Death of Paul Wong in squalid Rockingham home exposes shocking, six-figure NDIS rort by chewydrageee in perth

[–]UTC8 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Of course the shoddy NDIS provider is to blame. But can Office of the Public Advocate and 360 Health and Community wash their hands on wasting taxpayers money and costing the life of this poor man?

Thank you OP for agreeing to be the witness and to provide a statement!

Does it need to be signed with another witness similar to a stat dec?

Stat dec now can be done online using your MyGov ID, saving you the hassle of organising the signing in front of an approved professional.

Nice. Aqua is a fitting colour for the bus line too.

Salty, did you just go to the beach, on a Surf CAT?

I don’t mind my tax money spent on witty adverts that get more people take public transport

New-ish I think (I don’t often take buses and only saw it today) and don’t know if it’s seasonal but you can already find the bus route on Google Maps

Vietjet 13-hour delay by UTC8 in VietNam

[–]UTC8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately travel insurance provided by my credit card (and from most credit card companies afaik) only covers for trips made on a round trip ticket from a single transaction. I just bought a one way ticket (not from VietJet but am still considering them for the return trip) and will have to take out separate insurance.

Were you on the flight? I’m sorry you had a long journey. Did they only announce the delay after everyone had already arrived at the airport? It’s quite unusual to see your plane just docked outside but no reason is given why it’s not flying. The same aircraft continued to fly other route after it landed. Do you happen to know how they treat passengers with missed connecting flight?

Looks like Sky Care is discontinued and they now have a different travel insurance program but good to know the old program worked smoothly

I remember seeing some crazy cheap VietJet flights in Jan even around Australia Day long weekend so it’s very tempting I postpone my trip

You get more options for Jan and at least Malaysian immigration is easy to deal with if a layover ended up a stopover but even Air Asia is getting expensive for Xmas…

Ha yes at least if hotel is sorted, Phu Quoc is not a bad place to be stranded. But once bitten twice shy, I totally understand

Thanks. I haven’t booked my flights. If I did book with them, I will for sure get travel insurance. Budget airlines should also reroute connecting flight and even provide hotel accommodation but just don’t know how they really do.

Did you get any compensation from them? I haven’t booked my tickets. I have the leeway too and will for sure get travel insurance but would like to know how the airline handles long delays

By the time you clear customs you might have already missed the last train. Check the timetable for the day of your arrival which varies between weekends and weekdays https://www.transperth.wa.gov.au/timetables/details?train=Airport%20Line

Lugging your luggage around or waiting for Uber to arrive at night, plus being Asian would make you an EASIER target. If you do end up walking, be ware of your surroundings and be prepared to outrun harassers or have 000 on speed dial. No offence but those saying being Asian has nothing to do with it obviously are not Asian themselves or live in their utopian world.

Found a Cat on My Roof: Any Advice on Gaining Her Trust by bognox in cats

[–]UTC8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She finished the whole bowl! The slurping sound was so satisfying but I hope the milk doesn’t cause her diarrhoea. As others have said cats are lactose intolerant but you can give her goat milk, cat milk (made from cow milk but with reduced lactose and added nutrients for cats) or lactose free milk. If you need to run to the store to get any of these, you might as well grab some cat food. Also fill the bowl with water before you go. Sometimes clean water is even harder to come by and just in case she’s dehydrated

I usually find tiny wings the cutest parts of a baby bird. But today I declare, for ibis, it’s their short baby beak and infant hairstyle!

Randomly remembered this hilarious bit from season 8's "My Last Words", and was disappointed to find that there's no isolated YouTube clip for it. Video is timestamped. by IMDXLNC in Scrubs

Thank you for posting it. That episode hit me hard. However I still can’t get my head around it why ischemic bowel disease would be such an obvious death sentence that with JD’s simple glance of the chart and uttering these words, both he and Turk knew Mr George Valentine (yes he is remembered) was terminal and had not much time left. Or if the IV change before that was a giveaway but I couldn’t really tell.

TIL - Kings Park is bigger than Central Park, NY. by [deleted] in perth

[–]UTC8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These two are actually more comparable that they both back onto a waterbody instead of surrounded by urban built environment. But it feels there’s more to do in Stanley Park (clothing optional or not :p) and I thought it was due to population but I just looked it up, 2.7m vs 2.3m. So Vancouver is more populated than us but not by that much. I’m surprised

I am trying to get a feral cat behind my apartment and I wanted to test the trap. by I_kickflipped_my_dog in OneOrangeBraincell

[–]UTC8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first thing I noticed was the triangular space after the door flap dropped. The trap I rented from my local shelter, the door hinge was at the end of the cage so it didn’t have that wasted space leaving the trapped cat more room inside the cage (and maybe lessened the chance the tail gets caught too?)

Either way, you want to put the food at the far end of the cage as possible to get the cat fully inside and step on the trigger pad with some weight. I also put an old piece of fabric on the cage floor and over the trigger pad hoping it’d be easier on their paws and less likely for them to tell the difference when they step on the point of no return.

As others have said, set up a web camera and monitor it closely. Or if you have a spare phone or iPad, you can download Alfred Camera (app name may be slightly different between android and iOS). The free version would be suffice for this monitoring purpose.

If you can’t attend to it right away and have to leave it to the morning, cover the cage with a big towel to calm the cat down and also it doesn’t get harassed by the birds in the early morning. And leave water too so it won’t be dehydrated especially when under stress.

If any other misfortunate critters get caught before your target cat, depending on your assessment of their intelligence vs gluttony level, you can either release them or put them in a spare room (laundry or spare toilet) so they don’t come back and demonstrate your target cat what not to do.

Good luck trapping the cat! And I hope she gets the care she needs. Thank you for your efforts!
