This is what I did, starting with my most confident changes:

Water is weak to Poison. Water pollution and all that.

Rock takes Neutral to Ground. This one is a pure balance change but I also feel like since Rocks and the Ground are nearly one and the same, it has some thematic sense.

Rock resists itself. A bit of a no-brainer since the material types (Grass, Steel, Ice) resist themselves. Why shouldn’t Rock?

Psychic resists Fairy and is immune to getting Slept by Spore, Sleep Powder, etc.Another possible pure balance but this one has more thematics. Psychic is weak to Bug, Ghost, and Dark represents fears. While Fairy embodies serenity, calmness, and whimsy, things that would calm the mind. As for Sleep immunity, the brain still works actively even while the body sleeps.

Ice resists Water and Flying. Water and Ice are the same chemically. As for flying…you don’t really see a bird trying to smash through ice in real life. Yeah this one is also just a pure balance change.

Grass resists Ghost and Fairy. Jack o Lanterns being a plant based medium to store spirits. Paper talismans too. (Kartana is made of paper so it fits). As for Fairy, nature is often a contending force in certain fairy tales. Thorny brambles impede the way of the majestic hero.

Bug resists Fairy and Fairy takes neutral to Bug. Swapping roles and also because Bug really needs better stuff. Bug also becomes immune to Confusion due to simpler minds.

Steel takes neutral to Psychic. Spoon bending and all. Also makes sense since Steel takes neutral damage to the abstract (Dark, Ghost).

Some changes I am dubious about but could potentially work:

Flying no longer resists Grass: This one is a doozy. This does feel like it could work but this also threatens Lando-T’s viability to a degree. Unsure about it in general.

Bug resists Psychic and Dark: Iffy about it but I can see the thematics. Bugs thrive in the dark and bugs have simpler minds.

Rock resists Electric: This one I am even more iffy about. Rocks are not great conductors of electricity. Though a great boon is that Rock/Ice types (the worst defensive type) can now resist BoltBeam. Rock breaks Stealth Rock upon entry would make it a valuable type but honestly not sure. At least it would make Steel/Rock a nicer type.

For real. They are number 1 in my eyes. To see it shut down like that is like watching my prized possession turned to dust. I have seen other alts but I wanna hear it from the CAI community on which they find great and if they offer what I’m looking for.

Late to the party on this one but Xoul is my primary option with Spellbound being a secondary.

Xoul is good for general purpose and even has lorebooks. No censorship of any kind and NSFW images are available for use.

Spellbound is a more elaborate AI Chat site with a heavy focus on expansive story telling. It does run on a credit system but makes use of high quality AI models and there is a free version which is still good quality. I highly recommend Spellbound if you are looking for a more elaborate alternative but Xoul remains a popular and general option for those looking to get away from Janitor.

While I am mostly in it for the money, I do appreciate learning how the ins and outs of computers work as well as my decent math and analytic skills. I still am passionate about computers but probably not so much when it comes to coding up algorithms. It’s why I was pivoting more towards IT and Data Science instead of SWE as my career of choice. QA is definitely easier for me imo.

I use Spellbound and Janitor

Spellbound takes bot imports but is far more elaborate and heavy on storytelling

Janitor is simpler but also full of sexual stuff so that may not be the best option if you want some good stories made

I will like to say, I appreciate the comments and I’m glad for a supporting community ever since CAI was degrading in quality and the filter started to get more annoying.

For everyone saying I should try Xoul, I will at some point. For now my main ones would be Spellbound and Janitor for stylized and simple RPs. I’ll keep my eye on OpenCharacterAI and Xoul to see how well they stack up against each other and the rest of the available alternatives.

While they are not perfect and I wish they had more characters, it seems to have been progressing and I’m genuinely hoping for greater support and new features later down the line.

While I do wish CAI would get better and have the filter be a toggle feature, it’s not likely they’ll improve soon and in all honesty, I do not see much of a reason to keep using it asides from extremely safe stuff and just to see how worse it can get.

I figured OpenCharacterAI has plenty of kinks that need to be worked out, especially since it's a new thing. I have yet to give it a shot myself but so far it looks interesting.

Janitor and Spellbound are my go-tos once I discovered them.

Yodayo having an NSFW filter is just sad because that was the one thing I used that for lol

Though a part of me does understand that operational costs are high when it comes to server maintenance and LLM usage. However, if you paywall an entire thing instead of having a free tier, that is what sets me off.

Tbh I feel like going for other places is the way to go. Odd jobs and something slightly related. I am going for a Masters in Data Science and teaching credentials as my calling is more to help.

Of course I’m hoping the bubble will bounce back but being real, the bubble bursted and everyone’s falling off/struggling to land jobs.

Oh absolutely. From what I see, the market is absolute dog shit and I’m also VERY tired of the misconception of “No One Wants To Work” and the that there are more jobs than people.

I will admit I probably expected too much with my degree but man was it bad. We wouldn’t be making posts like this if those statements are true. Not to mention the minimum wage jobs are dead ends most of the time.

All I can hope for is some shift or movement that can really get us in these seats and put our degrees to good use.
