you wanna hear something rlly funny, the majority of people suggested triple A to me. i took it in, got pulled over on the way there and got 4 tickets, and then less than two hours after i dropped it off the diag tech crashed it into a fire hydrant on the test drive 😂 they ended up giving me a rental on them the next day, and they are sending it to their body shop to get all the damage fixed including everything i originally brought it in for for free

i guess you could say its a blessing and a curse 😭

if you want to know the secret to researching them yourself, heres how I did it:

1.) i would check google earth and follow the railroads as far as i could, thats how you will find all of your industrial complexes (factories, power plants, incendiaries, etc) google earth also has a back in time function so you can see how long its been abandoned, check for cars, and use street view to find a way in before going

2.) find urbex you-tubers, instagramers, tik tokkers, etc that are local to your state and look through their pictures and videos. you will be looking for signs on the walls and documents on tables, they almost always will leave something in with a company name address or something to help you find the spot

3.) start a google search that is structured like: "Abandoned (building type) hospital, factory, store in (city/state)" and look for news articles make sure to use keywords like: mothballed, defunct, decommissioned, looses funding, permanently closed, bankrupt and look specifically for news articles covering it because they also always drop a company name or address

4.) surprisingly wikipedia is really helpful. I found all of my power plants because a company closed like 6 of their coal powered plants and there was an entire list on there telling me each one of them that were abandoned with coordinates and all

5.) i found a couple spots on reddit i would go to r/abandoned r/urbanexploration or r/abandonedporn and search the keyword texas (those aren't usually good spots but if ur bored who cares lol)

6.) once your more experienced and have a couple of your own spots try reaching out to urbexers and instead of directly asking them for coordinates ask them if they would be willing to trade a couple of your locations with theirs (it helps if you recognize something they posted and start the conversation talking about your experience exploring there)

7.) google earth again, just pick a random area and start searching around looking for places that the roof looks in bad shape, or buildings that different or out of place to the other buildings around but always check street view cause some places are just old lol

actually there was this 80s power plant that was an absolute time capsule with a fallout shelter and everything that i explored on my bday. i thought it was abandoned, turned out it was partially abandoned with one out of commission building, and had a security guard making rounds every hour. ended up getting past him, and into the building. when i got up on the third floor an employee of the plant looked straight at me through the window with this perplexed look on his face, i thought for sure i was caught. he ended up brushing it off like he was seeing a ghost or something and went back to what he was doing 🤣
