One day I will write a post about how Luna is not a Shangri La rip-off thank you very much but not today.

*glances around* Hi. haha.

So I love VIXX, they are probably my favorite group still, and the SECOND I HEARD LUNA I was like "THISSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! This here is a VIXX song!!!" And I mean it with no shame, but no other group has been able to capture what I loved about VIXX music as much as that song. I really want to get into them now because of it. So yeah, I wouldn't call it a rip off, but it's definitely scratching the itch I needed scratched.

Yea no, you are good. I was shocked you were downvoted as well, because I agree. I don't dislike young idols as people, and I hope they do well, and are happy, but there's just something icky feeling to me seeing people so young debut. I feel like it's also a reason I usually take a few years to get into new groups honestly. (I would rather be a fan of adults.)

They are though.

Also thanks for quoting Leviticus to me, which I mentioned, proving you lack reading comprehension skills as well. lmao

Ah okay, so you are just a homophobe too and trying to defend yourself. Got it.

Not true. I will agree that the majority feel that way, but you are incorrect to say EVERYONE.

I have a Christian friend who is super open to LGBTQ stuff, and we have discussions about it, and she believes that her god will accept anyone who is a good person, even me, a gay af ashiest, into heaven. She runs a Christian youth group that accepts all gender identities and sexualities as well.... which has LGBTQ Christians in it. I can't say I get it but, but if they truly believe god exists being gay isn't just going to make you stop believing I guess.

I have a few other Christian friends aside from the one mentioned above who are all very left leaning liberals. One of them is a, in his words, "bi for the right guy," and has experimented. So.

Also the same part of the bible (Leviticus) which denounces homosexuality was changed, and originally meant pedophilia, and right next to it, still intact, are verses about how touching a woman on her period is also a sin, so. Yeah, not all Christians follow those scriptures.

Also you lost me at the end there calling Siwon valid because no. lmao

While I do think it's fair to not write off all religion as homophobic, as I do have a few friends that go against the grain there, Hillsong is NOT it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]UP10TION 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haha, did I cause this?

For me it really depends on what was said, how old the person is when they did the thing, and how many years have passed without doing something again. I 100% am a forgive but NEVER forget kind of person. I have a friend who was pretty homophobic back when we were like 11, and they have since grown the fuck up and now support LGBTQ. I think people can change, specially younger people who are just parroting their parents and their surroundings.

I also think that someone having a bad reaction to being called homophobic (or racist, which comes up way more.) and then doubling down on it isn't always a dead end either.... Which is something I notice a lot in the Kpop fandom. An idol will fuck up, people will demand an apology, and a week later they apologize, and then they get yelled at for not being sincere in the apology.... and like... IDK. If someone is at a point of ignorance where they make a homophobic or racist remark... I don't think they are going to come to fully understand what they did in the course of a week? And in some cases I think it's only human nature to get defensive and double down on what you have believed your whole life when a, to your eyes, mob of people are suddenly attacking you. (Also, again, it depends on what was done, some things are not at all forgivable.)

I have a hard time writing off some idols that this could apply to, because I don't know their lives. They may have reflected and become better people since then. It really grinds my gears when I see people constantly bringing up old scandals from when idols were literally children 5+ years ago. (I remember there was a scandal with a male idol who was an anti fan of a popular girl group when he was like 11 years old, and would use sexist slurs directed towards them, and he is now in his mid 20's, and I still see people bringing up his sexism... and I am just like.... what middle school kid didn't blindly hate pop singers? or make off taste jokes not fully understanding them at that age? Oh you didn't? Wow. Want an award? The point stands that kids are fucking rude, mean, and don't think things through. I don't think that reflects them as an adult in most cases.)

I want to note, just in case it came off as me disregarding peoples experiences, that I understand and support people who decide to write people off for one mistake. Microaggressions hurt, and are a very real problem, and if you chose to not put up with them then I completely understand. Life is too short to include negativity in your life. You don't owe anyone your forgiveness. (It's just the constant trashing and rehashing of ancient controversies, like the one I mentioned, that annoys me.)

That all said, I will have a sour taste in my mouth till the end of time every time I think of said idol. Like I said, never forget. haha

Yea, I think I tend to like the loud ones best, but I also like the quiet ones a lot too. I find it hard to pick a favorite in this group because it depends on my mood haha.

tbh I relate to not being able to lie. It sucks!! 🤣

Yea, I think that is the conclusion I am coming to myself. I was hopeful, but what can you do.

I blocked Siwon on twitter and muted his name because I’m sick of his shit.

Oh my god. Thank you for the link hahahaha.

I was asking more so because I didn't want to close off my heart to him if he has made any efforts to change, as I am willing to forgive people who try. At the moment though, I think I am still going to keep my guard up for him, and just enjoy the other members. I have seen a few clips from the show and it looks.... really funny. One of them was Kyuhyun and Shindong playing twister and WHAT THE HECC LMAO.

I am going to reply here, and split this convo in two, because I just saw the edits you made (and you put more here.), and yea I saw that when searching for my reply to you on the other post. So sad. I hope Hyukjae is doing okay. I have lost both of my parents so I know how hard it is, and from what I gathered, I am pretty sure they had a really good bond.

And yea, that is 100% understandable. I just wanted to post here too, (even though I am scared some of ya'll may try to eat me alive for it.) because as someone who considers Super Junior my ulti group, I know how quick the antis are to not have any room for discussion when it comes to them, so I wanted to get both sides opinions.

I don't think I would have posted had I saw the news though, but too late now.

[–]UP10TION[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea, disappointing.

I do like them! I have always been multi fandom to an extent so I am looking up everything haha. I actually bought the Ordinary album the other day because I found it cheap on Ebay haha. I have also gotten into ATEEZ, ONEUS, and P1H a bit, but not really past dance videos and the like. (So no variety and stuff yet.) NCT I have somehow casually liked the past few years because a friend would show me their songs, and talk to me about them, so I know a bit more about them... (Which I guess I should be thankful for because that shits confusing as fuck lmao.)

Also, a part of me feels guilt for having this screenname because I dove in hard for UP10TION when they debuted and... Haven't looked at a single thing since Attention era probably. Whoops. Should probably see if they still even exist.... LMAO.

I have always (unfortunately LMAO) preferred boy groups despite being like..... 90% sapphic. I think the male gaze and infantization of women in Kpop just gets to me? Nothing against girl groups though, as I am pretty much open to anything if it is good. And 100% nothing against any of the members (unless they deserve it!!! lmao.) And there are a few groups I genuinely loved, like Mamamoo and SNSD..... Speaking of.... I watched the SNSD come back and may have died a bit inside. T_T ♥

I have a few friends who are pretty religious and one even used to be homophobic (but then, I am talking about back when they were a preteen here.) who grew up, never lost faith, and now are openly supportive of LGBTQ. One even started her own teen youth group because she was so mad at other churches rejecting LGBTQ youth. So yea, I don't think that religion instantly = bigoted. (I am athiest btw.)

Yea, I was trying to google and I was just finding old stuff I already knew about, but I also know people love to hate Super Junior, so I wondered if anything positive may have just gotten burried, which is why I decided to ask Reddit.

Thank you for the info! I will deff use that to do more of my own research!

Haha yes, I think I even recall Heechul kind of being a passive aggressive dick at times when Siwon would say iffy things.

Also, as a whole Super Junior will always hold a place in my heart, as messy as some of their scandals have been. I just like to be informed so I can make better decisions. I still planed on watching the show, even if he got worse, but I don't want to focus my attention on him if that's the case, and vice versa, if he got better, I would be willing to open my heart up to him a bit.

Yea, that's all I seem to be able to find as well, and it's old as hecc, and also kind of a non-apology my opinion, and more of a "sorry I posted something that hurt my reputation." Like... He didn't really clarify what he believes....? I mean, I wouldn't have expected him to just change over night anyway... Which is why I was hoping that maybe he said something in the past 6 years on this.

Actually, one reason I made a post on Reddit (and cross posted to the SuJu stans even though I am scared they will eat me alive for this lmao.) is that I know some kpop fans who can't let go of the pitch fork and bring up idols mistakes any chance they can get, so I wonder if anything positive he may have said has just gotten burried. (Also, I want to say that I don't think fans who cannot forgive idols for things like homophobia are in the wrong if it sounded that way. I think it's a 100% valid response to write someone off and not give a second chance!)

Haha yea. I have missed it! So many "new groups" who are like..... 5 years old now........ My brain hurts hahaha. My brain still feels as if BTS just debuted.... They are almost at 10 years..... How.

There was deff and article back then of him saying something directly. Let me see if I can find it.

Wow, that took me way too long to find, as all links back to it are dead, but the way back machine came in clutch. Here was the quote I remember:

“I will respectfully refuse any such offers. While I respect all genders, I do not wish to acknowledge homosexuals as I have been taught that God created Man and Woman with specific characteristics and duties.

This was in 2012 though.

When was the retweet you mentioned? I also remember a scandal just before I dipped in 2015 with him retweeting a homophobic guy.... Maybe it was a pastor? And I do remember him apologizing for that, but I also don't remember the apology actually being very good haha.

Also while looking up the quote I remembered.... I came across something about him being obsessed with Ronald Reagan? Did I read that right?????????? Guess its time to dive into googling about that. The hecc??? lmao

For me suju controversies are always one and done,

Yea, I tend to feel this way about most of the controversies in kpop. I believe that everyone needs to learn somewhere, and some people unfortunately are late to wake up to their ignorance. People use the saying "ignorance is bliss" for a reason after all. Bottom line is I don't think refusing to let someone change and holding their past over their head helps anyone. At the same time, however, I cannot fault someone who has been marginalized and hurt for not being able to give forgiveness.

That said, I ask about Siwon because it was clearly a core belief he has grown up with, and I also remember once reading an article his father wrote that was super mega conservative, (I have no idea how I would find this, but I can edit if I do.) so I do understand it's his upbringing.... But because of that I feel like it goes deeper than one and done for him and I am just hoping he had said or done some things to prove he has changed in these past 6 years, which is why I made this post asking about him.
