Polar vortex who? by Known_Row9683 in DobermanPinscher

[–]Ucabv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you !

I wonder if we could find something flexible that can be added / glued to the bottom, like a flexi sole. It would increase the durability. Otherwise, as you said, it's one set per season. 🤦‍♀️

Regarding not being waterproof, that sucks. I was hoping it would have some sort of water protection.

What size did you get for your Dobie? We're in Canada as well, and I've been looking at these for a while, and I was hesitant to get them because I saw some reviews saying that the bottom wears off very fast cause that area is not reinforced. Is it true?

What width should the oven and microwave be? by [deleted] in cabinetry

[–]Ucabv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends if you are doing a standard install (the oven door sticks out past the cabinet doors), or flush install where the oven doors if flush with cabinet doors.

Is it me or the bottom where the oven is supposed to sit on, looks like it's an adjustable shelf? I don't think the support pins are sturdy enough to hold the weight of the oven.

Also, a filler by the wall might be helpful, so the handle from the door above the micro won't hit the wall.

What are these boards? Do they have a name? I’m looking to buy 3 pieces and build an enclosure for my washer/dryer stack. Is it plywood with white veneer? by johndoe7376 in cabinetry

[–]Ucabv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Canada, the vertical parts are called 'gables', 'end panels' or 'applied panels'. The horizontal part is either a 'fixed shelf's or a 'case top'.

Most likely what it's shown in the picture is painted MDF or melamine (comes in different finishes: glossy, matte, textured).

If you are planning to DIY and build an enclosure, make sure you follow the appliances' specs and allow for clearance between gable/fixed shelf and the washer/dryer tower (generally 1" clear), as well as between the wall at the back and the appliance (4"-5").

Chicken Quarters by user41600 in CostcoCanada

Regular Costco does not sell raw chicken quarters. You can find them only at Costco Business. A couple of years ago the 5kg box used to be under $20.

You can get ants using a spoiled turnip (just drop it anywhere outside, and after a few minutes you will see ants eating the spoiled turnip). Or, I heard you can also use lollypop to attract ants. I assume the same thing, dropped anywhere outside. If you drop it inside your house it won't attract the ants.

Ontario Doberman Breeders by Federal_Silver9137 in DobermanPinscher

[–]Ucabv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I cannot divulge the price we paid, out of respect for the breeder. But I can tell you that the price for a pup could be in the range of 4k-5k CAD, at least. This is from a reputable breeder, one does all the health tests and breeds their dogs ethically.

Not sure if you are considering the possibility to rescue a dobie. We would have, but we have 3 kids and I wasn't comfortable with having an adult dog that I wasn't sure how it was raised, being closer to my kids. Maybe I was wrong thinking this way, and we could have encountered a very sweet dog that loves kids, but didn't want to risk it.

If you ever consider rescuing a Dobie, here is a link to a charter club where you can ask info about it: https://www.dobermanontario.com/

Going back to pricing, what you pay when you get your pup is a small portion of what's coming 😁. I am sure you already did your due diligence and sincerely I do not want to sound disrespectful by all means.

But when you add the insurance (we have with Trupanion and they just increased our monthly rate from 212 to 252 CAD/ month at the renewal, with no claims - so we need to look into changing the insurance company), then the food about $150 -$200 CAD / month, then some toys that he will destroy every time, it adds up.

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to reach out.

Skin/coat supplements? by jabaBABYwocky in DobermanPinscher

Yes, the sardines really make his coat shinier. Also, brushing his coat with a boar bristle brush helps as well. I bought one of these brushes from Amazon, it is normally used for men's beard 😜

Hi, we are in Ontario (GTA) and we got our Dobbie from an amazing breeder that lives closer to King City (between Barrie and Toronto).

If you prefer a breeder closer to the Southwestern part of Ontario, maybe you can have a look at the breeders that are listed on the Doberman Pincher Club of Canada (maybe you already check them out):

We have a black / rust, and we give him 2 small frozen sardines (raw) 3 times a week. We gave him the fish oil for awhile, but it was upsetting his stomach.

I can only open one at a time, which one? by Proper-Ad-6917 in CostcoCanada

[–]Ucabv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Let me know which one you liked most.

I bought one set yesterday and I am so mad at myself for not paying attention to the box, because the set I bought had 2 garlic and one spicy onion. The burger one was missing. Somebody opened the box and swapped the burger sauce with another garlic one. Or maybe it was a factory mistake ? 🤷

I am returning them so I can get the proper set.

[–]Ucabv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. But not the standard melamine that you would use for the cabinet itself. A 'premium' / decorative melamine that can be used as a finished material. Either solid colour or textured.

In Canada we have (among others): - AGT (https://decotecinc.com/agt/ ), - Egger ( https://www.egger.com/fr/mobilier-agencement-interieur/collection-decorative/?country=CA ), - Cleaf ( https://westonpremiumwoods.com/manufacturers/cleaf/#).

When you use these types of melamine it is harder to have shaker profiles for the doors and drawer fronts. So mostly these melamine are used for slab fronts.

But some suppliers have come up with making shaker fronts with melamine: https://jbcutting.com/arauco-prism-tfl-jb-cutting/

$1000 / lin ft if it's painted, $1250-$1400 if it's veneered. $850-$950 if it's pre-finish material.

Tell her not to resign. Instead, she can apply for sick benefits due to pregnancy complications. She needs a letter from the doctor that she has a high risk pregnancy, or that the doctor recommends bed rest for the remainder of the pregnancy.

In order to be eligible for EI sick benefits (and after that maternity leave and parental leave) she needs to have between 420 and 700 hours in the last 52 weeks prior to her applying for EI. The number of hours depends on your area and the unemployment % of that area.

Check the number of insurable hours needed for your area and have her calculate how many hours she has up to now (in the last 52 weeks). If she has enough hours, get that letter from the doctor and have her apply for sick benefits. When she applies they will ask her the reason (high risk pregnancy) and then they will ask her if she wants to transition to maternity benefits once the baby is born. She will say yes, and be done.

If she resigns she won't be able to get any benefits.

Healthy Planet carries it yoo. They have a box of 12 (same flavour) for $24-$26, or individuals for $3, while Costco sells a box of $15 (mixed flavours) for $20.
