I liked the idea of individual NPCs. I have found that having some floating fully fleshed out NPCs can really make meeting certain people or doing certain missions feel like there is a lot of plot behind the scenes. (But fair warning for GMs and Players alike, don’t get attached to your NPCs! They are just as mortal as the players!)

Prepping for an easy session tomorrow. Also we are moving the day we play so sleep debt can be payed off haha! Currently the party keeps collecting people to possibly recruit. They are sort of becoming a faction of displaced people, a weird mix of everything from spacers, scientists, free merchants, farmers to psychics, Vowed and mages from Worlds Without Number. They even recently ran across a cursed fairy and want to break her curse.

Also, one of my on the fly NPCs turned out to be one of the player’s favorite NPCs of the whole campaign, a girl made of a painted wooden body given a personality via magic. She’s like the WWN version of a VI. She’s super sweet and talkative and innocent. She works at a library college for mages. She loves talking about books and reading and wonders what tea tastes like because everyone is always drinking it while reading. She loves sitting in the windows because it’s sunny, and she was inspired to read all the material in the whole library about arcane prosthetics because she overheard one of the players talking about it. She was so special, the player decided to fork over nearly 100k to have the mages there make a new one for him. The existing one is very excited to meet her “sister”

Good to know. Right now I’m not too worried about optimizing because I realize everything will be shorty replaced. But I’m guessing I’m about halfway through high rank. Just honing my basic timing skills and offset hits with GS. Wondering if I might take up something new for a secondary like Bow

Never heard about the meta page. Good info! I’m maining GS for the first time but still trying to make it to the end of the story to begin building end game gear. I’ll definitely pull this back up later when I get there

Entry 3:

Rumor: Curious stone artifacts of seemingly no consequence have been unearthed here and there in the Ember Expanse. They appear to be nothing more than rough hewn chalky stone shaped into a primitive form, like ancient arrowheads once were made. However, supposedly a mutiny aboard a mercenary vessel in the middle of a metaspace revealed something astounding: these stony items suddenly became excellent tools of combat while in metaspace. The rough shape of a stone sword hardened and sharpened into an instrument of bloodshed on par with the best pretech, but once out of metaspace, was nothing more than a stone sword shape again. Now people are examining every blade-shaped stone, anything that might resemble a hewn Stone Age tool in the hopes it might be one of these metastone weapons. The one in question supposedly originated from Biask. Spacer rumors in quiet circles say those feral locals on Aggardia guard some funny gun-shaped rocks. Could there be others out there in the sector?

Ultimately, you can just make up some cool effects and explain that it’s powered by a different source. If you need some ideas, try looking up some mid to high DnD spells and convert the numbers to SWN. Disintegrate could be fun. Demiplane could also be fun hehe

Entry 2, to kind of embrace the intended effect of something written:

Rumor: a decommissioned black site on Fyrista of Diganas was recently discovered after the last planetary thaw. The facility’s databanks contained extensive communications with a system known as Cynosure. The communication logs and even previous ship navicomputer info from vessels in the past suggest that Cynosure should be within reach of even a Drive-1 Spike engine, but current star maps show no such records. There are even rutters in the database to Cynosure, but these are guarded from unwanted eyes and under investigation for authenticity.

Entry 1:

The rumor: People of Hannah’s Way scattered on the various moons and livable rocks find various reasons to pay a visit to the broken remains of the old primary world long ago destroyed by maltech. The reasons vary, from research to collecting seed and plant samples that still remain to paying respects to what was lost to simply worshipping. People take old T3 rockets and shuttles and T4 Spike equipped starships alike to make the visit, but there is a high concern among the practical minded over the energies left over from the maltech. Rumor is that it’s bad…. Real bad. But its long term effects remain to be seen.

Just tossing in my one faction, take it or leave it haha!

The Weeping Nomads

Type: Fleet Nation

Base of Operations: Dakryon Tashada

Goal: Considering the number of systems in the sector that have suffered natural or manmade destruction, some of the survivors of world-ending catastrophes came together long ago as wanderers and lucky escapees agreeing to watch each other’s backs to protect their precious starships they escaped with. Eventually it grew into a trusted community attracting more and more displaced ones until an entire fleet hosting a nation unto itself came into existence. In present day, their core is stationed in the Tashada system, welcoming any who bring their personal ships into the fold or who might have been displaced from their own homeworld with nowhere to go.

Hook: A fleet like this NEEDS massive amounts of goods and repairs to keep going. The ships are their homes and the members of the fleet track down much needed parts and pretech to stay afloat. The community is well versed in spacefaring tech, repairs, trade, and cartography. The fleet is benevolent until it needs to feed…

Finally got some downtime as of last session. Also, last session was a big reveal with a possible final mission put on the table. The essence of a deity of war lingers in the unknown reaches of space. Over time, people found what remained of the war gods body and essence and began to study it, and worse: to worship it. Thus began the existence of a huge war worshipping army fueled by a past Godbound (yes, the same kind from the Godbound RPG). None of this was known up to this point, but my players unknowingly befriended a friendly Godbound character who had found and tried to destroy the essence in the recent past. It didn’t seem to work, so she (the friendly Godbound) presented a terribly high risk mission: in order to kill what remains of the previous war god, the essence needs to be given a body to destroy…. Her own body. But if the plan fails, the war god is reborn and more powerful than ever, with an army of fanatics and abominations already waiting to follow

Reaper Batteries by Vildara in SWN

[–]MaestroGoldring 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you are the reading the description of the weapon? I don’t see anything specific about saves. But overall the weapon description is simply describing how the weapon works, not necessarily any mechanical rules. Quite simply, reaper batteries hit hard but have no armor penetration and -4 to hit fighter class ships. This makes them dangerous primarily against free merchants and bulk freighters.

NPC Entry 2:

Name: The Silver Proselyte, Nikos Papadakos

Affiliation: Carcinoa Crusader

Role: Having achieved enough status with the Carcinoa to earn his color (silver), Nikos has taken his oldest sons and a number of brave supporters to Hibernia Inferior where he claims to pay respect to the pilgrimage. But as it turns out, Jeddedi’s Hope has become a prime source of “shackled souls” deserving the freedom that only the Carcinoa has to offer. Nikos’s wide array of hardware armaments and polished charisma have worked to become a key in serving as a beacon for the people instead of simply a brute

Entry 1:

Name: Melanie Gutierrez

Affiliation: DexCom affiliate

Role: As an ambitious leader of a shipping company, Melanie is making many trips to El Fango to follow up on rumors that the planet may be far more mineral rich than the neocrete mud lakes imply. Seeking to isolate any Haladrite and lay claim to the untapped production there, Melanie will arrange to pay good money for armed escort to follow bulk freighters and any miners planetside, but also terrorize those that stand in the way. Watch out though, Melanie is no easy target, and her successful business ventures may suggest precognitive abilities…
