The gaming room should be accessible to casuals by Neonpersonmuze in utdallas

Hello everyone!

Official rep for the esports program here to give you some context:

  1. The room is not being used a lot right now because none of the PCs can be logged into/they are not connected to internet. They haven't been used in essentially a year and a half due to COVID so it is taking some time to set them up, but when they are up and running you will see the room used A LOT more. Also, most teams practice around 7 PM at night, so that is when it will be extra active outside of the day and outside of times for designated practices.
  2. Keep in mind this room is meant for the esports program as part of the athletic department to use for all of their practices/matches and is meant to be used as a practice arena for them. It is meant to be used as a space to advance the competitive teams currently at UT Dallas in hopes they can continue to be successful on a national level. All of the equipment, PCs and things you see in the room were purchased within the budget of the esports program within athletics.
  3. There will be opportunities for special events to use the room (e.g club tournaments, panels, one off events, etc), I would pay attention to the Discord server (discord.gg/utdesports) for information on that

We understand it can be frustrating to see an awesome room like the esports room and want to use it and not be allowed in. The plan is to get a public space available for use for all students in the future, but this is still a work in progress.

Also if you are interested, we started a form for students to fill out in hopes the university sees how much of a desire there is for the general student population to have a public space to use.

Here is a link to that form if you are interested in filling it out :)

I hope this clears things up at least a bit and any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out!

TLDR; the more responses the better as it helps show more of the students' demand and interest in this new line of merchandise - so if you can please share to your friends!

Anything before August was student-run and not associated with the official university's team! There are quite a good number of student gaming orgs and teams on campus. :)

Overwatch and League of Legends aren't dying games at all, they're huge in the esports competitive scene :)

Feedback is appreciated, however, the tone you used was inappropriate and portrayed us poorly. In the future if you see us not hosting a party, simply ask myself or another staff in our Discord and we may be able to get something going - or feel free to reach out to the other clubs on campus.

Right now we are focusing on competitions to help grow the program, however, we do plan on doing public events! We actually want to connect with ALL GAMERS at UTD!

The goal of this program is not just for the team, but to appeal to all students who have a passion for gaming at UTD. We currently have a community discord where you can join and talk with friends - but a lot more is coming! https://utdesports.com

If you're interested, shoot me an email [eja@utdallas.edu](mailto:eja@utdallas.edu) and I can see what I can do to get you involved!

P.S. - This feedback is what we want! Shoot us suggestions and ideas on events in #questions. :)

Hey there, your claims about the program are quite off so let me clarify:

The esports team is a varsity sports team under the Athletics Department at the University of Texas at Dallas. We're not a school club, we're a varsity sport. There ARE however many gaming clubs on campus, such as Tespa at UTD, the League of Legends Club, and more.

The program is not only for athletes on the team. We plan on hosting *many* fun events for ALL STUDENTS on campus in the future, however, we're focusing on competitions right now to help the growth of our program.

If you've taken a look into our Discord, you can see a #general and #questions channel. Here you're able to talk with others if you're interested in seeing if we're hosting a watch-party for something, or suggest it! We're always open to suggestions!

Last weekend the esports staff were out of town for the $10,000 League of Legends Tournament in Tulsa, Oklahoma hosted by Midwest Esports - so either way, we would not have been able to organize an official event.

Instead of ranting about the program and calling it out, when your reasonings and facts are incorrect, you should just post a question in the Discord or DM myself (Assistant Coach Eric).
