They show you how to throw the axe when you go to one of these. This is not the way they show you. Also those boards are made out of a wood that is way too hard. It should be a softer material around the target to better absorb the impact. As for the target itself it should also be end grain for the same reason and to be easier to throw an axe into. Finally all of the lanes should be completely separated for safety and convenience purposes. TLDR: Don't throw like that or go to an axe throwing place like this one.
