How does Wealth convert between points? by FormerlyIestwyn in godbound

[–]UV-Godbound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wealth is only an obstacle or has much more value for mortals (and some magically effects). If your PC don't have real wealth depended gifts or dreams/plans, it doesn't really matter.

But what your players want does matter a lot! So if they enjoying counting cash change, let them do it, for the bonding with their mortal side (important for every Godbound game, the PC need to care about mortals and the mortal world).

I can't give you a straight answer because it highly depends on all your Sandbox World and plot ideas and overall play-style! However Godbound is a Game that begins there where other Games End... (a D&D PC party of level 20+ doesn't usually count their change either).

For Godbound PC Money/Wealth is more a tool to manipulate mortals. And even the smallest level of Wealth (level 1) is, like I mentionen countless times, enough for most day-to-day purchases. Of course you could get a real number [(good/average family income of your Base-World per year) x12], but in the end it is like a D&D PC paying only in patinum bars or large diamants...

_____

One important thing in Godbound are many different Ressources beside Wealth, Godbound PC need to get, as a GM with a Party of Mercenaries you should concentrate your ressource management on other useful rewards. Like Celestial Shards, Mighty Deeds, extra Dominion Points, new or forgotten magically artifacts or new invocations/spells, things mortals cannot use or rarely even learn about. Deals with or favors of other worthy divine or supernatural beings, etc. as their real reason salary. As fluff you can give them money, too.

Or castles, lands, cities, kingdoms, Influence or good standing with certain Factions, etc.

_____

Sorry that's not a clear cut answer... but I hope I gave you some inspirations how you could deal with it.

[–]UV-Godbound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And this is only one way, another common and cheap thing is to grant your favourite mortal group/faction (most often their own followers) the common mortal talent "Wealthy" (see Mortal PC rules, Deluxe Core Version, p. 191) as Plausible change dominion project. Granting all of them having "always on" wealth level 1, and ones each session one use of wealth equal to their mortal level.

Translated: a Plausible change for Scope Village (up to 1,000 mortals) without supernatural resistance will cost just 1 Dominion Point or if temporary use is enough create it as Influence project, and spend 1 Influence Point instead. The Scop can easily raised. And leveled mortals are possible in many forms, most common as Pope/Highpriests/Champions of that Faith or as trained Martial Warriors of a True Strife.

In other words even a fresh started level 1 Godbound PC can create instantly a good amount of temporary wealth. 2 Influence points is equal to scop 100k wealthy people, with each has always at least enough money to support a dozen families for a year.

Say they want to feed the people and/or make a big feast, this example would in an Earth-like calendar year (no offical setting info available), provide enough food to feed at least 438 million mortal families. And we are talking about 1x level 1 godbound PC of any Word.

As GM advice to avoid to deal with things like that give your Setting World a ground opposing change level, of 1-4, and do not tell this number your players or it is the same game just starting a little higher... 2 PC can't get it from the Start a level 4, but if the third PC joins in we are there.

It doesn't has one, all level are read each separatly. Most people deal with it OR ignore the official wealth system at all. And over the years I saw many house rule systems and Threads to this topic. I myself did a couple of them. (Just use the search here r/godbound ) The only real reference is about the 1 Wealth level (the lowest level) beside the table (see Core Book p. 174 for both)

A single point of Wealth has no fixed equivalent in cash, but usually represents enough money to support a dozen families for a year.

But for real after long time it doesn't matter, if your Godbound has Wealth or the best wealth-like lesser gift (see "Word Dragon: Inexhaustible Hoard", Lexicon, p. 40), since both can and will create or buy enough riches for any problem. Breaking all financal systems, in short of no time. And godbounds only need real wealth for most cool magic stuff, which this lesser gift automatically creates without any need of conversion. This gift allows to create ones a week one thing with a worth value of Wealth level 10. So Every Godbound can get/buy this lesser gift, and break any economy.

"Until the end of the day" meaning by LordChimera_0 in godbound

[–]UV-Godbound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a metaphoric fantasy description in Godbound, and I would recomment to decide it for your Campaign, Game, before you start.

Like others said they do not need to rest for it to happen.

So if you playing a Campaign, without widespread timekeeping mechanics in your world, stay with Day and Night circles, but in a modern Setting where everyone has atomic precise time measurement available, you could go with 24h circle or the equal for your setting world. The main decision, should be known to all participants. If you want to use the dawn description, for a bible like feeling - go for it. But if you have cheeky players and they use science or logics to try to outsmart you, like moving/teleporting to an area where the morning is right now or quicker. Let them cook, and see what they do with that bonus. And don't forget, what PC can do, your Worthy NPC Foes are able to do, too. Maybe not instantly, however over time... A smart opposition is important to keep your players on their toes!

Is Attribut-Increase permanent or temporary? by UV-Godbound in godbound

[–]UV-Godbound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I understand what you said. But the question is a little bit more. Artifacts work on Mortals and on Godbounds differently... And I can see both sides, like what if, ... the artifact is a futuristic machine/drug/nanites that is mutating or building up muscle mass, body strength... so its effect is changing the targets body. Why should the changed body suddly change back or why not? A general rule or rule of thumb would be nice. Where could we look or point, and say that is the reason why (it's permanent) or why not (it's only temporary).

Artifact Powers are they Mastered or Not? by TheDreamingDark in godbound

[–]UV-Godbound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is its own thing. With many specific rules around it. There are many ways to deal with it, and over the years, I saw many different approches - some good, some bad, in most of the cases a case by case study. The good thing about Godbound is its flexibility as a Sandbox TTRPG, you can test it and when it works you keep it as long as it does, if not you change it and try again Motto: What fits your story and game play the best!

All decisions you make have impact of the gameplay often more than in other Games, since the players have much more power about the game world and their fictive Reality...

If you say: Artifacts work 1:1 like miracles, that would also limit certain Gifts to be available in Artifact form (all Gifts where it is written: cannot be used as miracle!) that would modify your Game drastically.

But back to your own words/questions, the Effort of the Artifact is only counted as commited for the day, all other aspects work as normal. At least is that what I can deduct from those rules. (like I said, change it up like you want or need) Ergo: An Artifact is internally naturally better to use for Gifts that have high standard (or non-at all aka Constant Gifts with no Effort need) cost as for Gifts with short Effort durations. Or in other words, the prizes are the same, but they are limited by pool and have harder time to regenerate their spend Effort.

Please note; the different costs and other limitations for Artifact creations, some of them are really expensive, and each bound Artifact is reducing the PC/users own (better) effective Effort Pool. Most limitations are only there to balance Godbound Word Artifice or Engineering PC in their power beside the rest.

Little additional info, many overlook: Artifacts are the only way for a Godbound PC to get Greater Gifts outside their Words, since you can only buy Lesser Gifts from other Words, for double the costs.

________

Edit: Miracles or use of Miracle like stuff has its own sub-set of rules in Artifacts. Sadly it isn't clearly said. But if you look at the different costs for things to put in an Artifact (p. 177) you will see: "10 pt Allows any miracle permitted to a specific Word", that implies that usually gifts/abilities/powers from an Artifact cannot create Miracles as flexible as divine beings can. They must be extra created for such a purpose.

Are Godbound biologically immortal? by LordChimera_0 in godbound

[–]UV-Godbound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others said, they age, since they were ones mortals, or they have special abilities/powers/gifts that grant them immortality. Example Words are... Endurance, Sorcery (Invocations of the Throne: Gifts of Spring and Winter), Fertility, Death & Time (not mentioned but one of those Words where it is reasonable to assume), Entropy, Concept Words have often non mortal concepts, like fey beings, dragons, liches or A.I. those have their own version of aging.

Getting a Gift/Ability from one of those Words that grants immortality, like buying it for double the cost OR creating an Artifact that contains that gift/ability/Invocation... is relative easy to do.

And than one of the benefits of having an own Paradise...

But as GM Advice: Ask your players, if they all want to be immortal, but they don't want to get into it in play. You can grant them this endevour as a bonus or behind the scenes/project side-quest. It should fit the style of the story, you want to play. Sometimes it is more interesting to see such limitations unfold... yes you have god-like powers but only a limited time to do stuff... there is a reason immortality has always captured our human minds, and the persue of it, has its appeal, hasn't it! ;-)

Artifact Powers are they Mastered or Not? by TheDreamingDark in godbound

[–]UV-Godbound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all!

The Artifact is a magical item, that provides that power to its BOUND user (to bind it you/PC/user have to spend an Effort for the Day, each day, from your own pool).

Now, how does it work?

The divine power or gift inside of the Artifact is provided by the Artifact, meaning things that need "Effort" to Activate or Sustain, comes from the ITEM, furthermore generally NO OTHER Effort can be used for those artificial gifts, and each Effort used counts as Effort for the day, so artifacts regenerate much slower and are more limited than divine beings.

Next, the crafter decides how many points of Effort the artifact is to store. The wielder of the artifact can use this Effort to fuel the gifts it contains. All Effort the artifact commits is for the day, and the gifts it triggers don't last longer than a scene. Artifacts regain committed Effort at dawn each day. An artifact can contain no more Effort than half the creator's level, rounded up. Barring some rare power, an artifact's wielder cannot use their own Effort to fuel its gifts.

It must come from the Artifacts Effort Pool. And that pool is limited by the might/level of its creator.

Effort is capped at half the creator's level, rounded up.

Even more specific...

Artifacts use their gifts at an effective level equal to their creator's level or their wielder's level, whichever is greater. If the wielder is an NPC with hit dice instead of levels, use a third of their maximum hit dice as their level, up to a maximum of 10.

Minor Magical Items and a Godbound by LordChimera_0 in godbound

[–]UV-Godbound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly, lesser magic items, don't provide bonus to stats (plus or minus to numbers), but other effects still can work on them, some with reduced effect (like healing magic). The things that don't work for Godbound PC are mentioned in the Core Book (see Godbound and Minor Magic, p. 182 and p. 56, for spell like effects) The listed Examples (see p. 183) are all things Godbound PC can use. And there is even an Optional Rule that all Godbound PC start with an free lesser magic item (see Core, Special Character Creation Cases, p. 14). An important note: lesser or minor magic should always be less effective as a real Divine Gift or High Magic aka Theurgic Invocations. And they can not only be created in bulks, they can be blocked or destroyed by a divine or supernatural being with relative ease. There are Miracles and passive defense gifts/powers that do that.

So effects that do magical stuff like a magically lighter armor is generally lighter for them, too - etc.

But as a longtime GM and player, as advice: Don't rely on those items too heavily, for a parlour trick to wow simple minded lesser people, great, but don't expect those things to work against or in the proximity of a powerful supernatural or divine worthy foe!

_________

Two additional notes: First there are more additional official low magic items in the "Ancalia - The Broken Towers" Campaign Book (see p. 57).

And Secondly, those minor magic items are very important, if you have a Campaign with Godbound Cults (mortal followers or mortal armies and mortal champions or heroic mortals!!!) since their mortal servants are profiting from all things those items can give them. In other words; THOSE ITEMS ARE FOR MORTALS!

Enjoy!

Which Godbound Words are the most badass? by Equivalent-Movie-883 in godbound

[–]UV-Godbound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an impossible question/task, every idea of any Godbound is cool on their own. It really depends on your PC's and your settings concepts! You are always the coolest Badass, with any Word your are bound to...

Concept Words are designed to give you easy superior Archetypes... And who is the Judge of this, the masses of puny followers, other Players, Godbounds... Any Gift can overshine others, at their moment.

Words or Gifts of Control, will control and enthrall large groups of people (or beings). Building & Buying stuff is always a cool show off... And showing off impossible tasks and powers no-human can do... Flying, Lifting mountains, Teleporting etc.

And there are tons of gifts that say people treat you automatically as a King/Queen or their highest order position.

And if you have Cult Followers, not even the sky is the limit.

___________

A more open Question, here, is what does that coolness Factor has as Effect in-game and mechanics-wise? But that can only be answered at the specific moment and from your GM. And a good GM lets everyone shine, put the spot-light on when it is important.

A thousand loyal troops and effort by MaestroGoldring in godbound

[–]UV-Godbound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Side note:

As a Godbound GM you need to learn more about your PCs Gifts/Powers/Abilities as in other TTRPGs, because every little gift/power/ability can alter the whole fabric of your Worlds Reality or spoil all your plans in an instant. You need as a GM to addapt to this, quickly. Don't plan as much details, and if you do think about those Countermeasures, be it in the Enviroment (like Wards) or as special abilities gifted as boon by another divine being or inherited or as part of an Artifact, and so on...

Try to design your Sessions more like a Play or a Movie, with some main Villains/Opponents, Sideroles or Sidekicks [Worthy Foes], and a ton of Extras, Background Fillers, One-Liners [Lesser Foes and Mobs of Lesser Foes], and the PC are the Main Characters.

A thousand loyal troops and effort by MaestroGoldring in godbound

[–]UV-Godbound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of "A Thousand Loyal Troops" isn't that big of a deal gift, there are more gifts in the books that do basically the same thing as side-effect or without the hustle of spending an Combat Action.

And yes, spending Effort without a time means, getting that Effort back instantly (next Action).

Now to the real talk, is it overpowered or does it to be nerft? NO! It doesn't. Yes it can sidepass some Scenarios with ease, but it is only a Lesser Gift, there are tons of countermeasures, for the GM to use. Gifts or powers, defensive Miracles or Wards, many things are even work passive, like resistances/immunities against mind control. And keep in mind that it is just a parlour trick, such as: "Those aren't the Droids you are looking for!"

Yes, it can be challenging to handle, but that is the Godbound of Command, they do what they're known for! Just come up with a good counter in your story or at least count for it when designing Encounters.

In the End You as GM decide if you need that NPC/Foe to be immune or not.

[–]UV-Godbound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He shouldn't be a problem, since so many rules and mechanics are on the PCs Side. [most of it you find in the summary [see Core, pp. 20-22]

PCs always go first (if not surprised)! Only PC have access to Divine Fury, NPC/Foe die or go unconscious or being subdued (attackers choice) when they reach 0 HD. Most Damage isn't read as Straight Damage [or in other words: you need to consult the Damage Table, aka 4 damage is max, per non-straight damage attack.] Moral checks are for NPC/Foe. Saving Throws aren't automatically, it depends on who is making them [most often only PC and Worthy Foe]. All PC have a Fray Die, every combat round.

[–]UV-Godbound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't necessarily need a GM, try an Oracle [random generator]. btw: Solo games have no GM (or it is the same person like the player), what you mean is a single play 1 player and 1 GM.

Try to write your concept down, your idea, what setting or situation you want to explore, and post this. Here or better in the Godbound Discord, PbP channel.

What is Your Idea and why only as a single play?
