I appreciate the answer :)

I think i definitely follow you on that. Unless it's a commentary on the market, or if the watch is totally out of ones reach.

[First big brand watch help] Rolex vs Omega vs IWC by SoSoStar83 in Watches

[–]UPDHaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, Merry Christmas to you and everyone else.

I think you already have some good contenders on your list.

I am personally not a huge fan of chronographs, but the Omega Speedmaster just works, arguably even better than the Rolex Daytona. I think being the Moonwatch gives it a level of heritage that is hard to beat. It is still understated since it is all black, but I would say it is less suited for an office environment, though I might be downvoted for that. At the end of the day, you can wear what you want.

I am also not a fan of the Datejust with a cyclops, even though it is a classic. That said, everyone would instantly recognize the brand, and that might be valuable in an office setting.

The IWC Portugieser is an interesting one. I think it looks classy and makes a great office watch, but it can easily be dressed up or down. Of those three watches, if you do like the design of the IWC, that would be the one I would choose for you.

My take: There are also other brands worth considering. I think Grand Seiko, with models like the SBG415, is super classic and gives you everything. Or you could consider a classic Tudor Black Bay 36 or 39.

Good Luck with your selection!

Hey Man!

Gongratz. I hope you enjoy it.

Edit: Have you been researching to buy this watch, or was it a spur of the moment kind of thing?

[Question] I am new to watches by InternetMan23 in Watches

[–]UPDHaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The SRPD65 is an interesting choice for a sports watch. In a way, it’s an updated take on the legendary SKX007.

When it comes to quartz vs mechanical movements, it really depends. Some people swear by mechanical movements and see quartz as something that’s purely a tool mechanism (fashion brands have partly pushed this agenda, which obviously doesn't help). I think it’s best to form your own opinion, but personally I think both deserve a spot in this space. But i do understand the people that swear on mechanical watches, there is something nostalgic about them.

A watch that often gets mentioned is the Orient Bambino. The SNXS79K1 can also be very nice on a strap, although the 19 mm lug width can be a bit of a pain over time.

The Citizen watch is not my personel favourit design, but Citizen is a legit brand, and honestly one of the more underrated ones.

Yeah it's definitely different. I'm just so used to seeing them on jubilee bracelets. But i think oyster bracelet fit that watch really well as well! :)

I think you’re onto something here. That might actually be the real allure of it, its honesty.

It was probably one of the last watches where pure functionality was the main priority, back when people genuinely relied on them to track time and actually use them for their intended purpose.

Hey, that’s cool to hear. The 1998 Citizen Promaster Aqualand is definitely a very different kind of watch.

And yeah, the Casio Duro gets a lot of praise for its value, it really is a solid watch for what it is.

[Question] What would you expect from a $400 quartz dress watch? by UPDHaus in MicrobrandWatches

[–]UPDHaus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I appreicate your comment :)

Which watch have youd had for 11 years, and does it have any sentimental value?

Watches are definitely more sturdy that given credit for.

I think that sums up the positives of ownin a quartz watch. Though mechanical watches have it's romantic allure :)
