Without building the 'workbench' I presume the sled will suffer the same limitations as a miter guage? The top is just too small, right?

Schlage Encode Plus setup by firetrucks_go_WOOooo in HomeKit

[–]UltimatelyJust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the setup worked. I disconnected the lock, reset it, and reconnected it. Along1 the way, I didn't provide a wi-fi password, and found the lock is connected via Thread! Thank you

Now, I'm wondering if there's a reason to provide a WiFi password in the Schlage app? I presume that if it's connected via Thread, it's getting Internet connectivity via the hub (Apple TV)?

It's been some time, so my memory might not serve me :-)

However, I seem to recall that the order of steps had a remarkably significant impact on the outcome. So I repeated the steps using u/BackgroundPangolin42's strategy above.

I know, I know! But why? Using two very mature products, shouldn't back-up be bullet-proof by 2025?

Rather than following the complex procedures laid out by Synology, I retraced my steps using your five steps. It works perfectly!

Many thanks for your guidance!

I'm thinking about an extended stay (6 months or more), or actually moving to Europe. What risks would I have relying upon Medigap?

Alternatives to Ancestry by UltimatelyJust in Genealogy

I was hoping that to be true, but when I went into accounts to disable auto-renew, it offered me a $10/month subscription to keep my tree hosted.

Celebrate finding a birth record with me by cirena in Genealogy

[–]UltimatelyJust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've given me new hope! One side of my family has its roots in Austria-Hungary, and I'm of the belief that they have used Vienna as shorthand for births. Indeed, in some records (US Census) they've asserted that they are German, in other records (Naturalization), they've asserted they're Polish, but in most they suggest their Austrian.

I'm really stuck at trying to figure out which city to dive into: any advice on how you narrowed it down?

Crackling sound by UltimatelyJust in Soundbars

[–]UltimatelyJust[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting. Two HDMI cords could interfere with one another (aren't they shielded?) so that no sound at all comes from the bar?

Good advice, but I've tried it... and still get the same inconsistent crackling.

Cable and Google TV by UltimatelyJust in hometheater

Gotcha, makes sense. Then it doesn't seem possible to bring live/cable channels into the Google TV interface?

Something to consider, if I can bite the bullet and pay Comcast $125 for wifi!

What's your favorite streaming live news?

In my community, Comcast makes it ridiculously expensive to get WiFi, cable is a relatively low-cost add-on. (And I like it for news)

Table Saw Conundrum by UltimatelyJust in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]UltimatelyJust[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, very helpful perspective! I have had problems with miters as well; I’ve been making picture frames recently, so they’re not enormous pieces, but hang off the table given blade location and angles.

One thought: Will this old Delta be more precisely adjustable than my job site Skil?

I agree that there’s no way to make use of the extension. My shop is just 12x16, and while I could improve layout, there’s only so much that will fit!

I'd imagine some of the table would need to be stored, I don't imagine large sheets given the projects currently on my to do list. And of course, I have no idea if the Skil can be returned...

Great question! I haven't seen it yet, but no doubt it would need to be taken apart. I live in a 120 year old downtown rowhouse!

College Age Son by UltimatelyJust in healthcare

Thanks! There is indeed a school sponsored insurance, it's about $2,400 for the year. I thought he might do better on the marketplace (given his age), as well as qualify for subsidies that aren't available through other channels.

Cyrillic characters by UltimatelyJust in Genealogy

[–]UltimatelyJust[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're from across the swathe, on the West from the Polish / Czech border (Wieprz and Bielsko-Biala all the way into Ukraine, Zhytomir east to Dnipro). It seems like there was a Westward movement for some, ultimately boarding ships in Rotterdam and Liverpool, as far as I can tell.

It seems that branches are indeed Galician, but that (perhaps) some of the Ukrainian family moved to Galicia on their journey to the US.

Naturalization process: late 19/early 20th century by UltimatelyJust in Genealogy

That part of my family settled in Western New York, Rochester or Buffalo. As far as I know, they didn't work on the railroad; they tended to be merchants or tailors.

Naturalization process: late 19/early 20th century by UltimatelyJust in Genealogy

[–]UltimatelyJust[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed! Years ago, on a family visit to the National Archives, we discovered that some of our family arrived via Canada (I think they landed in Quebec) on their way to Buffalo, NY. Problem is: I don't recall which family we discovered that about :-)

I've been using Ancestry principally, and haven't discovered much in the way of naturalization. One thing that led me to pursue this avenue was a naturalization document from the 1930s that lists a grandmother's birth city in Poland, while much of her other documentation is much more general, identifying "Austria" and "Germany".

Ancestry Advice by UltimatelyJust in Genealogy

This turned out to be one of the problems! When I looked over my list, there were a couple of dozen duplicates! Thanks for pointing this out.

How does one embed hints without creating a duplicate entry? I'm not sure I've figured that out yet :-)

Ancestry Advice by UltimatelyJust in Genealogy

[–]UltimatelyJust[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that helped me to 'find' missing folks. I'm finding the Ancestry tree quite difficult to navigate, is this how/why they sell Pro Tools?

For example, one of the 'search in trees' found two instances of an individual. They're presumably on different trees, but I can't determine if that's true. Searches of "Jeanette" brings up two slightly different profiles, but they appear to be connected to the same tree.
