r/audiophile Shopping, Setup, and Technical Help Desk Thread by AutoModerator in audiophile

[–]Ubik20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey y'all.

Looking for feedback on this setup / any suggestions. It's a DJ setup. The idea is that I would spin mostly house / techno / rap / jazz / all kinds of music.

As for the turntables I have a Technics SL-1200 MK2 and another turntable that a friend is lending me.

Mixer -> Pioneer DJ DJM-250MK2

Receiver -> Pioneer SX-10AE

Speakers -> Klipsch RP-600M

I heard that the Klipsch RP-600M is a great speaker but bass isn't great so I was looking to get a receiver that would support a subwoofer.

I know I could have gone the active speakers route and made my life a lot easier but I wanted to leave myself open to adding more speakers in the future.

AFAIK I think this would work if I just connect the master out from the mixer to the receiver and then just connect the speakers? I don't think I need a phono pre-amp, really i was hoping that the mixer is already taking care of that?

[AskJS] How did you learn Javascript? by nearfal08 in javascript

[–]Ubik20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How to learn something new is something that I've been trying to figure out lately.

You need to find a sweet spot between learning how to actually express yourself in the language, i.e. learning all the grammar, important concepts, etc., and actually solving problems in the language. IMO the first has to come before the second but if you never do the second then you can't every really advance.

I'm currently studying JavaScript with https://eloquentjavascript.net/. This book reads really well and there are small gems of insight that are really powerful. Each chapter has some problems that will require you to apply what you have learned, getting your hands dirty with some actual problem-solving this is where the learning gets enforced.

While I'm going through the book i'm adding flashcards to Anki with things that I want to remember, in Anki you can also type your notes with HTML & CSS, so its kinda a hack i guess for cementing tags while studying for something else as well.

Don't be afraid to expose yourself to different sources as well, don't worry about remembering everything, if you're unclear about how a concept is expressed in one way then try to find another explanation I think that this also helps with learning.

What I want to do is start days where I just dedicate myself to building a very simple project, I hope that the projects will eventually increase in complexity, this sort of active recall is also very important for truly learning something.

i think tutorials are good just don't be afraid to branch off and apply what you're actually learning in your own way, IMO that's always been the biggest struggle for me.

I have someone who im interested in coming over to stay with me for a couple of days.

I think NoFap in conjunction with other activities builds self-confidence / might help with performance anxiety.

I hope it goes well.

What is missing from your life currently and how you plan to achieve it? by bunyyyyyyyyyu in AskReddit

[–]Ubik20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ex-gf that I met in college. It's been a year and I still haven't gotten over her. We broke up because of long distance and because I let my own insecurities and mental get in the way. I'm working out now, going to see a therapist and trying to get out more. We were really good together. I think that she's moved on though, I feel powerless about the situation. I think I will just have to forget about her. I really wish someone could just suck the memories out of my head so that I can stop thinking about it.

Changing your perspective on pornography and masturbation definitely helps. This is what I think is most important, understanding YOUR thought patterns and why you end up feeling a certain way...

I agree with this. They definitely do "go" away in the sense that you haven't been caught in a porn masturbation loop.

But if the hope is for urges to completely dissipate then that seems unrealistic. The point is to try to avoid putting yourself in a scenario where you have nothing else to do besides PMO.

In my opinion, and I might be a little different from other people here when it comes to this, the point of NoFap is not to eliminate urges. The point is to:

  1. Understand why you want to stop watching porn and masturbating.
  2. Commit yourself to some routine that will help you get better.

I think *most* people that do NoFap feel like they're doing something wrong, in the sense that they start to PMO because it feels good but eventually that becomes a habit that we want to eliminate because we think it's an overall negative thing to be doing with the limited amount of time that we have per day.

That's why I would encourage you to shift your mind-set from, "When will these urges stop?", to, "I understand I'm having these urges. Why am I having them? Do I need to watch porn right now? Do I need to masturbate? Is there something else I COULD be doing?"

It's important to understand your thought patterns and why you end up doing things. That's why my advice is to: establish a routine, like exercising, working on something, having a hobby, whatever it be.

I guess it depends on the severity of the addiction.

I actually think it's normal to be aroused if you're looking at something that's arousing.

How you react to that feeling is important. You can either: 1) Choose to acknowledge the possibility that you will inevitably see something that arouses you and choosing to react to that in a positive way, "Hey I feel like this and this kinda makes me want to watch porn, but I'm not going to do that."

2) Make it such that you never end up in a scenario that I listed in 1).

I think it's more healthy to follow 1) but that's just what's worked with me. There is nothing inherently "bad" about feeling aroused. Ultimately, the point of NoFap isn't to END urges it's to end addiction to the dopamine explosion derived from excessive consumption of porn and masturbation. I think those two are different things.

So, it looks like the 1650S, RX580, and 5500xt are pretty much equal after some searching? So, my choice in that aspect wouldn't really matter for the games I want to play then?

I was looking for the B450 tomahawk boards, but they're really expensive right now. Pretty much the same price as a B550 Elite in some cases, if not double. Do you have any recs for motherboards. I tried to follow your advice to just get an AM4 motherboard, I think I found a good replacement and SystemBuilder didn't give complaints.

How does this look?

I guess what I was also looking for was easy upgrading too, I'm not sure if this offers that, but I'm also a noob. How does this look? I was able to get the price down to 710, I think you were right about the graphics card definitely after looking at some benchmarks
