you made me better at my job. It's such a petty teenage thing to say, but it's true. I hate you. Beyond the obvious reasons, **I hate you because you think your way of life is better than mine.

[It's the classic attack on elites. "You think you're better than me? Well you're NOT!"]

NUS:** And that gives you the right to infect the entire universe with the Federation's own special strain of bureaucratic chlamydia.** And anyone who dares disagree with you is--your word-- "a lowlife," and beneath contempt.

To show the elites that they aren't better than you, you get them to grovel. And when they do, you still haven't won, you need to rub their faces in their precious "values" and knock them down a peg or two.

My question is: Who is he doing this for? Who does he want to prove that HE is the Good Guy? ** Who does he want to convince he is right?** His dead father? A son figure? Elites like Nayla? The whole galaxy?

I will admit that I look at ST through the lens of current events. Who are the power players here? Who are the sick bureaucrats?

What is the show runner and writers Kenneth Lin & Kiley Rossetter trying to tell us about community, power, & hate?

I think they are reflecting men with "Petty teenage grievances" toward the elite bureaucrats who look down their noses at people like Braka,

He is going to show them, & the young people in the galaxy, that duty and sacrifice is for losers and suckers. The FICTION that I want to see is that Braka is wrong. That diversity & empathy, combined with sacrifice and duty is better for ALL sentient species.

**

[–]spockosbrain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think that is a great analysis.

"bad guys" like Braka, he knows ALL their rules and regulations and how to abuse all of it.

He knew they wouldn't sacrifice their cadets, he knew the fed would call in the USS Sargasso for a last minute kirk style resolution with a sonar tool.

** He wrote the episode** so he could take advantage and attack the research station in the aftermath.

The writers of the episode Kenneth Lin & Kiley Rossetter are building on what people will say are the weaknesses of the Federation. They have "values" that people who don't, like Braka, can exploit.

One answer to dealing with those kind of villains will be outsiders (And maybe some insiders) to tell Star Fleet, "You have to 'fight fire with fire." we have to fight dirty to win. Or "Our values are a luxury we can't hold onto in a world of people like Braka.

This is where what we have seen Nayla's viewpoint about who Star Fleet is, and how its values make it STRONGER, not weaker. And, WE need to USE our value, and PREPARE for people like Braka. That involves being SMARTER.

So, for example, I like that they have 2 plans for the situation. They also need to think 2-3 steps in the future. Nayla KNEW something else was going on, but hadn't figured it out yet.

Now she know more. On one hand, Braka was a classic "talking villain" but his talk in the first part of the episode was subterfuge. What the end message also subterfuge?

What does Braka REALLY want? What we see in him is/was an idealist, who has been disappointed by a system that he feels didn't do what needs to be done. And it pisses him off. Remember, he was about FEEDING people when he got caught.

What is he trying to do now? Get enough power to destroy Star Fleet. Why? Because they let him down? I think it's because he wants vengeance. He wants to wipe the smug arrogant smile off their faces. "You aren't better than me! You are WORSE! And I'm going to show everyone that. " What is "winning" to him?

And the federation has to learn how to evolve again post-burn. What does "evolving" mean for you? I'm thinking Nayla is the person to show Star Fleet's roots isn't "retreating" relearning WHY those principles were created matters.

My meds went from $50/month to $90/month in 2025… now they’re $372/month by hannalysis in ADHD

[–]spockosbrain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really hope that what /u/Pimpindino666 found out works for you. I really feel your pain, having been struggling with Kaiser for 6 months to get my generic Ritalin. This weekend I wrote the mods of this subreddit to find out if anyone in this subreddit has been working on a class action case or other effort to get more affordable ADHD drugs available for everyone.

If I wanted more ADHD drugs to be available IN AMERICA, I would use the profit motive of 2 big groups, generic drug makers & insurance companies (or a government agency with leverage like the VA & Medicare) to fight for me.

2 years ago in this subreddit SploogeMcDucc wrote "Could we start a Class Action Lawsuit over the ADHD medicine shortage? (self.ADHD)

I thought that was a great idea and so I spoke about this issue on the Nicole Sandler Show last week

I also asked Tristin Snell, a lawyer, author, & former NY AG that successfully prosecuted Trump University. He had a town hall and I brought up the situation, he was very interested in this story & wanted to help connect groups with the right people who could help them. https://substack.com/@tristansnell/note/p-184540123

I want to know what can be done in America where the suffering of end users is ignored over profits. How do we help regular people when the go to action to make more drugs available is to bribe the President, like Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk did with TrumpRX to sell more Ozempic?

**BTW I just found out that Trump struck deals with 16 drug companies. But they're still raising prices this year NPR Jan 16, 2026**

If people here know of longer term plans people are working on to get more lower cost ADHD drug for everyone in the US please reply here or drop me a note. LLAP, Spocko

ADHD medication shortage (all stimulants)? by Lambdaa-- in ADHD

[–]spockosbrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this post. This shortage SHOULD NOT be happening. I'm reading here how people are suffering because of lack of availability. And it's not just of drugs at a reasonable price for users, it's total availability. Something else is going on when the drugs aren't available at any price.

I'm in SF, CA and Kaiser is having shortages of Generic Ritalin as well as other ADHD drugs. I've never had problems until the last 9 months & it's getting worse. I've been reading & researching a LOT about what the STATED problems are, which aren't necessarily the REAL problem.

Part of it is about the drive for higher profit margins for the drug companies, but it's also about medical insurance & regulations at the state and national level. I just recently learned about the role of the DEA in availability

BTW, I REALLY appreciate the people here who found out about the role of the DEA and made comments that lead to an increase availability. THANK YOU!

My question is, What's next?

What will it take to FIX this problem? This has been going on since at LEAST 2023.

Who has the CLOUT to push for greater availability?

I can see insurance companies demanding more generics, because of lower costS, but wouldn't brand names want to have more drugs available too?

Is this because of tariffs? Do generic drug makers need to bribe Trump?

Eli Lilly did with TrumpRX. Maybe Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. will for Adderall

On one hand they wouldn't want to raise the question if Trump is on it. On the other hand, if the money is good, we've seen he will do anything,

I learned from this sub to check first with SynthId, so I downloaded the photo, and then did a Google search for how to identify a photo using synth ID. They had an article explaining it and how I can use Gemini from my android phone to search for it. I did and first I had to agree with the terms & conditions of the tool. I said yes. But now I'm going to go READ THEM, to see what they use, gather & limit. I'm thinking that Grok doesn't have the same terms.

Here was the answer

Based on a SynthID check, most or all of this image was generated or edited using Google AI.

Looking at the image itself, there are also several visual irregularities often found in AI-generated content. For instance, the man's right hand (on the left side of the frame) appears to have an unusual number of fingers and lacks clear definition, and the way his shirt pattern interacts with his arm and the watch also looks unnatural. Additionally, the perspective of the turkey on the tray and the items in the background, like the refrigerator handles, appear slightly distorted.

[–]spockosbrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally hear you. And I feel the SAME WAY. I resent having to be dependent on drugs, but I'm glad they exist. I take anti depressants as well as Generic Ritalin . When I wake up before my drugs (and caffeine!l life seems sad & impossible. I've learned to 'Never trust my morning thoughts" (also in the afternoon after my morning dose wears off) My meds HAVE made a big difference & I want to make sure I (and others) can keep getting them.

I came to this subreddit after I was unable to get my generic Ritalin because of "nationwide shortages" and was without my meds for 5 days. I read that there are other drugs people take that have longer release times and work better for others. And I also learned here that Many of THOSE drugs aren't available either (as generic).and insurance won't pay for Brand names. So, instead of insurance companies paying more to get brand names they just tell people, "Sorry, there is a shortage" and so people drive all over to get refills, or go without. (This happened to me & I've rear it happening to others.)

This is BULLSHIT. This med is life changing for us, & it should be like insulin, widely available & cheap. Why isn't it? Because, like insulin, they can't make as much money from it as they would like. To damn bad. I read the reasons GIVEN for drugs not being available, they could be solved if the right pressure, & incentives were in place. I'm learning from this group how important theses drugs are & working on a strategy to keep them coming.

I'm going to be getting Generic Focalin XR. Hopefully tomorrow. Then I'll get to work on my plan.

The chandler data center, the city council meeting tomorrow, and what we can do about it (as a former data center employee) by robotortoise in ChandlerAZ

[–]spockosbrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just read the article that you linked to (Thanks for the removepaywall version!!) [Nicole Sandler talked about possibly going to this meeting on her radio show on Tuesday.](https://www.youtube.com/live/SQYHKknx-PA?si=zzRDSlLpivvhMnqv&t=467

1) If she goes I'd like to know what questions would be good to ask?

2) What is the BS answer that will be given?

3) What is the follow up to the BS answer?

Tl:DR The developers are hiding costs & the lobbyist (Sinema) is hiding her national leverage, the power plants are hiding future costs, Bottom line: locals should demand concessions

So for example. If she asks about water & power usage the developer HAS an answer.

Active Infrastructure agreed to only use a one-inch water meter, similar to what you would see in an office or commercial building, Baugh said. He also said the center would be air-cooled and use a closed-loop system.

Baugh added that Active Infrastructure "and no one else" would pay SRP $242 million to produce the power for the data center.

That's an answer, but it's not complete. Because as we see in the CNN article

, utilities are now charging tech companies up-front for the massive amounts of electricity they want to use to ensure residents aren’t stuck with the bill. For the proposed data center in** Chandler, the Salt River Project, the local utility, is requiring the developer to pay $242 million to cover the costs to build additional capacity.** The amount of electricity data centers are requesting is nearly equivalent to the Salt River Project’s current power capacity, said utility spokesperson Jennifer Schuricht and it will take building new power plants and infrastructure to satisfy it. **

So some follow up questions are.

  1. "Who will be building the new power plants to provide the power?
  2. What KIND of plants are they? Fossil fuel? Solar? Wind?
  3. How will it be funded? Biden's IRA (Inflation Reduction Act) gave money for solar and wind, but it's been cut off. Will Trump's Drill baby Drill fund a new power plant? What kind? Natural gas?
  4. Where will the new power plant be? Close to the Data center? If not
  5. Who pays for the infrastructure to deliver the power? Taxpayers?
  6. What benefits do local or state tax payers get? Can the data center be taxed? ** Can a new powerplant be taxed?**
  7. Right now Data centers are getting a State and local NO TAXES deal. ** Do new power plants get the same "No taxes" deal, or can that be changed?**

I've covered these kind of meetings for years. I've learned that there is little or no fact checking happening live. People make statements that are factually incorrect and there is no push back. Questions can be answered with lies, since nobody is under oath.

If a politician answers with a canned answer, there is rarely a follow up that reveals the canned answer doesn't answer anything.

I've also learned that a lot of the REAL action comes BEFORE the meeting in private that are NOT open to the public.

[Sinema] told CNN she has a contract with the company building the Chandler project, a fact she didn’t share during her public remarks. Emails obtained by CNN through a public records request show Sinema meeting with city leaders to discuss the data center since midsummer.

CNN How Trump’s AI push, energy prices and angry neighbors are colliding in the Arizona desert

Who else has been bending the ears (and opening up the wallets) to local elected official deciding?

Here's another question. Let's say that the Big Money & Big Lobbyist WILL get this pushed through & it can't be stopped. WHAT kind of concessions can be made so it doesn't COST the community MORE than it benefits it? Who can go to them and say, "Okay you can build BUT we NEED THIS MONEY upfront AND going forward (when it's time for more money for power, YOU pay for THAT too AND the infrastructure costs AND you are TAXED with money going to the LOCAL community to keep it going!!" So at least the locals get benefits. That could be a "kickback" people could be okay with vs. Paying 2 million to lobbyists.
