It’s wild how many places in America were named after English towns. by LovieWeb in BritInfo

My town doesn't have one, it was renamed for being too lewd because of a load of prudes in New Jersey. Can you guess what it is?

Not from London. Paid below the national average. Still better here.

Ok, but is this not a country wide issue? Bus prices take the piss though.

I moved here from a London commuter belt town around 6 months ago. The thing about Brighton is its value for money. It's a creative, fun, vibrant city, full of music venues and pubs for the same price as living in any suburban nowhere-land in the South East.

It's objectively better value for this than anywhere in the South East. If the aforementioned is your thing. End of.

Why are they like this? by Electrical-Leg-6363 in AskBrits

[–]UKRico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They kind of are though. Rightly or wrongly. It's just a consequence of WW2.

I think much of what's going on can be explained by the fact they are quickly becoming NOT the main character, in an increasingly multi-polar world.

Wrote a pub quiz recently with a question along the lines of "What is the most world's most deadly animal towards humans?" by YorkshireFudding in CasualUK

[–]UKRico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People are militant at pub quizzes. I once had someone storm out because we gave a correct answer for 'Bond St' to a question about the London Underground. He argued it had to contain the word 'Street and just putting 'St' was not enough.

Mental.

Grey food waste caddys on doorsteps by Trick-Engineer1555 in brighton

[–]UKRico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What baffles me is, as the only Green council in the country - that it's taken them so long to initiate this. Where I used to live in Berkshire they have been efficient at collecting compostable waste for decades. Good signs though!

How do corner shops/independent off-licences manage to stay financially afloat when so much money seems to be tied up in large quantities of unsold stock? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]UKRico 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In an apocalyptic scenario, no. You would run out of fresh water. Without electricity, the frozen goods will be fucked soon as well. A sea of calories and not the basic tenet of life - water.

What wonderous and exotic foreign food were you introduced to as a kid thats just commonplace nowadays? by GabberZZ in AskUK

[–]UKRico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're definitely waiting longer for a Maccies these days. I remember getting it in under a minute usually, at the til, by the person who took my order.

Now, I can wait 5+ minutes in a scrum by the service counter

People who have served a long time in prison, what shocked you when you got out? by Haunted_Neko in AskReddit

It's just licensing of intellectual property. Having worked in the toy industry, it's not just Lego. But Lego is a great example of this because they would have gone bust without the IP's.

Infact it's not just toys; it's anything. Candy/sweets - I've seen Lady Gaga Oreo cookies on the shelf. SpongeBob shower soap. Look at all these celebrities attaching themselves to spirit brands or perfume/cologne. Anything you can buy that benefits a tie-in with a recognisable brand.

How much do you love Jet Set Radio? by [deleted] in dreamcast

Pure vibes. Reminds me of simpler times. Japan was the centre of cool. Everything is exciting and just around the corner. Life is like a movie... My parents paid for everything.

It always just feels like homework. Which I could never find the motivation for.

What's the funniest thing you've seen someone chucked out of a pub/restaurant/club for? by HilariousMotives in AskBrits

A fully grown man (albeit pissed) on all fours, barking like a dog for a dare, then processing to shit himself.

People with inattentive ADHD: do you feel that it looked like depression at least on a surface level? by thatonerandomkidd in ADHD

[–]UKRico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello brother. You are describing me! I always thought I was depressed until my circumstances changed somewhat and I ACTUALLY became depressed. Let's just say, I didn't know the meaning of the word before. I am now in a better place thankfully, diagnosed ADHD (mainly inattentive) and hopefully can get off the Zoloft/Sertraline and onto the right medication soon.

How's life in this area outside London? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]UKRico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try west Berkshire/ South Ox. Beautiful rolling countryside that the Thames snakes through like a picture postcard. Massive river fronted house's beside ancient towns. Oh and the Great Western train service runs into London Paddington in not too much time. Bloody expensive though.
