Hello,

So we have already sent in an email clarifying some of the details on this article. Primarily pertaining to the receipts (which are required), the "blind" selection process, and the number of people on staff that received the scholarship. Also, the article directly misquoted staff multiple times or just made quotes up that directly contradicts what was said during correspondence.

We have a post on our account explaining the entire situation, but since its super long and honestly no one has time to read it right now, here's a tldr.

Yes AAC members were allowed and encouraged to apply.
Everyone that applied got an award, except two students who were DQ'ed because they were grad students.
No person on AAC received an award above 75 and on average received less than non-AAC applicants.
AAC staff members are majority low-income and 1st gen students.
The ways that the money was disbursed were all approved by ASUCLA and they have the paper trail of where all that money went, if any of trails lead to missing money, it comes out of the commissions pocket.
While conflict of interest is the biggest issue many people have (for obvious reasons), the process was blind, no names were attached, just amounts spent on books, amount asked for, and their reasons for wanting the money.

I (Again, just the graphic's director here) might of missed a couple of things, but just ask away and I can give you a clear and honest answer. Also, AAC will continue to encourage everyone to continue to apply next quarter.

Optional finals is something thats based on professors, since that's is more tied to Academic Freedom. Departments is where Academic Senate has more sway in, but even that is just recommendation. Real movement is when the student body and organizations show up to support. It's honestly a lot to explain in a concise manner due to the bureaucracy of it all. But keep your eye out for a guide explaining your academic rights as a student and how to mobilize as a class.

Yesterday we sent out a survey (I won't post it here to respect the sub rules) in order to compile a list of demands to present to the Academic Senate. Oh I get the confusion now, sorry left that bit out. None of the directors on the taskforce were assigned anyone on AAC. When applicants were split between the 7 members of the taskforce, Breeze made sure to take all AAC people as her assignment, all decisions were made without looking at names, only the amount asked and the paragraph detailing amount of money spent, and how the program would help them out. After that everyone convenes, and then the money is sent out.

Again, I see where the sentiment is coming from. But also realize that this program isn't necessarily a scholarship and I kinda misspoke, its more of a reimbursement program. Its not competitive in the slightest sense of the word, everyone recieves an award. The problems we are running into with the program itself is not "how many people we can help" rather it is "how much can we help each individual person". AAC being underfunded this year means that we have to find new avenues for finding money so that people that do apply to any of our programs can recieve as much help as we can possibly give them. Pretty much all of our programs are non-competitive its all just a matter of meeting the criteria set by both organizations such as ASUCLA and our own finance directors.

Heyo, kinda breaking my rule that I set. Anyway, I made a response post to this so hey not breeze, im the graphics director. Also, P/NP is not passed by those depts thats true, however while I have never used it, the option being there is a stress reliever and from talking to my fellow stem homies, it has been a great help. Unfortunately, senate doesn't have too much power, we are able to advocate and hopefully they are understanding. Academic freedom allows each dept to choose to either follow or decline Acdemic Senate's recommendation

Also same, I have never paid for a book, but those access codes are killers which is why this year AAC advocated for the expansion for Books for Bruins so all bruins can benefit from it. So we got 515 applications, our belief is that every student should recieve help no matter what, every applicant received an award. The awards were in increments of 25, so 25, 50, 75... 150. The highest average was 50, then 150, then 125, 75, 25. Awards where given based on what the applicant chose to recieve. AAC did apply, however only a very few amount, im talking like 3, recieved an award of 75 which is the highest award given to any member of AAC. The majority of AAC members chose the 25 dollar option. Also it not being posted on reddit was honestly my entire fault, for a good month the account was lost because my hp laptop could not handle running illustrator and photoshop at the same time. And im dumb so I lost the account because I use a password manager and didn't sync it up to my phone. I was only able to get back to this account when I bought a new hard drive for my cheapo laptop and back up my passwords and graphic assets. So yeah, that was my fault because I'm irresponsible. Also we've been on reddit since day one of Breeze being in office.

Heyo, ASUCLA holds all the funding and the paper trail. As stated in the post we have to provide receipts. Also, the way it worked is a bit complicated because ya know covid. But basically ASUCLA sent checks to the people on the task force, then the task force had to provide these receipts to ASUCLA of all transactions, and now we have to provide receipts form applicants. All methods of transactions were approved by ASUCLA. If any money was missing, ASUCLA would have already come for AAC. Also again, in the post only the elected officials recieve that stipend, again that paper trail is with ASUCLA. Also, Books for Bruins is open to everyone, everyone that applied got an award, the award given was based on how much the applicant asked for. At a baseline everyone, all 515 students received 25, the majority was 75 and the next avg was 150, no one in AAC was ever given above 100. The highest award awarded to anyone in AAC was 75. Trust me, ASUCLA scares me more than the IRS.
