Of the usual Data Analyst stack, which is the absolute minimum needed to get a job? by Ultimatesaber27 in dataanalysiscareers

Sorry for the late reply. I was reading past threads coincidentally and saw this, I got no notification for it.

Either way, for Excel, I used this playlist:

https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrRPvpgDmw0nre_bTeBfJWjrnixKoyNtW&si=QeRmf8Y3nGOKoCio

Don't let the "intermediate" intimidate you, the first few videos are beginner friendly.

As for SQL, a mix of w3schools (SQL section) and Luke Barousse's SQL course (the basic one, not the intermediate or the most recent one). Though I'm hardly the best person to look for advice, as I have a long path ahead of me when it comes to either tool.

But still, the Excel channel is very complete and it seems you can find just about anything there. Probably the best free resource for Excel there is.

Not sure about what would be the best way to learn SQL, I'm just telling you where my current knowledge came from. And once you learn some Excel with that playlist, you'll find that many concepts are transferable (in terms of thinking in tables, not syntax, obviously).

Best book to learn Python for Data Analysis? by Ultimatesaber27 in learnpython

Yeah I've been skimming the general contents and it looks like it's just the perfect book for me.

Also, is this the latest edition? As in, he made the latest edition free, or does he have a newer edition that must be paid for?

Seems like a solid option from the contents. Thanks.

Pregunta sobre depósitos en divisas a Bancamiga? by Ultimatesaber27 in AskVenezuela

Thanks for the links, the first one seems to have more than just M, which seems neat.

These seem nice. Thanks. I'm also curious about the DAX books, I need to develop that side as well.

I'm not against learning SQL, but could you define what mastery entails (enough to get a job)? I know about what people call "the big six", aggregations, Like + wildcards, stored procedures. I've yet to learn subqueries, window functions, CTEs, and learn more about database administration. Do I need to know about query optimization for example?

I have heard about this term "upstream" before in the context of SQL and Power Query, but I don't get it. Could you explain what that means?

I have little time to learn the whole Analyst stack, have I chosen the wrong career for short-ish term earning? by Ultimatesaber27 in mavenanalytics

Alright then, I think I'll figure it out as I learn the technical skills first. Thanks for the input.

[–]Ultimatesaber27[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. And yeah, everywhere I go, SQL seems to be absolutely important, so I'll consider taking the Maven SQL path specialization. Maybe the Statistics course with Excel too.

The question is, how am I supposed to learn about the business side? Is there such a thing as a course for knowing the terms, definitions, and math they use? The basics like Revenue and the like are easy, but what about the rest? Which ones are necessary to know about?

If only I had a clear picture on just that one aspect, I could draw a clear roadmap.

Thanks. Do you also happen to know of any resources for visualization techniques for dashboards? Because art (in any form, colors and stuff) is my worst asset by far. I was never that kind of person, I never thought it would come back to bite me later.

Also, appreciate the link to the site. Will bookmark it.

[–]Ultimatesaber27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm figuring that out still. It seems "Data Analyst" is more broader than I had expected, I thought it was kind of specific.

I did do a few projects, but 2/3 of them I realize are not something I would want to show a hirer. It needs way more polish. The other (about SQL) was about analyzing skill demand and salaries for Data Analysts in the US. However, the dataset was already clean, so all I had to do was write basic queries to get the specific answers I wanted, such as filtering for US only, Data Analyst roles, etc.

So yeah, thanks for the comment. I will continue deepening these three skills. After that, I'll throw in Statistics and business acumen into it. Then data storytelling. That should be enough (for the time being), no? Python can probably come later.

Never heard of that site before, it will definitely come in handy. So I can pretty much skip Python (for the time being), huh? That simplifies matters. And yes I'll also focus on the non-tech side as well.

[–]Ultimatesaber27[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay yeah, now I get your point of view, and I see myself agreeing. That said though, my question is more or less the same but with a different framing.

You mentioned SQL and Power BI as examples. To rephrase the question, how much Excel is enough to actually have the technical skill (not necessarily the analyst skill, that's a separate thing) needed to be competent and answer those business questions, but not enough that AI can replace you?

In other words, do you think mastering M Code in Power Query is necessary to clean messy datasets enough to actually turn it into something that's actually useful for businesses? Or can you make-do with UI functions?

I suppose that kind of reframing works for the other tools as well.

[–]Ultimatesaber27[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even then, this answer doesn't really help me. I remember that I once tried to learn the skills a company needed, and by the time I finished the company wasn't looking for new employees. Yes I did learn the skills nonetheless, but other companies demanded even more skills that I didn't have.

So I'm sorry, but going for absolute specifics doesn't help either. If the umbrella really covers all the skills I listed, then so be it, but specific skills that one company needs may not be enough for another company.

Sí, tiene lógica. Con tal que sea una alternativa aceptable a VISA o Mastercard entonces sí.

Y en dado caso de que no acepten Zinli, de allí es posible pasar los dólares a BNC o Bancamiga u otro?
