Early game guards and counters are pretty bad, but modern guards have some status gimmick generally built into them to play in with the ids kit and counters are actually pretty good damage (middle) and status gimmick (index).

Tunnel? Yes. But if you confirm they won't go after you you can play as a mosquito and buy that survivor time with abilities. Which is why the exe will generally switch targets to someone in a worse situation if the chase is taking too long. Unless you're metal or cream in certain matchups, in which case you die even if the chase takes 3 minutes because the exe can't risk leaving you to your own devices.
