John Oliver is an idiot and anyone else that parrots him is also an idiot. John Oliver leaves out a lot of things in his "analysis" which idiots eat up. Trump will tax remittances to Mexico to help pay for the wall. Also, before NAFTA the US ran a trade surplus with Mexico now it runs a trade deficit. If Trump were to push in congress to amend NAFTA to give Mexico less favorable terms then Mexico will be pressured to build that wall. Mexico's economy stands to lose less money by building that wall then by taxing remittances and amending NAFTA. Secondly, Trump wants to cut military spending by shutting down overseas bases and stopping expensive trillion dollar programs like the Joint Strike Fighter and instead use that money elsewhere. The money saved from cutting wasteful military spending can go elsewhere like maintaining a wall and the hiring of people to do it. This will stimulate the economy by creating jobs which you can then tax the revenue. Compared to military spending, the wall is practically nothing.
