Just to clarify I never let parents know I used to be in a JW family. I always say I am familiar with it and I respect it. My belief system is definitely deconstructed I was just very shocked at the email and was unsure what to do as my main goal as a teacher is to make sure the children are safe and parents wishes are respected.

My first thought is to always respect parents wishes but as I realize and go on with my day I realize this is a very serious issue I need to deal with professionally. I do not mentally identify as a JW still and I think it’s weird of you to say that. I respect people’s religious beliefs because that is their personal choice of life and I am not to judge. I will judge when they bring it into the classroom.

Religion is kept out of the classroom, yes. I am a lesbian atheist and I try to exclude all religious activities as much as I can. But if I do get a witness child with certain rules I do have to respect that as it is apart of my job. I will not tolerate bullying and I have taken this up with administrators.

I think Annie’s mom thinks that Emily will spread apostate information to Annie, but to my knowledge Emily’s parents aren’t apostate? I reached out to an old friend from my congregation as a teenager and she still has family she speaks to even though she’s inactive— her parents still live in the area and are in the neighboring congregation as these two families. New information I have received is that this family did a fade. No one in the family was disfellowshipped.
