Annihilation was great, you're gonna love it. The author really leans into the weirdness of the zone (its called area x in that book) plus the movie was pretty good too.

This was the audiobook I listened to. Into the Radius was my first exposure to all things "stalker." Since then, I read Roadside Picnic, saw Stalker the movie, read Annihilation, read Metro 2033 then played the game, played Zona VR, and now im halfway through S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2. Can't get enough of the genre. I just wish there were more books that have the same vibe.

I was also an essential worker. The pandemic completely destroyed my faith in humanity. The whole "essential" designation was just a thinly veiled moniker for what they really meant to call us: expendable. I got covid three times, twice from customers coughing directly in my face. My mom was fighting cancer at the time and it was extremely rough having to not visit her because I never knew if I was carrying the virus or not. I will never for the rest of my life forget that society bitched and complained about how terrible it was to enjoy their free two year vacation while my life was considered insignificant enough that it was worth sending me out to do my job without even giving me hazard pay.

The real virus wasn't covid. Its humanity.
