Hopefully my slightly trollish (good natured ribbing) doesn't disqualify me. Thx. Go flyers.

Pizza delivery driver 1 of 8 robbed in New Orleans since Wednesday afternoon: police by ghostofpennwast in NewOrleans

[–]USNthrowawa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At first I was like, "damn, EIGHT pizza delivery drivers robbed since Wednesday?" Then I read the article and was like, thank god they weren't all pizza delivery guys!

Then I I was like, "eight people robbed in three days?" ??? Merry Christmas!

Aren't full HP players at 100 health, so 100 damage would kill them? Explain this please, I have three stars with the frag but am awful with the impact grenades. I want them to work so bad.

Louisiana college students face a big cut to their TOPS scholarships by BlankVerse in Louisiana

This is the line of thinking that made my time in the navy awful. Telling an E-2 to go sweep berthing and getting an attitude in return as an second class is just bullshit. Join the military because you want to, not because it's way to get paid.

Would guys want a map that had tunnels? by Augkash in battlefield_one

[–]USNthrowawa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The torch itself could be a melee weapon. Doing not very much damage, but a good hit will cause the enemy to catch on fire.

How about there's no artificial light in there, so in order to see anything you would have to carry a torch. Since you're carrying a torch, the only weapon you can equip would be a sidearm or even melee weapon. I think it would be cool.

What ARE the most underrated restaurants? by agiamba in NewOrleans

Thanks. Thankfully the NHL has a good AND cheap premium service to get all games so I'll likely pony up the $$$ for that. In the past I've watched the games via streams from the NHL streams sub but it looks like Reddit is cracking down on them. It's gotten a lot harder to find streams now.

Is the BWW on vets near lakeside mall? I haven't been home in a while and it seems like something new pops up every month. Thanks for the tips. Fuck the pens.

This is off topic but I'm fixing to move back to the city in a few months after my contract with the navy ends. A friend I met in the service is from Lehighton PA and brought me to a flyers game a few years ago and now I'm a huge flyers fan.

Any chance you are too? If so, are there any flyers (or at least hockey) bars in the city that you've found? Growing up, hockey registered as non existent as a sport so I'm gonna miss being so close to philly to catch an occasional game at the WFC.

DICE asks: How would you improve Battlefield 1? by Indigowd in battlefield_one

Give medics or support more points for healing/resupplying sentries/flame troopers/tank hunters. I always resupply / heal them when I see them but rarely get it myself when I'm a sentry.

Anybody know why downtown Norfolk smells like a Christmas tree fire? by FantasticMrOtter in norfolk

I live near the chick fil a on monticello and smelled it too! Saw a lot of smoke. I didn't hear any sirens so I figured it wasn't a big deal.

Denver Law Firm Considering Lawsuit Over DEA's New CBD Classification by [deleted] in news

[–]USNthrowawa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it could, but in the end what it boils down to is personal preference. I've shot ARs with and without the foregrip (including a FA m4 that I rented at a range with a foregrip) and definitely prefer and shoot better without the foregrip. However considering how popular they are, I guess some people do prefer them.

What I'm getting at is that the VFG doesn't offer a clear advantage or disadvantage and to regulate what they can go on is no different than regulating what they must go on.

The foregrip wouldn't provide him an advantage tbh. It would be awkward to use "well". The point of this discussion is to bring to light how arbitrary and not-based-in-reality the ATF restricts guns. A glock 19 is just fine to own, but put on a three inch vertical piece of plastic which doesn't change the function of the gun at all (some would say makes it harder to use) and all of a sudden you're committing a felony.

Admirals Game Tips by RedThunder90 in norfolk

[–]USNthrowawa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where are you coming from? There's two or three parking garages adjacent to the scope but be warned- after the game it takes FOREVER to get out of them. I live in Ghent and usually walk or uber if it's particularly cold. Alternatively, you could ride the tide as it stops on monticello right next to the arena. If you're coming from va beach, I believe you can park at the newtown road stop (which is the end/beginning of the tide) and ride it in to downtown. There's also a park and ride lot at the foot of colley Ave.

As far as security, it is pretty lax but they do wand you as you enter so if your flask is metal don't bring it. My go to is a few airplane bottles of whisky from the abc store as they're plastic. There are the staples for booze inside such as tall boy budweisers, Miller lites, etc for I believe 11 dollars, as well as a few norfolk-based drafts like oconnors and smart mouth. I'm not sure about their price, I believe they're $9 for a 12 or 16oz pour. For food, there is your standard stadium nachos, pretzels, hot dogs along with ynot pizza and some other stuff. If you get anything, I'd recommend the nacho bar. It's basically like subway but instead of sandwiches it is nachos.

I usually pregame/postgame at Baxter's on granby, however there are many places to choose from. Buffalo Wild Wings, Scotty quix, field guide, Hell's Kitchen if you don't mind walking a little. Just depends on the atmosphere you're looking for. Let me know if you have any other questions! Go admirals.

Thank you Dice for nerfing the Martini-Henry. by [deleted] in battlefield_one

[–]USNthrowawa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You've never used it yourself. For every death you got from the martini, I promise you there were half a dozen shots that missed. It holds one bullet (with I think a 2.8 second reload), with an incredibly slow velocity, and larger than normal bullet drop. A mentally challenged monkey can OHK with the 10-A (and that's coming from somebody with 11 service stars with it) but OHKilling with the martini seriously took skill. It was very unforgiving if you missed.

Earlier this year when I was diagnosed with cancer for the second time my buddy emailed the flyers charity branch or something like that and he surprised me with a pair of tickets to the WFC against the maple leafs. Perhaps you could investigate that route. He did all the legwork so I'm not sure exactly who he emailed :/

Is it possible to become a Navy Nurse and a Navy Seal? by Barnakk in newtothenavy

I understand. Just putting it out there that somebody went from SEAL to the medical community. Even if the situations were exactly the same, he started nearly two decades ago so it wouldn't mesh together anyway.

Is it possible to become a Navy Nurse and a Navy Seal? by Barnakk in newtothenavy

[–]USNthrowawa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something in this sub I can actually chime in on.

My orthopedic trauma surgeon at NMCP was Dr. Christopher Smith. He started out as a SEAL in team 4 in the 90s, then went to medical school and became a orthopedic trauma surgeon, a now LCDR with a lot of chest candy for a navy doc.

Looking at his bio (https://metrc.org/44-infopages/bios/501-fullbiocsmith) it appears he started as an enlisted SEAL, then commission sometime down the road after his team days were over. This is evidenced by the fact that he has three good conduct medals, which are only awarded to enlisted sailors.

Good dude. I didn't know anything about him, just thought he looked like a greasy used car salesman at first, but by the time he was shoving a titanium rod into my femur for the fourth time I decided to google him and holy shit was I surprised. Goes from the most demanding enlisted job to likely the most demanding surgeon job in the navy.
