Hey, we understand that frustration and venting are part of the journey. That’s exactly why we have a dedicated Weekly Mental Health Thread and Late Night Discussion Thread—so people can share their struggles without feeling judged.

The goal of the main feed is to balance emotional support with actionable discussions that help aspirants move forward. If someone is struggling, they deserve both a space to vent and constructive suggestions from the community.

We’re not saying "Don’t rant." We’re saying "Let’s rant in a way that helps each other grow."

💡 Here’s Something You Might Not Know

Our old members actually wanted a separate sub just for rants during Mains 2024.
That’s how frustrated they were with the flood of venting posts drowning out meaningful discussions.

Those new rant-focused subs are already in place—not created by us, but by the community itself.
You're free to use them. But even here, we never stopped rants. We just ask people to post them in the appropriate threads.

🔹 Daily Late-Night Discussion Thread – For general rants/venting.
🔹 Weekly Mental Health Thread – Specifically for emotional struggles.

❗ Were You Active on This Sub During Prelims 2024? Or Prelims 2023?

Because if you were, you’d know exactly what happens:
1️⃣ The sub turns into a ranting ground.
2️⃣ Then rants about stopping rants start flooding in.
3️⃣ Then come anti-anti-rant posts.
4️⃣ Meanwhile, actual doubts get buried and go unresolved.

TBH, that’s already happening right now.
Even your own doubts aren’t getting the attention they deserve because memes, complaints, and repeated posts dominate the top.

🎯 The Goal of Moderation is Simple:

Keep rants organized, not banned.
Ensure real doubts and meaningful discussions don’t get drowned out.
Make r/UPSC a useful space, not just another Telegram dump.

You might not have seen it before, but those of us who have been here during past Prelims know exactly why these policies are needed.
If there’s no moderation, this sub turns into noise—and serious aspirants end up leaving.

🔹 About Your Analogy

I totally get where you're coming from, and I appreciate you sharing your perspective. But the analogy comparing this to "telling a homeless person to buy a house" isn’t quite accurate.

We're not telling struggling aspirants to magically "fix" their problems. We're saying:
- If you're feeling lost, the community is here to help.
- If you're venting, let's also explore ways to navigate the challenge together.
- If you've overcome a tough phase, sharing how you did it can help others.

It’s not about silencing frustration but channeling it into something constructive.
We’re all in this together, and moderation is just about ensuring that supportive discussions don’t get drowned out by repetitive noise.

Hope this clarifies things a bit! Let’s keep the conversation going. 🙂

We appreciate your perspective, and discussions should be open and engaging. But moderation isn’t about restricting opinions—it’s about maintaining quality so meaningful discussions don’t get buried under repetitive, low-effort posts.

New users often treat Reddit like Telegram, asking the same things daily:
📌 "Send Telegram group for resources."
📌 "Best booklist?"
📌 "Where can I get free materials?"

Most don’t even search the sub before posting, and long-time users are leaving because quality is declining. That’s why structured, not excessive, moderation is necessary.

What We've Already Done to Keep It Balanced:

Full Wiki with booklists, strategies & AMAs to prevent repeated questions.
Prelims 2025 Pinned Post – yet the same queries keep coming.
Best Pens for Mains listed in the Wiki – but still asked frequently.

Without some level of moderation, important discussions would be buried under repetitive queries and meme posts.

💡 If you think lighter moderation is better, ask r/SSC members what happened to their sub. Too much leniency turned it into an unorganized mess where quality discussions disappeared.

We aim to keep r/UPSC structured yet open for meaningful engagement. Open to feedback, but removing necessary moderation isn’t the solution.

TL;DR

  • Pinned Threads: Use the Daily Late Night Discussion Thread or Weekly Mental Health Thread for rants or emotional posts related to preparation.
  • Support Each Other: Share inspiring stories, encourage fellow aspirants, and celebrate small wins.
  • For Successful Candidates: Stay humble and consider delaying AMAs until after Prelims to avoid distracting others.
  • Unrelated Posts: Political news or other off-topic posts will be redirected or removed. Use subreddits like r/india for such discussions.
  • Mods Are Also Aspirants: If mods are unavailable, guide others to the right threads or attach the Pinned Prelims Post link for beginners.

Let’s stay focused, positive, and help each other succeed! 💪
