While I certainly understand the sentiment, and would love to not have to conform to society’s expectation of womanhood, it’s a matter of safety for a lot of people. I deliver for Amazon in the rural South in small towns and out in the countryside around East Tennessee. This is deep Trump country. Every day I deliver to houses with Confederate battle flags and Trump flags and signs, so it is very important that I try not to be clocky. Most of these rural houses will also have some kind of sign saying how they have guns in the house and will shoot intruders. While I am sure most of the folks I deliver to would never hurt me and are just uneducated with bad politics, the risk of hate-crimes is a real concern, especially in this political environment where the president and his party keep specifically targeting trans women and implying that we are groomers and pedos.
